Birth*Elzie, son of James B. Smith and Martha Ellen "Mattie" McKee, was born on 13 October 1890 in Honey Grove, Fannin Co., Texas. The 1900 census says May 1890. His death certificate says 13 Oct 1890.4,5
Census1900Elzie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 5, Fannin Co., Texas in the household of his mother, Martha Ellen "Mattie" McKee, as 10 yo son Elgy Smith.3
Census1910Elzie appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Pct. 1, Grayson Co., Texas in the household of his mother, Martha Ellen "Mattie" McKee, as 22 yo son Elgie W Smith.2
Marriage*He married Eugenia Cleo Awalt on 4 February 1911 in Hopkins Co., Texas. My preliminary research suggests their children were Mamie Ellen Smith (1912-1968, m. Noah Stanley Cox 1930), James Columbus Smith (1913-1918), Hoyt Welton Smith (1916-1987, m. Lorene Hester Tate; informant on both parents' death certificates), Loyd W Smith (1918-1995), Audrea Fay Smith (1921-1996, m. Francis Gothard 1941), and Doris Janett Smith (1933-2016, m. Richard Lee McNair 1954). Each has a Find A Grave memorial.6,1
Census1920*Elzie and Eugenia appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of 27 S. Tenth St., Corsicana, Navarro Co., Texas, as 28 yo cotton mill hand 'sister!' Elzie & 25 yo cotton mill hand 'niece!' Eugenia Smith in the household of 28 yo Pete & 25 yo Jeffie Higenbotham. Elzie & Eugenia's three children - 7 yo Mamie, 4 yo Hoyt and 1 yo Lloyd Smith - were listed as living with them as niece, niece and nephew respectively. Obviously the family relationships are a total mess but otherwise this enumeration makes sense.7
Census1930Elzie and Eugenia appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 1, Dallas Co., Texas, enumerated 19 April 1930, as 40 yo textile frame hand Elzie W & 36 yo textile frame hand wife Eugenia Smith. Marriage*She married Elzie Warren Smith, son of James B. Smith and Martha Ellen "Mattie" McKee, on 4 February 1911 in Hopkins Co., Texas. My preliminary research suggests their children were Mamie Ellen Smith (1912-1968, m. Noah Stanley Cox 1930), James Columbus Smith (1913-1918), Hoyt Welton Smith (1916-1987, m. Lorene Hester Tate; informant on both parents' death certificates), Loyd W Smith (1918-1995), Audrea Fay Smith (1921-1996, m. Francis Gothard 1941), and Doris Janett Smith (1933-2016, m. Elzie & Eugenia's three children - 7 yo Mamie, 4 yo Hoyt and 1 yo Lloyd Smith - were listed as living with them as niece, niece and nephew respectively. Obviously the family relationships are a total mess but otherwise this enumeration makes sense.6

Their sons 14 yo Hoytt, 11 yo Loyd, and 9 yo Ordry (actually daughter Audrea) were listed as living with them.7
Census1940Eugenia and Elzie appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Lovefield Cotton Mill Village, Dallas Co., Texas, enumerated 25 May 1940, as 49 yo cotton mill card room fixer Elzie & 45 yo wife Eugenia Smith. Their daughters 18 yo Audrea and 7 yo Doris Smith were listed as living with them.8

Death*Eugenia died on 19 September 1954 at 2426 Log Cabin in Dallas, Dallas Co., Texas, at age 59, of cardiac decompensation.1,4
