I've been unable to find supporting evidence. Date listed here is from the 1900 census in which they'd been married 39 years.2

Census1880	Anna and Amos appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Neoga, Cumberland Co., Illinois, enumerated 19 June 1880, as 39 yo carpenter Amos & 33 yo Anna Downey. Their children Stephen Bruce, George, Asachasach Louisa, Minnie Alice and James were listed as living with them.5
Census1900	Anna and Amos appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Kingman, Kingman Co., Kansas, enumerated 7 June 1900, as 59 yo Amos & 53 yo Annie L Downey. They're enumerated as married 39 years with 4 born and 4 living. No children in the household.2

Marriage*	She married Abner Matthews Bartlett, son of Abner Bartlett and Obedience Mix, on 4 January 1857 in Morrow Co., Ohio. Cross Road does note it as "A.M's" second marriage.9,10,8,1
Census1860	Eliza and Abner appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Mt. Gilead, Morrow Co., Ohio, enumerated 13 June 1860, as 44 yo farmer A M & 31 yo Eliza A Bartlett. Their children Robert Franklin "Frank", John Oscar, Juliaette E., Druzilla Althea, Sarah Marsella, Albert Warner, Nathan Herbert, Charles Wilbur and Frederick Willis were listed as living with them.11

Estate-Will*	Daniel Witcher left a will dated 5 January 1815 at Smith Co., Tennessee, naming as heirs his wife Susanna, son Daniel A, six daughters (Nancy, Martha, Tabitha, Sally Ramsey, Sabra Jenkins and Aley B Witcher. Other named persons were grandson Alphonse, son Lacy Witcher and son James R Witcher. Census1870	Ebenezer and Matilda appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Franklin Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio, enumerated 28 June 1870, as 45 yo farmer Ebenezer & 38 yo Matilda Goorley. Living with them were 6 yo Ellen Blaney & 21 yo George W Painter. Matilda and George were 1st cousins. Matilda's sister Emily and her family live next door.6

Birth*	James, son of Richard B. Downey and Phebe Mulford, was born between 1809 and 1810 in Ohio. Middle name almost certainly Mulford after his mother, but I find no primary evidence in support. Sheffield claims he was born 10 Jun 1810 in Hamilton, Butler, Ohio without citation.2
Census1820	James is probably the male age 10 to 15 listed in the household of his father, Richard B. Downey, in the 1820 Federal Census of Randolph, Dearborn (now Ohio) Co., Indiana.3
Marriage*	He married Eliza Phelps on 3 March 1831 in Dearborn Co., Indiana. The license date was 21 February. No mention of either's parents in the marriage record.1
Census1840*	James M. appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Dearborn Co., Indiana, with a household listed as 10001-1101 as 20-29 yo James Downey. This is a good fit except for the unknown female 5-9 yo.4
Census1850*	James and Eliza appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Shelby Twp., Ripley Co., Indiana, enumerated 12 September 1850, as 40 yo James D & 27 yo Eliza Downey. Their children Mahala, Omer, Elizabeth, Philip, Smith, Lucinda J. and Permelia Ann were listed as living with them.2
Census1860	James and Eliza appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Otter Creek Twp., Ripley Co., Indiana, enumerated 25 July 1860, as 50 yo James & 37 yo Eliza Downey. Their children Elizabeth, Philip, Smith, Lucinda J., Permelia Ann, Maletus, Seluta and Lucinia A. were listed as living with them.5
Census1870	James and Eliza appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Otter Creek Twp., Ripley Co., Indiana, enumerated 27 July 1870, as 60 yo James M & 47 yo Louisa Downey. Their children Maletus, Matilda, Olive and Sally were listed as living with them.6
Death*	James died before 5 June 1880. This date based on his wife Eliza being listed as a widow in her 1880 census enumeration of this date|.7

ResearchNote*	Research Note of 9 March 2020 re FSTrees claims. FSTrees (entry for James Mulford Downey (1810-1884), ID no. KNZX-J86) is way off base about James and Eliza and their family. The divergence with reality begins with the 1870 census. The family had been in Indiana for three generation and is well documented in the censuses and other records up through 1860. James & Eliza's children for the most part remained in Indiana. In the 1870 census some researchers have made the assumption that the James & Ann Downey in Loudoun County, Virginia are this couple. None of the children shown in Indiana in the 1850 & 1860 censuses are listed in the VA 1870. James & Ann both show the wrong birthstate in 1870. Ann's age is off by 10 years. Put simply, the Virginia couple is not the same James & Eliza that were in Indiana in '50 and '60.      There's one other weird record which seems like it should be about this family but which I believe is not. It's a marriage record in Indiana Marriages 1811-2007 for Clyde M Downey & Clara Adams. Clyde's parents are James Downey and Eliza Phelps. But Clyde was born in 1882, at least two years after his father's death, and in Littlerock, Arkansas. I can only conclude the parents are a different couple with same names as our people.

ResearchNote*	Research Note of 1 July 2022 re FSTrees claims. FSTrees (entry for Rachel Downey, ID no. L2WB-PFR) claims without source citation that Rachel m2 William Bear (1842-1916). I don't buy it.      Rachel's m1 was to Samuel Bear in 1837. Sam didn't die until 1846 yet the two children purported to have been William's and Rachel's were both born before 1846. If the dates are correct it means Rachel divorced Sam within four years of their marriage. I think it more likely that Samuel & William the same person.      Rachel & Iuni Hunt, her 3rd or 4th husband, have two records at IN Marriages 1811-2011. One of them shows that marriage at Rachel's third, not fourth.
Marriage*	Her second marriage was to Henry A. Sedam on 18 May 1848 at Ohio Co., Indiana. Another daughter is alleged by FSTrees, Isabel Sedam (1859-1859). There is a Find A Grave memorial for person of this name and dates (no. 47957740), buried at New Liberty Cemetery, Switzerland County. FSTrees also claims she's the d/o Henry Nicholas Sedam and Rachel Barkis, so go figure. Henry's m1 of 1838 was to Elizabeth Gibson by whom he had at least one daughter, Florinda.6,7,8

Estate-Will	Rachel was named an executrix in the will of Henry A. Sedam, her husband, dated 10 December 1882 at Ripley Co., Indiana, receiving all his property, real and personal.12
Marriage*	Her third marriage was to Imri Hunt on 1 October 1885 at Eaglesville, Boone Co., Indiana. One of their IN Marriages records lists this as Iuni's first and Rachel's third marriage. Why is she listed as Rachel Downey rather than Rachel Sedam?.13,14
Death*	Rachel died before 5 June 1900. Her last husband Imri is listed as a widower in the 1900 censuswhen he is living with daughter Mary Ellen Hubbart and her family.15
ResearchNote*	Research Note of 31 July 2020 re Find A Grave. Imri has two Find A Grave memorials. In both his given name is Imri. Same lifespan in both.      In memorial no. 136418265 he's buried at Hammack Cemetery, Hamilton Co., Indiana. It has some bio info of unknown quality, but has no headstone photo. It lists his wives as Rachel Ann Jessup, Rachel Downey & Elvira Kendall. This record lists his children as Albert Morton & Calvin Hunt, both w/ their own memorials. Albert's record lists siblings Calvin, Rebecca Ann (m. William Riley Hubbart), and Mary Ellen (m. Thomas Austin Hubbart).      In memorial no. 27472963 he is buried at Spencer Cemetery, Hamilton Co., Indiana. It does have headstone photo, lists his only wife as Rachel Ann Jessup Hunt. Children mentioned, none showing Find A Grave memorials, are Calvin, Albert, Louis, John, Rebecca, Minerva, Eli, Cyrus & Mary Hunt. Calvin & Albert died in the Civil War.      Combining the two memorials, which are for the most part in agreement, we can surmise that Imri's children were Calvin, Albert, Louis, John, Rebecca Ann, Minerva, Eli, Cyrus & Mary Ellen Hunt. Clearly none are Rachel's children as she was 64 yo when they were married.      The two cemeteries have different lat/long values so are not the same place. It's hard to argue with the Spencer Cemetery memorial since it has headstone photos.16,17

Marriage*	He married Sarah Hulda Phelps on 12 August 1845 in Ohio Co., Indiana.2,3,4,5
Census1850*	He and Sarah Hulda Phelps appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Cotton Twp., Switzerland Co., Indiana, enumerated 5 October 1850, as 24 yo farmer Jeremiah & 26 yo Sarah H Downey. Their children Asa William Jessup, Cpl. Daniel J. Carpenter, Andrew Clark Downey and Alfred Ross Downey were listed as living with them. Amos Downey & family live directly above. James & Mary Seborn Downey live two doors above.6
Move	Jeremiah and Sarah moved their residence from Switzerland County to Ohio County in 1850. It is possible there's another explanation for the two 1850 census enumerations. Cotton Twp. & Ohio Co. share a border. I've so far been unable to determine where Div. 2 was located. If the border shifted during the interval between enumerations, or if the border was poorly defined, or if one of the enumerators didn't know where he was it could explain this.6,7

Asa & Daniel are Sarah's sons from prior marriages.8
Residence*	Jeremiah resided in Cotton Twp., Switzerland Co., Indiana, in June 1863. His age of 37 works well with the 10 Sep 1825 I'm showing. Also in Cotton Twp. are 39 yo Amos S Downey and 42 yo Hugh B Downey. Hugh's entry notes he served with the 54th Indiana.9
Census1870	Jeremiah and Sarah appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Sugar Branch, Switzerland Co., Indiana, enumerated 31 August 1870, as 44 yo farmer Jerry & 46 yo Sarah H. Downey. Their daughter Sarah Hulda was listed as living with them. Son Clark & his wife Mary are next door.10

There is an 18 yo Stephen in the household in 1870, listed after the other children, relationship not noted. I suspect he's a nephew or cousin rather than a son.1,6,2

Two others in the household were 19 yo Amanda Louis, relationship and occupation not shown, and a farm laborer.8

Downey & 3 children, 61 yo Sarah Downey & 4 children, 24 yo William H. & Leeta Downey, and two Ake households, with wives Eliza A. & Eliza J.10
Death*	William died in 1893. To me the death year reads 1898, not 1893.11

Estate-Will*	Sarah Dennis left a will dated 20 June 1881 at Ohio Co., Indiana, naming her friend and neighbor John Cutter as executor. She named the following children heirs, namely Rebecca Downey, Amanda Downey, Dennis Downey, Omer L. Downey and George Bruce Downey. She named the following grandchildren heirs, namely Clara A. Downey, Everett Crayton Downey and Adele P. "Ada" Marsh. Others mentioned include Richard Crayton Downey, Jeanette Elizabeth "Junettia" Lewis, Eliza Downey and Ross Anderson Marsh.13

His obit says the funeral service was in St. Pete but makes no mention of where he's buried. His widow Lillian and one sister (Mrs. C. J. Livering - unclear whether this is Omer's sister or Lillian's) survived him. Obit notes that he was a reporter for several newspapers.6,16,17

It doesn't add up that this is the same George.2,10
