Last Edited14 Oct 2022
Birth*Mary, daughter of Elijah Clay Cravens and Esther Wilmuth Palmer, was born on 8 April 1836 in Kentucky.3,1
Census1840Mary is probably the female under age 5 listed in the household of her father, Elijah Clay Cravens, in the 1840 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky.4
Census1850Mary appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 1, Christian Co., Kentucky in the household of her parents, Elijah Clay Cravens and Esther Wilmuth Palmer, as 15 yo Mary Agnes Cravins.1

Census1860*Mary and John appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Hopkinsville PO, Christian Co., Kentucky, enumerated 23 April 1860, as 25 yo John & 23 yo Mary Ricketts. Next door above we find a Ricketts family who are likely John's parents, Hezekiah & Sarah, and two siblings, Berlinda & Bazil. They are enumerated as 64 yo H, 56 yo S, 15 yo B E, and 13 yo B M Ricketts. Their names per FSTrees. John's age is off by about 5 years.7
Census1870Mary and John appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Scates Mill Pct., Christian Co., Kentucky, enumerated 11 July 1870, as 39 yo John T & 32 yo Mary A Ricketts. John's parents still live next door.8
Death*Mary died on 8 December 1875 at age 39.3
Burial*She was buried at Cravens Cemetery in Gracey, Christian Co., Kentucky. It's by no means certain this is Mollie's grave but it seems very likely given both her parents and brothers Richard & William are buried in the same cemetery. The birth and death years work well with the census records.3
ResearchNoteResearch Note of 8 June 2019. See her husband John T Ricketts (aft 1829-1896).

FSTrees (entry for Buck Cravens (1861-1922), 293L-4R6) claims without citation 04 Dec 1894 in Caldwell Co., KY. That date doesn't work very well with these two censuses.
According to FSTrees Bertha married Albert L Purdy on same date claimed for her marriage to Cravens, with issue Mamie and Ida L Purdy.
My preliminary research suggests their children were Henry B. (1901-1982, m. Gertrude Johnson), Maud E. (c1903- ), Mary Lydia or Lois (1905-1988, perhaps m. Daniel A Kessler), Bertha Frances (1909-2003, m. Isaac Franklin Richardson), Susie H (1911- ), Beulah (c1915- ), and
Nellie Cravens (c1917- ).5,6
Census1900Buckner and Bertha appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Cadiz, Trigg Co., Kentucky, enumerated 9 June 1900, as 38 yo Buckner P & 19 yo Bertha G Cravens. Their children 4 yo Marie & 2 yo Ida Purdy (from Bertha's m1), and brother-in-law Jack Jones were listed as living with them.7

Marr-Divorce*Buckner was divorced from Bertha Maddux Jones between 1916 and 1920. Date based on daughter Nellie's age of 3.10 in the 1920 census. FSTrees (entry for Bertha Maddux Jones (1880-1946), 2MG1-QPB) says Bertha m3 Herbert Henry Parker in 1924.8

Birth*James, son of Lycurgus Gilliham Cravens Sr. and Susan E. Pettypool, was born circa 1867 in Kentucky.1
Census1870James appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Cadiz, Trigg Co., Kentucky in the household of his parents, Lycurgus Gilliham Cravens Sr. and Susan E. Pettypool, as 3 yo James Cravens.1
Death*James died before 19 June 1880. I speculate that James died before the 1880 census of this date. He would have been only 13 yo and normally would have been living with his parents. He is missing but siblings on both sides are enumerated.2
ResearchNote*Research Note of 6 May 2019 re too many James Cravens. Unfortunately there were a great many James Cravens in Kentucky born within a year or two of 1867. I checked all those listed with Find A Grave memorials and all of them show different parents. Where this James went after the 1870 census is currently unknown.

Birth*Susan, daughter of Lycurgus Gilliham Cravens Sr. and Susan E. Pettypool, was born in 1876 in Kentucky.2,1
Census1880Susan appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Bainbridge, Christian Co., Kentucky in the household of her parents, Lycurgus Gilliham Cravens Sr. and Susan E. Pettypool, as 4 yo Susan M Cravens.1
Marriage*She married Benjamin Jefferson Keeney on 6 November 1895 in Christian Co., Kentucky.3,2
Census1900*Susan and Benjamin appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Mag. Dist. 6, Christian Co., Kentucky, at Lafayette, enumerated 12 June 1900, as 30 yo Jefferson & 24 yo Susan Keeny. Jeff's 23 yo sister Fannie Keeny was listed as living with them.4
Census1910Susan and Benjamin appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Mag. Dist. 6, Trigg Co., Kentucky, at Canton Rd., enumerated 13 May 1910, as 40 yo Jeff & 34 yo Susan Keeney. I suspect sloppy enumerator here and that this is actually Christian County. In 1900 they were in MD6 Christian. In 1930 again MD6 Christian. Furthermore they lived on Canton Rd in 1910 and again in 1930. I find no evidence of a border change in these two counties between '10 and '30.5
CensusLead*A person who might be Susan appeared on the 1920 census in 47 yo at Herndon, Christian Co., Kentucky, Ben F Keeney. The problems with this enumeration are, a) Ben is 3 yrs too young while his other four censuses are perfect, b) Susan is 1-2 yrs too young, c) there's a 'son' 11 yo Robert Keeney. There's no son Robert in the 1910. Perhaps this is the 32 yo nephew Robert Barnes from the 1930 census.6
Census1930Susan and Benjamin appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Mag. Dist. 6, Christian Co., Kentucky, at Canton Rd., enumerated 26 April 1930, as 60 yo Ben J & 53 yo Susie Keeney.7
Census1940Susan and Benjamin appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Mag. Dist. 6, Christian Co., Kentucky, enumerated 17 May 1940, as 70 yo B Jeff & 64 yo Sudie Keeney. A 32 yo nephew Robert E Barnes was listed as living with them.8
Death*Susan died in 1961.2
Burial*She was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky. Joint headstone photo w/ husband B J Keeney available at Find A Grave.2
