My preliminary research suggests their children were Stanley Dryden (1902-1973, m. Violet E Bellows 1962) and Dallas Donovan Hiestand (1904-1968, m. Leona Mary Guthrie 1936).4,1

Clearly it's our Sadie as her son Stanley was living with them. I can't find Sadie under either Hiestand or Parmenter surname in the 1940 censu.8

Marriage*He married Sophia Heistand, daughter of Martin Heistand and Catherine Andereck, on 18 November 1843 in Crawford Co., Ohio. Eli & Sophia's first child alleged to have been Etta Helm (1844-bef. 1850 census) but I find no proper evidence in support.2,1 
Census1850*Eli and Sophia appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Chatfield Twp., Crawford Co., Ohio, enumerated 19 October 1850, as 31 yo farmer Eli & 30 yo Sophia Helm. Their children Catharine, Joel and Joanna "Anna" were listed as living with them. Ancestry doesn't have this enumeration indexed and when you track it down manually the 'hover' names are off by about 20 rows. It is indexed at FamilySearch.1

Marriage*His first marriage was to Joanna "Anna" Helm, daughter of Eli Helm and Sophia Heistand, on 5 April 1876 at Crawford Co., Ohio. My preliminary research suggests their children were Marilla Rachel (1877-1964, m1 Albert Auck 1895, m2 Guernie Frank Hancock 1921) and Lillian B Shupp (1878-1963, m. James E Lowry 1899).

My preliminary research suggests their children were Chester E (?-?), James Franklin (1881-1925) and Gurney Edward Shupp (1889-1958, m. Bessie M Zaebst Rittenour 1949). I've found no real evidence for Chester but James and Gurney are supported by multiple censuses and other primary records.
     Married 20 years with 3 born & 2 living in 1900 census.6,7
