Birth*Edward, son of Capt. Richard Palmer and Mary Lnu, was born circa 1732 in York Co., Virginia Colony, New England.2,3
ResearchNoteResearch Note of 7 May 2019. See Edward Palmer (c1605-b1684).2
Move*Edward moved his residence from York County to Lunenburg County before 5 October 1761. Edward Palmer, "of Lunenburg Co.", deeded property to his brothers William and John and his sister Grissel Palmer this date.3
Marriage*His first marriage was to Grissel Lnu before 5 October 1761. Palmer writes, "Edward Palmer of Lunenburg Co. deeded to Edward Lewis 300 acres on the north side of the Roanoke River and on an island in the River, and his wife Grissel joined in the deed (Vol. 6, p. 468)" this date.3
Marriage*His second marriage was to Esther Marron, daughter of Daniel Marrow and Arabella Smith, on 12 June 1762 at Lunenburg Co., Virginia Colony, New England, date estimated based on birthyear of first child. Histories & Palmer both mention Esther only by her first name. Bostick says they had eight children, two boys and six girls. I'm currently showing nine, adding son John as per Trees, though he is very iffy.6,7,8,9,10
Move*Edward and Esther moved their residence from Lunenburg County to Halifax county in 1774. Palmer confirms the move to Halifax County sometime before 1778.8,11
Move*Edward moved his residence from Halifax County to Christian County in 1801, "... and settled in the Sinking Fork section between what is now Hwy 68 west and Hwy 90 north".12
LandGrant*Edward John was issued a grant for 42 acres from a survey dated 21 July 1810 at Sinking Fork Little River, Christian Co., Kentucky, by the Kentucky Land Office.13
Estate-Will*Edward John Palmer left a will dated 14 February 1823 at Christian Co., Kentucky, naming sons-in-law George and Peter Torian executors, as well as his wife Ester who was also an heir. Other named heirs included his children James, Susanna, Drury Lewis, Mary "Polly", Ursula, Arabella and Martha "Patsy". One other named heir was Edward McCarty, son of Elizabeth McCarty. It's alleged (online, without citation) that Edward's daughter Elizabeth married Joseph McCarty in 1784 in Halifax Co., Virginia. If true then Edward would have been their son. Gary cites Will Book C, p. 504.1
Death*Edward died in February 1823 in Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky.1,9,8
Estate-Probate*Edward's will was probated at Christian Co., Kentucky, on 1 March 1823.1

Birth*William, son of Capt. Richard Palmer and Mary Lnu, was born between 1736 and 1750 in York Co., Virginia Colony, New England. Bostick & Palmer concur with ca. 1736 birthyear. FSTrees (entry for William Palmer (1750-1815), ID no. K1WC-2CH) claims 1750 witout citation.1,2
ResearchNoteResearch Note of 7 May 2019. See Edward Palmer (c1605-b1684).1
ResearchNote*Research Note of 26 August 2019 re William's m1. FSTrees (entry for William Palmer (1750-1815), ID no. K1WC-2CH) claims William married Elizabeth Lewis (1751-1776, ID no. KJPF-CYH) on 12 October 1772 in Mecklenburg, VA, and that they had two children: Elizabeth Palmer (1731-1820, ID no. L7L2-Y6C, m1 James Baggett Sr in 1785, m2 John Pleasant Pryor in 1795) and Richard Palmer (1775-deceased, ID no. KHYX-F1D). No source citation is given for the Palmer-Lewis marriage and I've been unable to find one.
There are no citations for the Baggett-Palmer marriage. There are five citations for the Pryor-Palmer marriage but none of them provide any hint that the Elizabeth Palmer in those records is Elizabeth dau of William & Elizabeth. Furthermore her birth year is way out of line.
No additional information is claimed for son Richard.

ResearchNoteResearch Note of 26 August 2019 re William's m2. FSTrees (entry for William Palmer (1750-1815), ID no. K1WC-2CH) claims William m2 Mary Bracey Bressie (1755-1825, ID no. LZJN-B64) on 25 May 1776 in Granville, NC, and that they had seven children. Those children are purported to have been James (1777- ), Richard (1778- ), James (1779-1830), William Jr (1781-1831, m. Elizabeth Jetton), William Henderson (1784-1840, m1 Tryphena Starr, m2 Fnu Martin, m3 Martha Turner Cheek), John Jasper (1790-1850, m. Frances Piety Vick) and Spencer C (1797-1871, m. Rosanna McLean) Palmer. There are at least five records for the marriage of William and Mary, though whether they are for this William is uncertain.

ResearchNoteRichard's m1. Mary or Grissell Henderson or both or neither? Bostick, who doesn't cite sources but does give enough info to track many of them down, says 'Mary ?'. It's unclear whether the 'space ?' means surname unknown or firstname uncertain. Mary Lnu seems most likely to me.
FSTrees (entry for Grissel Henderson (1719–1764), KJPF-8QC) claims his wife was Grissell Henderson but provides no source references. The name Grissell is plausible since she had a daughter of that name.
Until primary, or at least more reliable, sources emerge I'm going with Mary Grissell Henderson and the dates provided by Trees. One complication is that Bostick says Richard's son Edward m1 Grissel ?, then m2 Esther Marron(w). Odd that the daughter Grissel shows up one generation before the wife. It's possible if there are other Grissels in the family in or before Richard's generation.3
Birth*Mary, daughter of Capt. Richard Palmer and Mary Lnu, was born in 1742 in Hanover Co., Virginia Colony, New England. Mary is not among Richard & Mary's issue listed in Palmer.
FSTrees shows two Marys, daus of Richard & Grissel. One shows (1732-deceased), ID MY7K-VYJ, the other (1751-deceased), ID KNQ9-FZ9. Perhaps they are key to the question of Richard's wife's name. I'm sticking with Bostick's date of 1742.1

Birth*Esther, daughter of Daniel Marrow and Arabella Smith, was born circa 1745, date estimated. Esther's surname is seen both as Marron and as Marrow in usually reliable sources. The letters n & w being hard to distinguish in script this is not surprising.1
Marriage*She married Edward John Palmer, son of Capt. Richard Palmer and Mary Lnu, on 12 June 1762 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia Colony, New England, date estimated based on birthyear of first child. Move*Drury and James moved their residence from Lunenburg County to Halifax County circa 1771. Bostick says he moved to Halifax County with an older brother. James is only older brother we know of.2
MoveJames and Drury joined the move of their parents from Lunenburg County to Halifax county in 1774.2,7
Marriage*He married Mary Faulkner, daughter of Jacob Faulkner and Catherine Howerton, on 26 January 1795 in Halifax Co., Virginia. Bostick's date is 01 Jan 1795, perhaps a bond date.8,6,9
BioNote*Biography Note: Palmer's first record of Drury is his marriage in Halifax Co. He was on the tax roles there from 1796 to 1805. There are no further records of him in Halifax Co. after 1805. Palmer believes he moved to Christian Co., KY. Bostick states that Drury's farm in Halifax Co, VA was adjacent to his father-in-law's, Jacob Faulkner. "This is thought to be where Drury and Mary started to raise their family. The farm was on Hico Creek..." Drury and Mary moved to Christian County and settled near his parents around 1811.2,6

Death*Drury died after 1823. Bostick's date of 1819 seems kind of sketchy since Drury apparently was referred to a a living child in his father's will of 1823.1,2

Birth*Peter, son of Peter Torian, was born circa 1764 in Halifax Co., Virginia Colony, New England, date estimated.3
Marriage*He married Susanna Palmer, daughter of Edward John Palmer and Esther Marron, on 23 March 1789 in Halifax Co., Virginia. Bostick's date is 01 Dec 1789. I'm going with VA Marriages for now. It seems unlikely the March date is the bond with December being the wedding.4,3,2
Move*Peter and Susanna moved their residence from Halifax County to Christian County circa 1810, 'and settled in the Sinking Fork of Little River with the Palmers, McCartys, Cravens and others from Halifax County'.3
Census1810Peter appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 11001-1301 as >45 yo Peter Torian.5
Estate-WillIn an unknown person 's will of 14 February 1823, Peter Torian was named co-executor; naming sons-in-law George and Peter Torian executors, as well as his wife Ester who was also an heir. 504.2
Census1830Peter appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 001000001-000020001 as 60-69 yo Peter Towrian (Torian). Census1840*Peter appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 0000100001-0000100011 as 70-79 yo Peter Torian. Susannah is the female 70-79. Her sister Mary may be the female 60-69. The male & female 20-29 currently unknown.7
Death*Peter died in 1845 in Christian Co., Kentucky.1
ResearchNote*Research Note of 21 May 2019 re early generations. The Palmer-Torian-Boyd families are challenging. By the 4th and 5th gens after Susannah Palmer & Peter Torian the censuses and FamilySearch databases become helpful. There are notable gaps in the sources which are remarked in the appropriate tags.

Census1820Charles appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 010101-0011, as over 45 yo male Chas McCarty. There's an unknown male 16 to 25 in the house. Daughter Susan is that age but has her own enumeration w/ husband Dickie Chappell so it's unlikely her with wrong gender.5
Census1830*Charles appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 100011001-10002 as 60-69 yo Charles McCary. Ursula is missing and presumed dead. Death*Charles died in 1836. FSTrees (entry for Edward Charles McCarty (1765–1875), L1ZH-LR2) rather preposterously claims 1875, as usual without source citation.1

Census1820*George appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 110111-3301 as over 45 yo Geo Toreyan. The male 26-44 yo is unknown. Otherwise a near-perfect listing which includes wife Martha and children Drury, William (perhaps one bracket too young), Esther, Arabella, Mary, Martha, Barbara, Ursula, and Edward Torian.5
Estate-WillIn an unknown person 's will of 14 February 1823, George Torian was named co-executor; naming sons-in-law George and Peter Torian executors, as well as his wife Ester who was also an heir. 504.4
Death*George died before 1831 in Christian Co., Kentucky, based on fact Martha is HOH in the 1830 census.3,6

Daniel Palmer1

M, #2755, b. circa 1811
FatherDrury Lewis Palmer Sr.1 b. c 1770, d. a 1823
MotherMary Faulkner1 b. c 1789
Last Edited29 Apr 2024
Birth*Daniel, son of Drury Lewis Palmer Sr. and Mary Faulkner, was born circa 1811 in Kentucky.2,1
MoveWilliam, Drury, Samuel, Daniel, Esther, Sarah, Martha and Harriet joined the move of their parents from Halifax County to Christian Co., Kentucky in 1812.3,1
Census1830Daniel is probably the male age 10 to 14 listed in the household of his mother, Mary Faulkner, in the 1830 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky. Daniel is one bracket too young.4
Marriage*He married Margaret A. Lnu before 1839, date based on eldest child's birth year in the 1850 census. Bostick writes, "Daniel married Mary A.?".2,1
Census1840*Daniel appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Pettis Co., Missouri, with a household listed as 10001-00001 as 20-29 yo Daniel Palmer. His wife Mary and son James were living with him. Brothers William & Drury live in adjacent Rives (later Henry) County.5
Census1850Daniel and Margaret appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 68, Pettis Co., Missouri, enumerated 30 August 1850, as 39 yo farmer Daniel & 32 yo Margaret A Palmer. Their children James B., William H., John E. and Green T. were listed as living with them.2
Census1860*Daniel and Margaret appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Tebo Twp., Henry Co., Missouri, enumerated 25 August 1860, as 50 yo farmer Daniel & 44 yo Margaret A. Palmer. Their children James B., William H., Green T., Mary E. and Fayette R. were listed as living with them. Daniel's brother Drury Palmer and his family live in the same township. His nephew Joseph G Palmer, wife Phillipi and family also live in Tebo Twp.6
Census1870Daniel and Margaret appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Otterville PO, Moniteau Twp., Cooper Co., Missouri, enumerated 6 September 1870, as 59 yo farmer Daniel & 543 yo Margaret Palmer. Their children Green T., Fayette R. and Annie M. were listed as living with them.7
ResearchNote*Research Note of 15 July 2019 re weak sources. Bostick is my primary source much of this Palmer family in the 1700s and 1800s. He says only that Daniel was a son of Drury & Mary Faulkner and that he married Mary A?. In the same paragraph he says Daniel's older brother William married Mary Allison Means.
FSTrees (entry for Daniel Morgan Palmer (1807–Deceased), ID no. MM2N-JXJ) claims with no source citations that Daniel's full name was Daniel Morgan Palmer and that he married Mary A Means ca. 1835. I find no such marriage record.
Brother William didn't die until 1862 so the possiblility that Daniel married William's widow doesn't fly. The census record supports my conclusion that Daniel and Margaret are the couple that Bostick calls 'Daniel & Mary A?', and that FSTrees calls 'Daniel & Mary A Means.1'

In addition to Elijah & Esther's children we find Richard's wife 32 yo Rebecca, their three children 12 yo Lucien C, 5 yo John M, and 2 yo Mary Cravens. Next we find 24 yo Susan Cravens, née Pool, who is Lycurgus's wife, with their 0.11 yo son Elijah C Jr. It's odd he's a 'Jr' since he's named for his grandfather, not father. Finally unknown 20 yo Thomas Cravens and 21 yo overseer John P. Boyd.10
Census1880Esther appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Bainbridge, Christian Co., Kentucky, as 79 yo widowed mother Esther Cravens in the household of her son William Cravens and Francis Howe; as 49 yo carpenter William & 40 yo wife Francis Cravens.11

Marriage*She married Thomas Dunkerson on 2 November 1824 in Christian Co., Kentucky. Bostick claims 2 October.5,1,2
Census1830Sarah is probably the female age 20 to 29 listed in the household of her husband, Thomas Dunkerson, in the 1830 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky.6
Census1850*Sarah and Thomas appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 27, Harrison Co., Missouri, enumerated 18 November 1850, as 59 yo farmer Thomas & 53 yo Catherine Dunkinson. Their children George M., Elizabeth, Margaret, John Benton, Sarah and James S. were listed as living with them.7
Census1860*Sarah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Snell's Mill, Union Twp., Harrison Co., Missouri, enumerated 9 July 1860, as 53 yo farmer Catherine Dunkerson. Her children Sarah and James S. were listed as living with her. Nearly unreadable. I'm relying on the Ancestry transcription. John B. Dunkerson, likely her son, is living next door.3
Census1870Sarah appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Harrison Co., Missouri, as 63 yo Catharine Dunkerson in the household of William W & Mary Quillin.8
Death*Sarah died on 14 December 1872 in Harrison Co., Missouri, at age 66.1
Burial*She was buried at Allen Cemetery in Eagleville, Harrison Co., Missouri. Headstone photo available at Find A Grave.1
ResearchNote*Research Note of 1 July 2019 re 1860 census. Which of these women in the 1860 census is Sarah Catherine Palmer Dunkerson?
Catherine Dunkerson, Union Twp, Harrison, MO, 53 yo b VA, w/ presumed children 20 yo Sarah & 18 yo James Dunkerson, plus 9 yo James Jones. Her son John B & his wife Jane Dunkerson live next door. Catherine's age and birthstate are correct.
Sarah Dunkerson, Union, Harrison, MO, 55 yo b KY, in home of John P & Sarah A Palmerton, who have two Palmerton kids. Below Sarah we find 15 yo Robert & 25 yo Edward Dunkerson. Sarah is parenthetically named Sarah Catherine Palmer but by whom? Sarah's age is too high by 2 years and birthstate is wrong. Searching surname Palmerton I find no connection. No clue whether Sarah's surname is maiden or married.
Conclusion, I believe Catherine to be Sarah Catherine Palmer Dunkerson, not Sarah.3

ResearchNoteResearch Note of 2 July 2019. See her husband Thomas Dunkerson (1790-1856).
