Marriage*He married Mary Blair, daughter of John Blair Sr. and Sally Wade, on 2 September 1834 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina. I'm not entirely convinced this is our Mary Blair. Perhaps had issue Jno T Driskell who m. M S Daniel, and William Archer Driskell who m. Bettie Alice Allgood. The couple is a complete bust in the census record.1

Birth*Sally was born in 1811 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina.2
Marriage*She married Henry W. Blair, son of John Blair Sr. and Sally Wade, on 26 December 1832 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina. This may be bond date rather than marriage date. Three entries in the 1840 census may have been children who died young, or nephews & niece. Their ages were one male 5-9, one female <5 and one male <5. FSTrees claims without citation that Henry m2 Cornelia Lnu.1
Census1840Sally is probably the female age 20 to 29 listed in the household of her husband, Henry W. Blair, in the 1840 Federal Census of Rockingham Co., North Carolina.3
Census1850*Sally and Henry appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Western Div., Rockingham Co., North Carolina, enumerated 8 August 1850, as 39 yo Henry & 39 yo Sarah Blair. Their children Mary, Sarah J. "Sallie", Jeanette and Nancy were listed as living with them.4
Census1860Sally and Henry appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Northern Div., Rockingham Co., North Carolina, enumerated 22 June 1860, as 50 yo Henry & 50 yo Sallie Blair. Their children Sarah J. "Sallie", Jeanette, Nancy, Martha J. and Rachel C. were listed as living with them. Their children 15 yo Sallie, 14 yo Jinetta, 12 yo Nancy, 7 yo Martha and 6 yo Rachel Blair were listed as living with them. This is an unreadable sheet. I'm relying on the extrator's info.5
Census1870Sally and Henry appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Jonesville Twp., Lee Co., Virginia, enumerated 15 July 1870, as 59 yo wagonmaster Henry W & 59 yo Sallie Blair. Their children Sarah J. "Sallie", Nancy, Martha J. and Rachel C. were listed as living with them. In addition to their four children listed here we find 4 yo James H and 2 yo John H Blair. Considering her age it's unlikely they are Sally's children. Perhaps they are grandchildren.2

Birth*John, son of George Blair and Martha Fulton, was born on 10 October 1797 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.1
Census1810John is probably the male under age 10 to 15 listed in the household of his father, George Blair, in the 1810 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee.4
Census1820John is probably the male age 16 to 25 listed in the household of his father, George Blair, in the 1820 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee.5
Census1830John is probably the male age 30 to 39 listed in the household of his father, George Blair, in the 1830 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee.6
ResidenceGeorge and Ralph resided in Dist. 3, Rutherford Co., Tennessee, in 1837, as George, Ralph A, John F, Wm L G, and James W Blair. Each has his own entry in the tax list. George has 281 acres, Ralph 101 acres, John 83 acres, William & James own no acreage but were still taxed.7
Census1850*John appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Gambill Dist., Rutherford Co., Tennessee, enumerated 3 October 1850, as 52 yo farmer Jno F Blair. His mother Martha was living with him as well as 22 yo Joseph Blair, John's grandnephew.2
Census1860John appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Dist. 3, Rutherford Co., Tennessee, as 62 yo Jno F Blair in the household of 58 yo female M M (or W W?) Britain. Five others with Britain surname, likely MM's children, were also in the home: namely, 35 yo Jas, 25 yo C L, 23 yo P, 19 yo J, and 21 yo F Britain. John F was quite wealthy with $22k real estate holdings & $5.1k in personal property. The name Brittain turns up several times as a middle name in the Blair family but I've never found where it came from. Perhaps this is a clue. John had an uncle Samuel Brittain Blair and a 1st cousin Samuel Brittain Blair Jr.8
Census1870John appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Dist. 1, Franklin Co., Tennessee, as 73 yo retired farmer J F Blair in the household of his brother & sister-in-law William L. J. "Little John" Blair and Margaret Williams; as 68 yo farmer W L G & 69 yo Margaret Blair.9
Death*John died on 27 September 1883 in Franklin Co., Tennessee, at age 85.1
Burial*He was buried at Blair Cemetery, Franklin Co., Tennessee. Headstone photo is available at Find A Grave.1
ResearchNote*Research Note of 20 June 2021 re FSTrees. FSTrees has a John Fulton Blair, id no. MN3N-YD7, with 20 sources, but it's not this man. None of the sources cited show the middle name Fulton and only one, the 1850 census, shows the middle initial F. The 1850 is the only source cited which is actually for this person and FSTrees shows two different 1850 enumerations. Our John Fulton Blair never married.

BioNote*Biography Note: Quoting Wikipedia, Colonel Chiswell Dabney Langhorne (November 4, 1843 – February 14, 1919) was an American railroad industrialist. He was the father of Nancy Witcher Langhorne and the maternal grandfather of both Joyce Grenfell and Michael Langhorne Astor.[1]
Langhorne was born in Lynchburg, Virginia at Point of Honor. He was the eldest son of John Scarsbrook Langhorne (who inherited Langhorne Mills in Lynchburg along with the bulk of his father Henry's property) and Sarah Elizabeth Dabney (whose family owned the Edgemont plantation).[2] The family were wealthy planters and slave-owners before the American Civil War.[3] The Confederate General Jeb Stuart was a relative [1].
The Langhorne family lived in greatly reduced circumstances after the war. But, during the next quarter century, "Chilly" made a new fortune working first in the tobacco auctioneering business and then in railroads.[3]
As a young man, Langhorne entered the Confederate Army and served with distinction during the war. Soon after the Civil War, he moved to Danville, Virginia, a major center for bright leaf tobacco. The sale of loose-leaf tobacco by auction on a warehouse floor had originated there just before the Civil War. The practice, which was called the "Danville System", was quickly and widely adopted. It is said that Langhorne originated the auctioneer's fast-talking "chant," which proved very effective at evoking a heightened sense of bidding, and was also copied everywhere.
In 1864, while the Civil War was still in progress, Chiswell Langhorne married sixteen-year-old Nancy Witcher Keene. They had a total of eleven children; eight survived childhood.

In 1885, by which time they had at least six surviving children, he moved his family to Richmond. Through the influence of his wartime commanding officer, he landed a construction contract with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. This was the start of his building a railroad fortune.
By 1892 he had installed his family at Mirador, a colonnaded house in Albemarle County, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
He died in Richmond following an illness of several weeks. In 2006 the Langhorne House in Danville was listed under the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in Virginia.1

Isabella Seix1

F, #6377, b. circa 12 January 1829, d. 10 April 1895
FatherPeter Seix1 b. 1800
MotherSara Andereck1 b. 1805
Last Edited23 May 2023
Birth*Isabella, daughter of Peter Seix and Sara Andereck, was born circa 12 January 1829 in Shenandoah Co., Virginia. Her headstone reads 16 Jan 1895 but her Find A Grave memorial is indexed at 18 Jan. The date would be ca. 12 Jan 1829 if her obit's claim she died 10 Apr 1895 aged 66y 2m 29d is correct. The headstone does confirm 66-2-29.
Isabella's Find A Grave memorial has her maiden name as Sioux which was presumably taken from a marriage record which shows this name. Who would guess Seix or Six could be misinterpreted so many ways?.2,1,3
Census1840Isabella is probably one of the two females age 10 to 14 listed in the household of her father, Peter Seix, in the 1840 Federal Census of Shenandoah Co., Virginia.4
Census1850Isabella appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 58, Shenandoah Co., Virginia in the household of her parents, Peter Seix and Sara Andereck, as 20 yo Isabella Six.1
Marriage*She married David Ross on 13 November 1857 in Shenandoah Co., Virginia. My preliminary research suggests their children were Mary Virginia (1858-1930, m. Geo Edward Dellinger), Benjamin Franklin (1860-1915, m. Emma C Dellinger) and son Ross ( -b1896, died before his mother; missing in 1860-1880 censuses).5,2,6
Census1860Isabella appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Orkney Springs Dist., Shenandoah Co., Virginia, as a neighbor of her father Peter Seix.7
Census1860*Isabella and David appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Orkney Springs Dist., Shenandoah Co., Virginia, enumerated 31 August 1860, as 24 yo farmer David & 31 yo Isabella Ross. Their children 2 yo Mary and 0.4 yo Benjamin Ross were listed as living with them, as well as unknown persons 53 yo Mary Ross & 22 yo Hiram Ross. Isabella's widowed father Peter and three siblings live three doors below.8
Census1870*Isabella appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Madison Twp., Shenandoah Co., Virginia, enumerated 12 July 1870, as 41 yo housekeeper Isabella Ross. Her children 11 yo Mary V and 10 yo Benjamin F Ross were listed as living with her. One other in the home was 23 yo Barbara Six. She could be Isabella's sister but her age should be closer to 36, not 23.9
Census1870Isabella appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Madison Dist., Shenandoah Co., Virginia, as a neighbor of her brother-in-law & sister John A. Hines and Mary E. Seix.10
Census1880Isabella appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Madison Twp., Shenandoah Co., Virginia, as 50 yo widow housekeeper Isabella Ross in the household of her son 20 yo farmer Benjamin Ross.11
Death*Isabella died on 10 April 1895 at at her home in near Conicville, Shenandoah Co., Virginia.2
Burial*She was buried at Christ Reformed Church Cemetery in Conicville, Shenandoah Co., Virginia. Find A Grave provides headstone photo and excerpt from the Shenandoah Herald obit.3

Elizabeth Ann Keen1

FatherCapt. Ashford Keen b. bt 1790 - 1796, d. 15 Nov 1876
MotherElizabeth Edwards
Last Edited21 Sep 2022
Birth*Elizabeth, daughter of Capt. Ashford Keen and Elizabeth Edwards, was born in 1821 in Franklin Co., Virginia. I've found no real evidence that Elizabeth Ann is the d/o Ashford Keen & Elizabeth Edwards. The relationship is alleged without citation in several Ancestry trees. She does fit well in the 1830 census.1
Marriage*She married Dr. John Oglesby Winston Haynes on 2 March 1840 in Franklin Co., Virginia. John's Find A Grave memorial says he m1 Elizabeth Martin on 03 May 1821. Issue per Find A Grave were Elizabeth (1840- ), Elisha Keen (1846- ), William Daniel (1847- ), Stephen Lewis (1856- ) and John Thomas (1863- ) Haynes. Elisha and William have their own Find A Grave memorials. Sons Stephen and John are living with their parents in both the 1870 & 1880 censuses. Their brother William D Haynes and family live next door in 1880. Another daughter Nannie Oglesby Haynes (1844-1940) is confirmed by her death certificate which names both her parents.2,3
Death*Elizabeth died in 1904 in Penhook, Franklin Co., Virginia.1
Burial*She was buried at Haynes Family Cemetery in Penhook, Franklin Co., Virginia. Find A Grave provides photo of her headstone.1
