Birth*Thomas, son of Matthew Mayhew and Alice Barter, was born in 1591 in Tisbury, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. Savage says "early 1591".2,1
BaptismThomas was baptized on 1 April 1593 in Tisbury, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.3
Estate-WillThomas was named an heir in the will of Agnes Mayhew dated 12 January 1606 at England.4
Estate-WillThomas was named an heir in the will of Matthew Mayhew, his father, dated 31 August 1612 at Tisbury, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, receiving forty pounds English.5
Marriage*His first marriage was to Martha Parkhurst before 1621 at England. Savage: "It is indistinct. pronounc. by trdit. that first w. wh. d. in Eng. had been Martha Parkhurst"; Banks is noncommital: "The name of his first wife is not known nor has any clue to the date and place of the marriage been found. Neither is it known when or where she died".1,6
Marriage*Their second marriage was to Jane Galland, daughter of Edward Galland and Agnes Wilmot, before 1632 at England. Mahler points out that Thomas & Jane were married at the time of their arrival in New England, 1632. Savage believes Thomas' second wife was Grace, widow of Thomas Paine of London, and that she was mother of Hannah, Bethia and Mary. He feels this Jane was the wife of son Thomas (1603).7,6,1
Immigration*Thomas immigrated to New England before 6 March 1632. Savage concludes, based on ship arrivals, that he must have been here sometime in 1631. The 6 Mar 1632 date is when he filed a surveyor's report setting out boundary between Watertown "and the new town". Savage says Jane was probably brought to America with her husband Thomas. Banks writes, "presumably taking with him his wife and young son, in 1631, though there is no fact to substantiate the supposed existence of the mother at that date. She may have died before his emigration".8,1
LandDeal*He purchased the island of Martha's Vineyard before 1640.9
Death*Thomas died on 25 March 1682 in Martha's Vineyard, New England. Savage claims he "d. 1681, six days only bef. being 90 yrs. old".10,1
