Thomas Dunkerson1,2
M, #2764, b. 28 September 1790, d. 18 October 1856
Birth* | Thomas was born on 28 September 1790 in Virginia, s/o Thomas Dunkerson & Lucretia Moore.2,1 |
Marr-License* | Thomas applied for a marriage license to wed Nancy Thompson at Christian Co., Kentucky, on 16 May 1812. A weird transcription shows James Thompson as the bride. Indexed however as James or Nancy. Go figure.3,2 |
Marriage* | He married Sarah Catherine Palmer, daughter of Drury Lewis Palmer Sr. and Mary Faulkner, on 2 November 1824 in Christian Co., Kentucky. Bostick claims 2 October.4,5,1 |
Census1830* | Thomas appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 101001-11201 as 30-39 yo Thomas Dunkerson. His 2nd wife Catherine is living with him as well as known daughters Arabellia & Emily. Four other children under 15 yo, perhaps issue of his 1st marriage to Nancy Thompson, are also in the household. None of their names are currently known.6 |
Census1850* | Thomas and Sarah appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 27, Harrison Co., Missouri, enumerated 18 November 1850, as 59 yo farmer Thomas & 53 yo Catherine Dunkinson. Their children George M., Elizabeth, Margaret, John Benton, Sarah and James S. were listed as living with them.7 |
Death* | Thomas died on 18 October 1856 in Harrison Co., Missouri, at age 66.2,8 |
Burial* | He was buried at Allen Cemetery in Eagleville, Harrison Co., Missouri.2 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 2 July 2019 re FSTrees. FSTrees (entry for Thomas L Dunkerson (1790-1856), ID no. L8MJ-ZKB) lists three children of Thomas and Sarah for whom I find no real evidence: namely, Thomas L (1833-deceased, ID no. L5D9-1YW), Edward M (1834-deceased, ID no. L5DS-WC8), and Inah Ayneyar (1840-deceased, ID no. L5DS-3W2) Dunkerson. None of them show up with purported parents in the 1850 census. I've been unable to find any of the family in the 1840 either through indexing or by searching Daviess County (Harrison formed from Daviess in 1845) page by page. Marriage and census records do exist for Thomas & wife Mary Jane Williams but, again, nothing linking them to Thomas & Sarah except the name 'Thomas L'. Inah Ayneyar might really be Ina Anna. |

Edward Palmer1,2
M, #2766, b. 14 March 1792, d. circa September 1828
Birth* | Edward, son of James Palmer and Martha Hester, was born on 14 March 1792 in Mecklenburg Co., Virginia. Son Robert's entry in History of Kern County says his father was a native Kentuckian and died there ca. 1929. The birth may be right but other evidence suggests he went to Illinois and died there. I'm sticking with Trees' claim of Mecklenburg Co., VA for now.4,1,2 |
Marriage* | He married Rebecca Patton on 1 November 1812 in Christian Co., Kentucky. Bostick writes, "When this son, Edward became of age, he married Rebecca...in 1812"; Palmer's date is "abt. 1785". FamilySearch's Partner Trees: MyTrees.com claims another son Alfred (1819-1893) but I find no compelling evidence.5,1,6,7 |
Death* | Edward died circa September 1828 in Galena, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois. Son John's obit, quoted in his Find A Grave memorial, says in part, in May 1828, he came to Galena with his father, who died in the fall of the same year. Palmer claims 1828, FamilySearch 1827, Morgan 1829 in KY.8,7,4 |

Rebecca Patton1,2
F, #2767, b. 22 September 1786, d. 1836
Birth* | Rebecca was born on 22 September 1786 in Maryland, d/o Matthew Patton Jr. and Rebecca Lnu. She ws christened 18 Oct 1786 in Baltimore.3,1,4,5,2 |
Marriage* | She married Edward Palmer, son of James Palmer and Martha Hester, on 1 November 1812 in Christian Co., Kentucky. Bostick writes, "When this son, Edward became of age, he married Rebecca...in 1812"; Palmer's date is "abt. 1785". Census1830 | Rebecca appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Morgan Co., Illinois, with a household listed as 011-1100001, as 40-49 yo Rebecca Palmer. Her children Alfred (could be David or even John), Robert and Hester Ann were probably the children listed as living with her. There's an unknown female 5-9 in the home.7 |
Move* | Rebecca moved her residence from Kentucky to Jacksonville, Morgan Co., Illinois circa 1834, 'with her family'.5 |
Death* | Rebecca died in 1836.2 |

SSgt. Glenn Eugene Vandegrift1,2,3
M, #2775, b. 17 December 1913, d. 21 April 1975
Birth* | Glenn, son of Guy Palmer Vandegrift and Emma Frances Shirck, was born on 17 December 1913 in Bartlesville, Washington Co., Oklahoma. Census confirms ca. year & state.1,2 |
Census1920 | Glenn appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Chanute, Neosho Co., Kansas in the household of his parents, Guy Palmer Vandegrift and Emma Frances Shirck, as 6 yo son Glenn Vandegrift.6 |
Census1930 | Glenn appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Chanute, Neosho Co., Kansas in the household of his parents, Guy Palmer Vandegrift and Emma Frances Shirck, as 16 yo son Glenn E Vandergrif.7 |
Marriage* | He married Mary Edna Mann, daughter of Friend Ambrose Mann and Arka Delphia Higginbotham, before 1940, date based on son Jack being born in December 1939. I have no primary evidence that Glenn was Jack's father, only the pedigree chart supplied by Jack's wife Joan Gill.8 |
Census1940 | Glenn appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Chanute, Neosho Co., Kansas in the household of his parents, Guy Palmer Vandegrift and Emma Frances Shirck, as 25 yo son Glenn Vandegrift.9 |
Milit-Service* | SSgt. Glenn Eugene Vandegrift served with the US Army during World War II from 1 July 1941 to 6 December 1945.10,11 |
Marriage* | His second marriage was to Lola F. Lnu before 1948, date based on birthyear of 3 yo son Earl Dean in the 1950 census.12 |
Census1950* | Glenn and Lola appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Chanute, Neosho Co., Kansas, enumerated 31 March 1950, as 37 yo potato chip manufacturer driver Glenn E & 30 yo Lola F Vandegriff (Vandegrift).12 |
Death* | Glenn died on 21 April 1975 at age 61.11,13 |
Burial* | He was buried on 24 April 1975 at Kechi Township Cemetery in Park City, Sedgwick Co., Kansas.11,13 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 2 November 2022 re pedigree chart. Joan Gill of Chanute, Kansas, wrote my father Peter Vandegrift in 1998 and provided a pedigree chart of husband Jack Earl Gill's family. It shows Jack as the son of Glenn E Vandegrift and Mary Edna Mann. The Vandegrift line on this pedigree is correct. Find A Grave has memorials for Jack, his mother Mary Edna Leroy and father Glenn Vandegrift. Mary Edna and Jack are linked, but neither Glenn and Jack, nor Glenn and Mary Edna. Newspapers.com has only two hits for Jack E Gill in Kansas between 1945 and 1999. One is his funeral announcement which mentions surviving wife Joan. The other is about a $15 fine for hunting squirrels out of season. No hits at Newspapers for Mary Edna with surnames Mann, Gill or Leroy in the date range 1945 to 2022. My best guess as to how these people are related is as follows: Glenn and Mary Edna married sometime before their son Jack Earl was born in 1939. Glenn and Mary Edna divorced ca. 1939 based on the fact Glenn and Mary Edna are separated in the 1940 census. In 1940 Glenn is with his parents, Mary Edna is with her mother Arka Mann and son Jack whose surname is now Mann. Glenn m2 Lola F Lnu between 1940 and ca. 1948. Mary Edna m2 Fnu Gill after her divorce with Glenn. Her son Jack Earl took the new surname Gill. Mary Enda later m2 Fnu Leroy, which is her surname on her Find A Grave memorial.2,14,8 |

George Blair1,2
M, #2776, b. 1773, d. 27 June 1848
Birth* | George, son of William Blair and Sarah Sutter, was born in 1773 in York Co., Pennsylvania Colony, New England.6 |
Marriage* | He married Martha Fulton on 18 April 1795 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. VAGenWeb and Knorr say same date 1796, as bond date. VA Marriages provides date used and claims marriage.7,8,1 |
Marr-Bond | George provided surety for the marriage bond of Capt. James Blair and Mary "Polly" Dickinson on 1 April 1796 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.9,10 |
Census1810 | George appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee, with a household listed as 2101-0001 as 26-44 yo George Blair.11 |
Census1820 | George appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee, with a household listed as 020111-0002 as 45+ yo George Blair. Martha and their four sons are enumerated with him. Martha & William are probably one bracket too young. The second female 26-44 yo is probably Ralph's wife Asenath.12 |
Census1830 | George appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee, with a household listed as 00000101-000000011-021-01 as 50-59 yo James Blare. My only guess for the female in the 50-59 slot is George's sister Elizabeth if her husband Alexander Shaw has already died. No one else currently known fits the bill. Sons James & Ralph are enumerated nearby.13 |
Residence* | George and Ralph resided in Dist. 3, Rutherford Co., Tennessee, in 1837, as George, Ralph A, John F, Wm L G, and James W Blair. Each has his own entry in the tax list. George has 281 acres, Ralph 101 acres, John 83 acres, William & James own no acreage but were still taxed.14 |
Census1840* | George appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee, with a household listed as 000000001-000000001-001-00011 as 60-69 yo Geo Blair. Martha is probably one bracket too young.15 |
Death* | George died on 27 June 1848 in Rutherford Co., Tennessee, in his 75th year.16 |
Burial* | He was buried at Blair Cemetery in Smyrna, Rutherford Co., Tennessee.16 |

Rachel Witcher1,2
F, #2779, b. 1788, d. 1849
Birth* | Rachel, daughter of William Witcher Jr. and Mary "Mollie" Dalton, was born in 1788 in Halifax (now Pittsylvania) Co., Virginia. Find A Grave & Williams claim 1798 but this date seems very unlikely given her marriage to Noton Ramsey in 1808 and daughter Elizabeth's birth in 1803. In the 1840 census she's in the 50-60 bracket, suggesting a birthyear in the 1780-1790 range. I'm guessing an original transcription error listing 1788 as 1798 which has been perpetuated. I'm going with 1788 for now. How to resolve the 1808 marriage with two children allegedly born before that year is unclear. The 1810 census has her in the 26-44 bracket suggesting birthyear of 1784 or earlier.4,1 |
Marriage* | She married Noten Ramsey on 18 January 1808 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.5,6,7 |
Census1810 | Rachel is probably the female age 26 to 44 listed in the household of her husband, Noten Ramsey, in the 1810 Federal Census of Franklin Co., Virginia.8 |
Census1820 | Rachel is probably the female age 26 to 44 listed in the household of her husband, Noten Ramsey, in the 1820 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.9 |
Census1830 | Rachel is probably the female age 40 to 49 listed in the household of her husband, Noten Ramsey, in the 1830 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.10 |
Census1840 | Rachel is probably the female age 50 to 59 listed in the household of her husband, Noten Ramsey, in the 1840 Federal Census of Regiment 107, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.11 |
Death* | Rachel died in 1849 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. There's a second Find A Grave entry for Rachel with dates 1798-1854. This makes little sense given husband Noten's 1850 census entry.12 |
Burial* | She was buried at Ramsey Cemetery, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.4 |

Noten Ramsey1,2,3
M, #2782, b. circa 1770, d. 19 January 1852
Birth* | Noten was born circa 1770 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Colony, New England. Son of William Ramsey per Scatterlings, Thomas Francis & Frances C. Jefferson Ramsey per Find A Grave. There is another Find A Grave entry for Norton T. Ramsey (1780-1852) claiming same parents as this record. Mustain & Gregory also claim 1770. Ca. 1880 works better with the 1820 census.1,2 |
Marriage* | He married Rachel Witcher, daughter of William Witcher Jr. and Mary "Mollie" Dalton, on 18 January 1808 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.4,5,1 |
Census1810 | Noten appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Franklin Co., Virginia, with a household listed as 0001-2001 as 26-44 yo Nodin Ramsey.6 |
Census1820 | Noten appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, with a household listed as 10011-4201 as 26-44 yo Noton Ramsey. Several issues with this enumeration but there are only two Ramseys in Pittsylvania County and one is Noton so chances for this not being the correct family are slim. See Birth writeup for son George. There are two persons not accounted for: male 16-26 and female <10.7 |
Census1830 | Noten appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, with a household listed as 010100001-0021001 as 60-69 yo Norton Ramsey. A near perfect fit. Noten is one bracket too old. George is one bracket too young if the 1807 birthyear given by Find A Grave is correct.8 |
Census1840 | Noten appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Regiment 107, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, with a household listed as 0001000001-00001001 as 70-79 yo Noton Ramsay.9 |
Census1850* | Noten appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Northern Dist., Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, enumerated 16 November 1850, as 70 yo farmer Noton Ramsay. His daughter Frances C. was listed as living with him, along with Frances's children 11 yo John, 4 yo Emily and 2 yo Uratus Chocklate. Next door above is Noton's son William, his wife Mary, and their three children.10 |
Death* | Noten died on 19 January 1852 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.11 |

M, #2783, b. 1799, d. 6 March 1856
Birth* | John was born in 1799 in Bedford Co., Virginia. Rootsweb's WRIGHT-L Archive, no longer extant, claimed John was the s/o Thomas and Sarah Elizabeth Pullen Wright. FSTrees (entry for John P. Wright (1799-1856), ID no. LH1P-5PH) says Thomas S & Hannah Wright.2,1 |
Marriage* | He married Mary "Polly" Witcher, daughter of William Witcher Jr. and Mary "Mollie" Dalton, on 20 December 1819 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Issue per FSTrees (entry for John P. Wright (1799-1856), ID no. LH1P-5PH) were Mary Catherine, William, Sarah Jane and Lewis Adams Wright, all of whom have FSTrees entries.3,1 |
Death* | John died on 6 March 1856 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.2 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 4 July 2022 re another wife? WRIGHT-L Archives claimed Polly Jones, m. 08 Jul 1841, but I find no other evidence yet. If true, his m1 Polly Witcher likely died before census date in 1840 as we find a John P. Wright in Pittyslvania County without female anywhere close to a wife's age. Polly Jones (TMG 8277) is in the dB as an unattached person. |
