Occupation* | John was indentured as an apprentice to learn 'the art and mystery of Husbandry' on 15 August 1783 at Truro, Colchester Co., Nova Scotia, Canada. His master and mistress were William and Dolly Putnam. The indenture was for a period of 14 years 8 months.3 |

I have a typed transcript of this will but have been unable to find it online, though working through hundreds of pages in FamilySearch's Nova Scotia Probate Records, 1760-1993 database would probably do the trick.1 |
Death* | John died before 11 August 1837. Probate was started this date. Dewis has documents listing his asssets and belongings.5 |

Elizabeth Witcher Ramsey1
F, #8218, b. 13 November 1803, d. 17 April 1854
Birth* | Elizabeth, daughter of Noten Ramsey and Rachel Witcher, was born on 13 November 1803 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. This date seems suspect given her parents weren't married until 1808. Was Rachel Noton's 2nd wife? I find no marriage record to support that idea.1 |
Census1810 | Elizabeth is probably one of the two females under age 10 listed in the household of her father, Noten Ramsey, in the 1810 Federal Census of Franklin Co., Virginia.4 |
Census1820 | Elizabeth is probably one of the two females age 10 to 15 listed in the household of her father, Noten Ramsey, in the 1820 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.5 |
Marriage* | She married Middleton Meade on 19 December 1820 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Issue per Find A Grave, each with a memorial, were: James Middleton, Sarah Ann, William E., Rachel, Martha Elizabeth, and Lucy W. Meade.6,7 |
Census1850* | Elizabeth and Middleton appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 18, Greenbrier Co., Virginia (now West Virginia), enumerated 18 July 1850, as 55 yo laborer Middleton & 46 yo Elizabeth Mead. Their children James Middleton, Mary A., Rachel, Martha Elizabeth, Meredith and Lucy W. were listed as living with them. This census adds Mary A. and Meredith to the list of issue provided by Find A Grave.8 |
Death* | Elizabeth died on 17 April 1854 in Monroe Co., Virginia (now West Virginia), at age 50. West Virginia didn't become a state until 1863.1 |
Burial* | She was buried at Keaton Cemetery in Greenville, Monroe Co., West Virginia. Headstone photo available at Find A Grave.1 |

George Ennis Ramsey1
M, #8219, b. between 1810 and 1815, d. 1838
Birth* | George, son of Noten Ramsey and Rachel Witcher, was born between 1810 and 1815. Find A Grave's date of 1807 seems highly suspect given his parents weren't married until 1808. He's bracketed in the 15-20 slot in the 1830 census suggesting a birthyear range of 1810-1815. The 1820 census suggests 1810-1820. I'm going with 1810-1815 for now.1,2 |
Census1820 | George is probably the male under age 10 listed in the household of his father, Noten Ramsey, in the 1820 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.3 |
Census1830 | George is probably the male age 15 to 19 listed in the household of his father, Noten Ramsey, in the 1830 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.2 |
