Cynthia L. Wilson1,2,3
F, #666, b. circa 1821, d. before 1 October 1863
ResearchNote* | Research Note re her parents. The following, in no particular order, are the arguments for Joseph Wilson & Sarah B. Donaldson being the parents of Cynthia L Wilson: Ruth McKee Loving writes in Nov 1967 re Sam Wilson McKee, his "first wife - Cynthia Wilson". Later she writes, "The first wife of Samuel Wilson McKee was Cynthia (Wilson????) seems that someone told me her name was Wilson. Cousin Cynthy McKee must have been named for her as her mother was a sister to Cynthia". Cynthy McKee was Cynthia Belle McKee, daughter of Daniel E. and Sarah B. Wilson McKee. This makes Sarah B. a sister to C.L. if Loving is correct. Loving is granddaughter of Sam Wilson McKee and his second wife Arabella Slaughter. Sarah B. Wilson is living with parents Joseph & Sarah in Hunt Co., TX in the 1850 census. In the 1860 census Joe Wilson is living next door to Sam W. & C.L. McKee in Fannin County with many of same children that were with him and Sarah in 1850 Hunt County. Sam & C.L.'s grandaughter was named Ervie Joe Blair. Not Josephine, but Joe. In June 1838 in Obion Co., TN, Joseph Wilson gives three slaves to his daughter Elizabeth Wilson McKee. Elizabeth had married Dr. James R. McKee in Obion County in May of that year. James R. McKee is brother to Sam Wilson McKee.1,4,5,6,7 |
Birth* | Cynthia, daughter of Joseph Wilson and Sarah B. Donaldson, was born circa 1821 in Tennessee. Bullock's March letter says Cynthia was "born Tennessee 1818 (1815 or16)"; the 1850 Federal confirms ca. 1821.8,2,9 |
Marriage* | She married Dr. Samuel Wilson McKee, son of Isaac McKee and Nancy Janet "Jane" Richmond, on 23 November 1843 in Republic of Texas. The 102nd Anniversary article writes, "Only two of the charter members families, S. W. and Cynthia McKee and...".10,1 |
Church* | Samuel and Cynthia and Samuel were founding members of the Dial Presbyterian Church in Fannin Co., Texas, in 1846.11 |
Census1850 | Cynthia and Samuel appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Fannin Co., Texas, enumerated 1 June 1850, as 32 yo physician S W & 29 yo C L McKee. Their real estate was valued at $450.5 |
Census1860 | Cynthia and Samuel appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Honey Grove, Fannin Co., Texas, enumerated 11 July 1860, as 42 yo Cumberland Presbyterian minister S W & 38 yo C L McKee. Their children James William "Bill" "Will", Mary Elizabeth and Margaret E. "Maggie" were listed as living with them. Sam's mother Jane McKee lives next door in the W Woodward home.12 |
Death* | Cynthia died before 1 October 1863. Sam married Arabella on 1 Oct 1863.13 |
Burial* | She was buried at unknown cemetery in Honey Grove, Fannin Co., Texas.14 |

Andrew Jack Myers1
M, #673, b. 1858, d. 8 April 1930
Birth* | Andrew, son of George Myers and Catherine Andereck, was born in 1858 in Illinois. 1857 per headstone, 1858 per the 1880 & 1900 Federal Censuses; we'll go with the 1900 census since either AJ or his wife would have given the information.5,6 |
Census1870 | Andrew appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Sandoval Twp., Marion Co., Illinois in the household of his parents, George Myers and Catherine Andereck, as 13 yo Andrew Myers.7 |

Marriage* | He married Maggie Troute on 12 August 1880 in Odin Twp., Marion Co., Illinois. AJ was married & living w/ his father in the 1885 KS Census. Maggie's name is nearly illegible in the 1900 Census - could say May or Mary. In the 1930 census he claims to have been married at age 23, she at 20 so 1880 is the year that fits each fact ±1 year.9,6 |
Move | Martha, William, Andrew, George and Eliza joined the move of his father from Marion Co., Illinois to Allen Co., Kansas circa September 1880.10,11 |
CensusNF1 | Andrew appeared on the 1885 Kansas State Census of Ozark Twp., Allen Co., Kansas, in the household of his father, George Myers, as 26 yo A J Myers.12 |
CensusNF1* | Andrew and Maggie appeared on the 1895 Kansas state census of Osage Twp., Allen Co., Kansas, enumerated circa 1 March 1895, as 37 yo A J & 35 yo Maggie Myers. Their children Walter W. and Edith Amanda were listed as living with them.13 |
Census1900* | Andrew and Maggie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Osage Twp., Allen Co., Kansas, enumerated 2 June 1900, as 41 yo farmer A J & 39 yo wife Mag Myers. Their children Walter W. and Edith Amanda were listed as living with them, along with Andrew's 76 yo widowed father George. Brother Isaac's enumeration begins on the previous page and ends at top of Andrew's.14 |
Census1910 | Andrew and Maggie appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Baker, Crawford Co., Kansas, enumerated 7 May 1910, as 52 yo night watchman A J & 49 yo wife Maggie Meyrs. Their children Edith Amanda, May Della and Walter W. were listed as living with them, as well as Edith's 27 yo husband Oscar Raines , their 0.1 yo daughter Nellie Genevieve Raines, Mame's husband 35 yo Ellzey and 10 yo son Loyed Forest Daugherty, and Walter's 18 yo wife Escey Myers. There are three families in this household but only one family (AJ & Maggie) is numbered. The heads were AJ & Maggie, Ellzey & Mame Daugherty, and Walter & Escey Myrs. The enumerator's handwriting is okay but he probably couldn't spell his own name.15 |
Death | Andrew Jack Myers was the informant on his brother William L. Myers's death certificate on 19 November 1918.16,17,11,18 |
Residence* | Andrew resided in Iola, Allen Co., Kansas, on 2 December 1918.10 |
Census1920 | Andrew and Maggie appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of La Harpe, Allen Co., Kansas, enumerated 1 June 1920, as 63 yo general store salesman A J & 59 yo wife Maggie Myers.19 |
Death* | Andrew died on 8 April 1930 at his home in La Harpe, Allen Co., Kansas. A.J.'s obit of 09 April in the Iola Register says 'yesterday', but he's also in the 1930 census of 14 April. Headstones simply says 1930.20,5,21 |
Census1930 | Andrew and Maggie appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of La Harpe, Allen Co., Kansas, enumerated 14 April 1930, as 72 yo Jack A & 69 yo wife Maggie Myers. Jack's 83 yo widowed sister Martha Myers was listed as living with them, as well as grandchildren 20 yo Genevieve, 15 yo Russell and 12 yo Leon Raines, children of Jack & Maggie's daughter Edith and her husband Oscar Raines, both deceased.22 |
Burial* | He was buried at Fairview Cemetery in Mildred, Allen Co., Kansas. Joint headstone photo w/ wife Maggie is available at Find A Grave.6,5 |

Margaret E. "Maggie" McKee1,2
F, #678, b. 24 February 1859, d. before 8 June 1880
Birth* | Margaret, daughter of Dr. Samuel Wilson McKee and Cynthia L. Wilson, was born on 24 February 1859 in Texas.5,1 |
Baptism | Margaret was baptized on 6 May 1860 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Bethel, Fannin Co., Texas.6 |
Census1860 | Margaret appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Honey Grove, Fannin Co., Texas in the household of her parents, Dr. Samuel Wilson McKee and Cynthia L. Wilson, as 1 yo Margret E McKee.7 |
Census1870 | Margaret appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Bonham PO, Fannin Co., Texas in the household of her parents, Dr. Samuel Wilson McKee and Arabella "Belle" Slaughter, as 11 yo Margaret E McKee.8 |
Death* | Margaret died before 8 June 1880. All of Sam's children except Margaret & Cynthia Belle were living with him in the 1880 census. Margaret would have been 21 yo, Cynthia 17 yo in 1880, so both could possibly have been married and out of the house. Neither was among the living children listed in Sam's will of 29 May 1888. So while it's certain both were dead by 1888, it seems highly likely both were dead by 1880. Fact that Sam mentioned no grandchildren by either daughter also argues for the earlier date.9,10 |

BioNote* | Biography Note of 1929: Clement quotes following from his obituary which appeared in the Danville Register, Dec. 1878: "Death of Capt. John Keen. A noble landmark has been removed by the stern and relentless hand of death. Information was received here yesterday that the well known and highly respected citizen of this county had departed this life. Captain Keen was nearly ninety years of age, and at one time was a prominent and influential politician enjoying a reputation throughout the state. We regret our inability at this time to sketch even a outline of this remarkable man. For many years he was the leader of the Whig party in this county, and was honored by his party with a seat in the State Legislature which position he filled with distinguished ability reflecting credit on his constituents, and establishing for himself a character for efficient integrity rarely equaled. He was a contemporary of the venerable Vincent Witcher, the old style horse of the Whig party, who yet survives. No man ever lived who excelled the deceased as a man of infallible honesty. True to every interest he represented boldly and without fear or favor devoted his energy to the accomplishment of his purpose. His habits were good and remained so to his death. Capt. Keen married Miss Nancy Witcher a daughter of Vincent Witcher of this county, and reared a large family of whom Col. Elisha Ford Keen perhaps was the most distinguished having represented Pittsylvania in both houses of the State Legislature."8 |

Maj. William Witcher Sr.1,2,3,4
M, #683, b. before 1739, d. 8 June 1808
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 7 September 2022 re Wayne Witcher's website. A Witcher Family Genealogy has forced me to rethink all of my distant Witcher kin. His research has been exhaustive in original documents, not simply repeating other website's claims. Data revisions include, * J F Williams's claims that the "Witchers arrived in the Colonies in the 1750s from Liverpool". This was previously in an immigration tag for William and then supposed wife Rachel Ann Majors. * Mary B Smith's claim that William m1 Rachel Anna Majors. That marriage removed. She shows a son Lacy who m. Elizabeth Lyon. That chlld removed.5,6 |
Birth* | William was born before 1739. His middle name is alleged to be Reuben in most sources but I've seen no primary evidence of this. Contradictory claims: > Swann claims both England and Pittsylvania County. > Find A Grave claims 18 Sep 1758 in Pittsylvania County. > J F Williams claims 1724 in Liverpool, England. > DAR Lineage Books claim 1724 in England.5,7,8,9 |
Marriage* | He married Lydia Atkinson before 1757. Wayne Witcher writes, Unfortunately, the identity of William Witcher’s wife is yet unproven, as not a single record of dower, vestry record, or marriage bond is known to exist. However, family and internet folklore swirls around the names, Ann Major, and Lydia Atkin/son, as women who were married to William Witcher. Again, I have seen no proof that William was married to either of these two women. In fact, the earliest records for Pittsylvania County appear void of any evidence that a family named Majors ever lived in the county. I have not conducted an exhaustive search for the Majors surname, but I have not stumbled across that name in my research. However, families named Atkins and Atkinson were abundant in the area, and court records reveal an obvious relationship between William Atkinson and William Witcher. Since William Witcher bought his first land in Halifax County from a man named William Atkinson, 100 acres of prime riverfront land, for a sweetheart price of five shillings, around the time his first recorded son was born. This all lends credibility to the suspicion that John Witcher’s mother was indeed a woman born an Atkinson. This woman was probably the Lydia Atkinson ancient memories so faintly recall. I highly suspect that William Witcher bought his land in Halifax County from his father-in-law, William Atkinson Sr. Other alleged wives of William Witcher Sr.: > DAR 133 says he "m. --- Majors". > Swann files say he m. Ann Sucard. > M B Smith says he m1 Rachel Anna Majors and m2 Liddy Theodocia Atkinson. > J F Williams says he m. Mary Ann Majors in Apr 1746. > H S Hubbard says he m. Ann Majors. Other alleged children of William Witcher Sr.: > W F Williams adds Polly Thadalia Witcher (?-?).5 |
Occupation* | William was appointed constable by a court to fill the vacant office in 1757 at Halifax (now Pittsylvania) Co., Virginia.10 |
LandDeal* | He purchased 100 acres on the north side of Pigg River (Halifax Co.) from William Atkinson in July 1758, paying 'a paltry five shillings'.10 |
TaxList* | Maj. William Witcher Sr. appeared on tithable records of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Colony, New England, enumerated in 1767.10 |
Church* | William was a vestryman and founding member of the Episcopal Church in Camden Parish, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Colony, New England, on 21 June 1767.11 |
Milit-BegO* | Maj. William Witcher Sr. was nominated as Captain of Militia at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Colony, New England, on 27 September 1775. In 1776 he had command of Camp Martin with 200 men during the absence of the army. He fought at Guilford Court House under Col. Lynch and at Eutaw Springs under Stephens.12,2 |
Milit-Service | Maj. William Witcher Sr. served as Major with the Pittsylvania County Militia during the Revolutionary War , receiving his appointment on 16 November 1779. He resigned the commission as Major on 19 Sep 1780.13 |
Estate-Misc* | William gave a slave to his granddaughter Oney Withcer in April 1806.1 |
Estate-Will* | Maj. William Witcher Sr. left a will dated 8 December 1806 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, appointing his sons John and William his executors and also naming them as heirs. Other named heirs included his children Daniel, Ephraim, James, Caleb, Elizabeth and Rachael.14 |
Death* | William died on 8 June 1808 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Williams & Swann claim 08 Jun 1806 without citation. Find A Grave says 1806-1807 which works better with an 08 Dec 1806 will. I'm using the date from Find A Grave.7,15,8,16 |
Burial* | He was buried at William Witcher Family Cemetery in Ajax, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Headstone photo and extensive bio available at Find A Grave.7 |
Estate-Probate* | William's will was probated at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, on 18 July 1808. See Will tag for executors and heirs.14 |

Notes on Witcher claims five children, Almary (m. Josiah Turner), Juliana (m. Fnu Aron), Noland, a daughter (m. Fnu Watkins) and Emily Witcher. No marriage record at VA Marriages 1700-1850 or at VA Land, Marriage & Probate.5,1,3 |

Ephraim Witcher1,2,3
M, #689, b. between 1801 and 1810
Birth* | Ephraim, son of William Witcher Jr. and Mary "Mollie" Dalton, was born between 1801 and 1810. Date range per 1840 census. Scatterlings says 1794, Descendants 1802.5,2 |
Marriage* | He married Nancy Young circa 1819, date estimated.3 |
Census1840* | Ephraim appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Regiment 107, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, with a household listed as 011001-211101 as 30-39 yo Ephraim Witcher. A perfect match but for the unknown female 15-19 yo. If Descendants is correct and Elizabeth is older than I've shown and there's another daughter, Julia Ann, then it's perfect. Angeline's age appears to be 20 in the 1850 but it's poorly written and could be 26 which would jive with Descendants' numbers.5 |
Census1850* | Ephraim and Nancy appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 68, Pettis Co., Missouri, enumerated 12 September 1850, as 50 yo farmer Ephraim & 50 yo Nancy Witcher. Their children William Patrick, Elizabeth Angelina, Peyton Oglesby, Harriett Jane, Sarah Emily and Nancy Frances were listed as living with them.6 |
Census1860 | Ephraim and Nancy appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Heaths Creek Twp., Pettis Co., Missouri, enumerated 14 August 1860, as 58 yo farmer Ephraim & 58 yo Nancy Witcher. Also in the household were 25 yo James & 20 yo Fanny Hodges, 2 yo Clay & 0.5 yo Frances Hodges and 12 yo Daniel B. Owens. I speculate that Fanny is Ephraim & Nancy's daughter Nancy Frances and this is her family. Only problem with that is it shows Fanny's birthplace as Missouri and prior info suggests Virginia.7 |
Death* | Ephraim died. Year 1863 alleged without citation by Mary B Smith's Descendants of Henry Witcher at Genealogy.com. |

M, #690, b. between 1796 and 1810
Birth* | James, son of William Witcher Jr. and Mary "Mollie" Dalton, was born between 1796 and 1810. Scatterlings says 1796, Descendants 1810.2 |
Marriage* | He married Nancy Swanson on 25 November 1822 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Misc. Marriages claims 28 Nov 1823.2,1,3,5 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 20 June 2016 re two persons. James Vincent Witcher (1810-1886) and James Taylor Witcher (aft 1796- ). Find A Grave, which is source I'm using, shows James V. married to Nancy Ann Corn on 23 Nov 1828 in Patrick Co., VA. Descendants shows James T. married to Nancy Corn with 11 children. http://jenkgen.com/Jubilee/Flora/grpf1142.html concurs with the James T. version. Website has potentially a lot to offer or a lot of garbage. Find A Grave shows the issue claimed as James T's by Descendants and Jenkgen as James V's.6 |
