Jacob Heistand III1,2

M, #6275, b. 3 November 1787, d. 23 December 1866
Last Edited5 Aug 2023
Birth*Jacob was born on 3 November 1787 in Virginia. The 1860 census suggests ca. 1792.
Jacob's clan is back and forth between spelling their surname Heistand and Hiestand. Siblings didn't agree on their headstones. Jacob's headstone spelling is Hiestand so that's what I'm going with.3,1
Marriage*He married Susannah Andereck circa 1815. Mason claims two other children for whom I've found no evidence. There were Jacob IV (c1814-c1815) and David Heistand (c1819-c1820).4,5
Census1820Jacob appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Violet Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 200010-001 as 26-44 yo Jacob Huston. His wife Susannah likely the female 16-25 yo, sons John and Michael the males <10 yo. A perfect match.6
Census1830*Jacob appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Liberty Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 102001-220001 as 30-39 yo Jacob Heistand. Likely household members include his wife Susannah and children John, Michael, Catherine, Barbara, Susannah, and Elizabeth. Only one unknown in this enumeration and that's the male <5 yo.7
Census1840Jacob appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Liberty Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 0100101-0112001 as 40-49 yo Jacob Heuston. His wife Susannah likely the female 40-49 yo, son Michael the male 20-29 yo, daughters Catherine & Barbara the females 15-19 yo, daughter Susannah the female 10-14, daughter Elizabeth the female 5-9 and finally son Elisha the male 5-9 yo. Jake's FamilySearch Trees entry (LKBP-QPP) claims there were 14 Heistand families in Fairfield County in the 1840 census. I've not confirmed that.8
Census1850Jacob and Susannah appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Liberty Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio, enumerated 13 August 1850, as 59 yo farmer Jacob & 52 yo Susannah Heaston. Their daughter Susannah was listed as living with them, as well as Susannah's husband 21 yo John Hummell and 18 yo Elisha Hummell, possibly a brother to John.9
Census1860*Jacob and Susannah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Liberty Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio, enumerated 21 July 1860, as 68 yo farmer Jacob & 60 yo Susanna Heistand. Their daughter Barbara was listed as living with them. Susannah's four children, 18 yo Susanna E, 16 yo Elizabeth, 12 yo Barbary A and 10 yo Jacob M Brown, were also in the home. Their 28 yo son Elisha Heistand lives next door with his family.1
Census1860Jacob appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Liberty Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio, as a neighbor of his son-in-law & daughter John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand.10
Residence*Jacob Heistand III and Susannah Andereck resided on 20 November 1865 on their farm being the northwest quarter of Section 18, Township 16, Range 19. A quarter section amounts to 160 acres. Jake's will says the farm was about 164 acres overall.11
Estate-Will*Jacob Heistand III left a will dated 20 November 1865 at Liberty Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio,
In Item 1 he named his wife heir to the farm, stock, household goods and furniture during her natural life. At her death the farm was to be split between his sons John W, Michael, Elisha J and his daughters Elizabeth Hannah and Catharine Slyfe. Note that daughters Barbara and Susannah are not mentioned in this part.
In Item 2 he named his daughters Barbara Brown, Susannah Hummel and Elizabeth Hannah, leaving $5 to Barbara, $150 to Susannah and to Elizabeth $100, in addition to their equal share of the real estate
In Item 3 he appointed sons John W & Elisha J Heistand executors.11
Estate-Codicil*He made a codicil on 26 November 1866 at Fairfield Co., Ohio,
In Item 1 Jacob gave $10 to son Michael, 'the former amount given to him being hereby revoked and therefore void'.
In Item 2 Jacob gave $10 to son Elisha J, 'the former amount given to him being hereby revoked and therefore void'.
In Item 3 he said that if son John W should die before his wife Susan that John's share of the state would go to Susan.
In Item 4 he appointed his 'eternal friend Gilbert Outcall' executor in place of son Elisha J Heistand who had left the county.
.11
Death*Jacob died on 23 December 1866 at age 79. His wife Susannah is alone with his probable sister Barbara in the 1870 census.3,12
Burial*He was buried at Fairview-Ritter Cemetery in Pickerington, Fairfield Co., Ohio. Headstone photo available at Find A Grave. Died age 75y 4m 8d.3
Estate-AdminHis administration of estate began on 23 January 1867 at Fairfield Co., Ohio. This date co-executors John W Heistand (Jake's son), William Schapp and John J Hanna posted administrator's bond of $4,000 with promise to provide inventory within 3 months and to complete probate within 18 months. The will and codicil were proved in court two days prior, 21 Jan 1867.13

George Sarber1

M, #6279, b. 18 November 1810, d. 8 June 1891
Last Edited26 Apr 2024
Birth*George was born on 18 November 1810 in Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, s/o Adam Sarber and Catherine Enslen. Find A Grave says 13 Nov but based on age at death from tombstone 18 Nov is correct.2,3
Marriage*He married Lydia Andereck, daughter of Jacob Andereck Sr. and Catherine "Caty" Smith, on 5 August 1834 in Franklin Twp., Franklin Co., Ohio.4,1
Census1840*George appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Union Twp., Putnam Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 10001-100001 as 20-29 yo George Sarber. His wife Lydia is probably the female 30-39, though one bracket too old. Their children Catherine & Hiram are likely the female & male <5 yo. Four HOHs with surname Clevenger live within three doors either side. There were at least two intermarriages between Anderecks and Clevengers.5
Census1850*George and Lydia appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Franklin Twp., Kosciusko Co., Indiana, enumerated 24 October 1850, as 39 yo farmer Geo & 34 yo Lydia Sarber. Their children Mary Catherine, Hiram and Albert were listed as living with them.6
Census1860George and Lydia appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Franklin Twp., Kosciusko Co., Indiana, enumerated 16 July 1860, as 50 yo farmer George & 44 yo Lydia Sarber. Their son Albert was listed as living with them. Son Hiram Sarber & wife Mary are living next door.7
Census1870George and Lydia appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Franklin Twp., Kosciusko Co., Indiana, enumerated 15 September 1870, as 60 yo farmer George & 56 yo Lydia Sarber, |Also in the household were William (7 yo) and Emma (15 yo) Sarber, both born Indiana and both currently unknown. Next door is George's son Albert and his family. Two doors below is his son Hiram and his family..8
Census1880George and Lydia appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Franklin Twp., Kosciusko Co., Indiana, enumerated 23 June 1880, as 69 yo farmer George & 64 yo Lidia Sarber. Sixteen yo grandaughter Mary Morgan and 13 yo grandson Curtis Sarber were listed as living with them. George & Lydia's son Albert and his family live next door above. It's possible that George & Lydia were living with Albert because the enumerator did not show Heads of Household or dwelling or family numbers.9
Death*George died on 8 June 1891 in Kosciusko Co., Indiana, at age 80.2,10
Burial*He was buried at Mentone Cemetery in Mentone, Kosciusko Co., Indiana. Find A Grave provides headstone photo.11

Arabella C. "Arra" Odell1,2

F, #6287, b. 27 October 1872, d. 19 September 1958
Last Edited20 Jul 2024
Birth*Arabella was born on 27 October 1872 in Honey Grove, Fannin Co., Texas, d/o Charles W. Odell & Jane Wood. Her middle name claimed to be Columbus by the Hartis tree at Ancestry without citation. The only support I've found is her son Raymond's WWI draft card which lists his mother as A C Covel.1
Marriage*She married David A. McKee, son of Alexander A. McKee and Sarah Jemimah Baird, from 1 February 1893 to 4 February 1893 in Fannin Co., Texas. Allen claims 04 Feb, Select says 01 Feb. Perhaps one is the license and the other the marriage.
Other issue per Allen was David Hilburn McKee but I've seen no evidence in support.
Arra apparently remarried before 1918 to Fnu Covel. She shows up with the Covel surname in several documents, e.g. son Raymond's WWI draft card. I've been unable to find Arra in ANY of the 1910-1950 censuses!.3,4,2
Census1900*Arabella and David appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Twp. 5, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, enumerated 22 June 1900, as 42 yo David A & 27 yo wife Arabella C McKee. Their children Otis Leeman and Raymond Provine were listed as living with them, as well as 29 yo boarder Floyd Johnson. This census is unreadable so I've relied on HQO's values.5
Residence*Arabella resided in Lindsay, Garvin Co., Oklahoma, on 12 September 1917.4
Death*Arabella died on 19 September 1958 at Arkansas State Hospital in Van Buren, Crawford Co., Arkansas, at age 85, of chronic myocarditis.1

James Monroe Holt1,2

M, #6289, b. 11 July 1861, d. 1 June 1942
Last Edited17 Aug 2024
Birth*James was born on 11 July 1861 in North Carolina. The 1900 census says July 1860.1
Marriage*He married Sarah Alice McKee, daughter of Alexander A. McKee and Sarah Jemimah Baird, on 25 February 1886 in Honey Grove, Fannin Co., Texas. Married 13 years with 6 born & 2 living in 1900. Issue per Allen were Wesley and Lonnie Holt.3,4,2
Census1900*James and Sarah appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 6, Lamar Co., Texas, enumerated 20 June 1900, as 39 yo farmer James M & 43 yo wife Alice Holt. Their children Wesley Lee and Lonnie E. were listed as living with them.5
Census1910James and Sarah appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Pct. 6, Lamar Co., Texas, enumerated 27 April 1910, as 49 yo farmer Jim M & 42 yo wife Sarah A Holt. Their children Wesley Lee and Lonnie E. were listed as living with them.6
Census1920James and Sarah appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Pct. 6, Lamar Co., Texas, enumerated 17 January 1920, as 59 yo farmer James M & 53 yo wife Sarah Holt. Their daughter Lonnie E. was listed as living with them, as well as one boarder.7
Census1930James and Sarah appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 1, Dawson Co., Texas, enumerated 17 April 1930, as 69 yo farmer James M & 62 yo wife Sarah A Holt.8
Census1940James and Sarah appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Lamesa, Dawson Co., Texas, enumerated 13 April 1940, as 79 yo J M & 71 yo wife Sarah Alice Holt. We find in same household a 20 yo daughter Alice Marie Holt & her husband Haskell Clark. Best guess is that Alice is adopted. She certainly is not in either of the two prior censuses. Her 'mother' Sarah Alice would have been 52 yo 20 years ago.9
DeathJames Monroe Holt was the informant on his wife Sarah Alice McKee's death certificate on 21 February 1942; of paralysis.10,4
Death*James died on 1 June 1942 at age 80.1
Burial*He was buried at Dawson County Cemetery in Lamesa, Dawson Co., Texas. Joint headstone photo available at Find A Grave.1

Marriage*He married Rachel Andereck, daughter of Jacob Andereck Sr. and Catherine "Caty" Smith, on 17 December 1837 in Fairfield Co., Ohio. Smith's date is 4 Dec but County Marriages clearly shows the marriage date as 17 Dec.1,2
ResearchNote*Research Note of 25 February 2024 re 1840 census. There's a enumeration in the 1840 Federal census of Liberty, Fairfield, Ohio for Jacob Hunterlick (Henterlick) listing 21001-000001. I surmise this is Jacob & Rachel with three sons from her m1 to Stuphen. Next door above is 60-69 yo Jacob Henterlick with female same age. These two I suspect are our Jacob's parents.
