Susan E. Pettypool1

F, #4856, b. 20 December 1834, d. circa 1896
Last Edited21 Sep 2022
Birth*Susan was born on 20 December 1834 in Kentucky, d/o Buckner Pettypool & Matilda Faulkner. FSTrees (entry for Susan Elizabeth Pettypool (1834-1929), 9JWT-MVJ) claims her middle name was Elizabeth w/o citation. Her surname variously Pettypool, P'Pool, Pool, and Poole. FSTrees lists 15 siblings using all four of these spellings.2
Marriage*She married Lycurgus Gilliham Cravens Sr., son of Elijah Clay Cravens and Esther Wilmuth Palmer, on 29 January 1859 in Kentucky. His obit says he left five grown children and that his wife had died several years previously.3
Census1860Susan appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, as 24 yo Susan Cravens in the household of her parents-in-law Elijah Clay Cravens and Esther Wilmuth Palmer; as 63 yo farmer Elijah C & 59 yo Esther Cravens.4
Census1870*Susan and Lycurgus appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Cadiz, Trigg Co., Kentucky, enumerated 3 September 1870, as 45 yo wheelwright Lycurgus G. & 35 yo Susan Cravens. Their children Elijah C., Buckner P. "Buck", Jabus B. "Jabe", Mary Frances, James and John R. were listed as living with them.5
Census1880Susan and Lycurgus appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Bainbridge, Christian Co., Kentucky, enumerated 19 June 1880, as 53 yo Lycurgus G. & 44 yo Susan E. Cravens. Their children Elijah C., Buckner P. "Buck", Jabus B. "Jabe", Mary Frances, Wilmeth Esther "Willie", Lycurgus and Susan M. were listed as living with them. Lycurgus's brother William and his family live next door. Their mother Esther (Palmer) Cravens lives with William's family.6
Death*Susan died circa 1896. FSTrees (entry for Susan Elizabeth Pettypool 1834-1929, 9JWT-MVJ) claims ca. 1929. That contradicts Lycurgus's obit which says she died 'several years' before him.7
