Jacob Vandegrift II1
M, #2242, b. circa 1716, d. before 14 October 1773
Birth* | Jacob, son of Jacob Vandegrift Sr., was born circa 1716 in New Castle Co., Pennsylvania Colony (now Delaware), New England. Not certain the DE Vitals is for this man but it seems likely and fits other knowns. FSTrees (entry for Jacobus Vandergrift (1720-1775), ID no. LBMQ-P9Z) claims birth ca. 1820 in Bensalem, citing only his father's will, which likely has nothing to do with these two data points.4,3 |
Estate-Will | In an unknown person 's will of 12 April 1750, Jacob Vandegrift II was named co-executor; sons Leonard and Jacob being named executors. Another son Christian and daughters Ann and Elizabeth were also named. Three other unnamed children were simply listed as daughters. Francis King III1,2
M, #2246, b. between 1750 and 1755, d. from 13 November 1830 to 8 January 1832
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 3 February 2025 re wives & issue. King writes, "Francis King III was apparently married at least 3 times and had perhaps as many as 17 children although the names of only 7 are known for certain (some of the other 10 may have died before adulthood). See King for a lot more information.4 |
Birth* | Francis, son of Francis King II, was born between 1750 and 1755.5,6 |
OathAllegiance* | Francis took an oath of allegiance to the United States at Delaware on 17 August 1778.5 |
CensusNF2 | Francis is probably one of the two males over 18 listed in the household of his father, Francis King II, in the 1782 Census of Saint Georges Hundred, New Castle Co., Delaware.6 |
Estate-Will | Francis was named an heir in the will of Francis King II, his father, dated 3 January 1794 at Saint Georges Hundred, New Castle Co., Delaware, receiving a suit of clothes, one cow, one horse, and discharge of his debts to his father.7,2,1 |
Marriage | His first marriage was to Susanna Chick(?) before 7 September 1796. King writes, Francis King III's wife before 1800 was named "Susanna" as suggested in a Cecil Co., Md. deed dated 7 Sept 1796 (Cecil Co., Md. Deed Book 19, p. 581). It noted that "Francis King and his wife Susanna, of Appoquinimink Hundred in New Castle Co., Del." sold for 30 pounds their interest in the land of Nathaniel Chick of Cecil Co., Md. Their interest was due to Susanna's being a daughter of one of the devisees named in Chickk's will which was written in Cecil Co., Md. on 8 Mar 1777. My preliminary research suggests their children may have been, Ann King ( m. Fnu Levirnge, res. NCC in 1832), Rachel King (, m. Fnu Pugh, res. Cecil Co., MD 1832), and Elizabeth King (c1785-1860, m. John Biddle Price, res. Cecil Co., MD 1832; had issue Lewis, Mary, Elizabeth (m. Thos Vandyke), David K, Thomas, John and William Price; see King ch. 47).4 |
Marriage* | His third marriage was to Henrietta? Lnu before 1831. See King for explanation of this possible marriage.8 |
Death* | Francis died from 13 November 1830 to 8 January 1832 in Cecil Co., Maryland. His will of 13 Nov 1830 was presented in court this date for probate.4 |

Isaac King1
M, #2247, b. between 1750 and 1770, d. after 4 May 1805
Birth* | Isaac, son of Francis King II, was born between 1750 and 1770. He is likely the male over 18 yo in his father's census enumeration of 1782.3,4 |
CensusNF2 | Isaac is probably the male under 18 listed in the household of his father, Francis King II, in the 1782 Census of Saint Georges Hundred, New Castle Co., Delaware.4 |
TaxList* | Isaac King appeared on a tax assessment of Saint Georges Hundred, New Castle Co., Pennsylvania (now Delaware), New England, enumerated on 27 November 1782, with an assessment of £6. Francis, Leonard, Peter and Isaac King appear in sequential order.5 |
Estate-Will | Isaac was named executor and an heir in the will of Francis King II, his father, dated 3 January 1794 at Saint Georges Hundred, New Castle Co., Delaware, receiving all his lands, ex the third given to his wife.6,1,7 |
Marriage* | He married Joanna Haughey, daughter of Marinus Haughey and Rachel Lnu, before 10 April 1794. King's writes, "Isaac King married prior to 10 Apr 1794 to his cousin Joanna Haughey, dau. of Marinus Haughey (#152,21) and his wife Rachel (see CHAPTER 45 for data on them). Their marriage is known to have been prior to 10 Apr 1794 as on that date Isaac and Joanna were named as heirs of Marinus Haughey in a New Castle County, Delaware Chancery Case ( #R3) involving a petition to define the boundaries of her late father's land". Isaac and Joanna were 1st cousins once removed. My preliminary research suggests their children were definitely Francis King (1784-1806), and probably Isaac () and Rachel King (); their grandchildren, sons of Francis, were John King () and Francis King (b1806-a1814).3 |
Death* | Isaac died after 4 May 1805. Issac and Joanna sold land in Appoquinimink Hundred to Michael Bright and John Diehl on 24 May 1804. On 04 May 1805 Isaac purchsed land in New Castle County from Isaac and Christiana Devore.8,9,3 |
