Anna Ball1,2

F, #2529, b. circa 1725
Last Edited12 Feb 2025
Birth*Anna was born circa 1725, d/o John Ball of Watertown by his first wife, Abigail Harrington. Hibner writes, "In his will, dated Jan. 9, proved Feb. 3, 1756, he mentions his daughter Anna, wife of Eben Bartlett, of Newton".1
Marriage*She married Ebenezer Bartlett, son of Joseph Bartlett Jr. and Hannah Lnu, on 29 August 1745 in Boston, Suffolk Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Ann's father John Ball mentioned his daughter Anna, wife of Eben Bartlett, in his will of 9 Jan 1756.3,4
ResearchNote*Research Note re whose wife really? Hibner says Ann Ball was Ebenezer's wife and cites her father's will as evidence. Find A Grave has a memorial (40384942) for a different Anna, wife of Enoch Bartlett. She was allegedly born in 1768 in Maine, died in 1868 in Maine. A wife 43 years older than her husband who lived another 80 years after his death makes it pretty clear this is a different woman regardless of the link to an alleged husband.4

Marriage*She married Daniel Vincent Jr., son of Daniel Vincent and Hannah Smith, after 7 June 1827. This marriage took place in the interval between Hester's father's will (7 Jun 1827 - he refers to her as Hester Ann Ellis) and 1850 (marriage implied though not stated explicitly).1,7,2
Census1830Hester is probably the female age 15 to 19 listed in the household of her husband, Daniel Vincent Jr., in the 1830 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio.5
Census1840Hester is probably the female age 20 to 29 listed in the household of her husband, Daniel Vincent Jr., in the 1840 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio.11
Census1850*Hester and Daniel appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Green, Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 1 June 1850, as 43 yo hatter Daniel & 25(?) yo Hester A Vincent. Their children Perwilla Gray, Clarissa Pike, Tyler Harrison, Winfield Scott and Martha Jane "Mattie" were listed as living with them.12
Estate-WillHester was named an heir in the will of Catherine Lnu, her mother, dated 11 March 1851 at Hamilton Co., Ohio, one-third of the proceeds of specified land sales.1,13,14

Census1870Winfield appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of 19th Ward, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, as 26 yo street car conductor Winfield Vincent in the household of 46 yo boarding house keeper Sarah Ashton. The 1870 makes no distinction for widowed persons.10

Living with the family is a servant, Caroline Becker. There is a granddaughter listed, Hessie Vincent. My speculation is that Winfield had been married previously that Hessie is his daughter, and that sometime after the census Winfield married Caroline. Burress, in her Shiloh Methodist Cemetery section, shows a Daniel Vincent, d. 1884, son of "W.S. and C.S." This may be an unlisted son of this couple, born and died shortly after their marriage.5,13,14,15

Birth*Perwilla, daughter of Daniel Vincent Jr. and Hester Ann Ellis, was born circa 1831 in Hamilton Co., Ohio. Craig & Ancestry Profiles both say ca. 1831. The 1850 Federal Census suggests ca. 1831, Whitt & death record say she died age 67, meaning ca. 1828. Regardless, it's unlikely that Hester is her mother unless we have Hester's birthday significantly later than it really was. Daniel clearly calls her his daughter in his will. However no wife prior to Hester Ann has ever been suggested. Headstone says 1825.3,4,5,2,6
Census1840Perwilla is probably the female age 5 to 9 listed in the household of her father, Daniel Vincent Jr., in the 1840 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio.7
Census1850Perwilla appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Green, Hamilton Co., Ohio in the household of her parents, Daniel Vincent Jr. and Hester Ann Ellis, as 19 yo Perwillia Vincent.8
Marriage*She married Tobias Dubois on 26 November 1854 in Hamilton Co., Ohio. She is Perwilla G. Dubois in her father's will of 1878.9,1
Census1860Perwilla and Tobias appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of New Haven Twp., Huron Co., Ohio, enumerated 10 July 1860, as 32 yo farmer Tobias & 28 yo Perilla Dubois. Their children Eva Loretta and Addie E. were listed as living with them, as well as two domestics and two laborers.10
Census1870Perwilla and Tobias appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Williamsburg Twp., Clermont Co., Ohio, enumerated 18 June 1870, as 42 yo farmer Tobias & 38 yo Pewillia Dubins. Their children Eva Loretta, Addie E., Scott McClellen "Mack" and Daniel E. were listed as living with them.11
Estate-WillPerwilla was named an heir in the will of Daniel Vincent Jr., her father, dated 27 April 1878 at Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, to receive the family farm after the death of her mother Margaret K Vincent.12,1
Census1880*Perwilla and Tobias appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Williamsburg Twp., Clermont Co., Ohio, enumerated 8 June 1880, as 52 yo farmer Tobias & 48 yo wife Penvilla G Dubois. Their son Scott McClellen "Mack" was listed as living with them, as well as three boarders and one servant.13
Death*Perwilla died on 18 October 1895 in Williamsburg, Clermont Co., Ohio. Cause of death was consumption (tuberculosis). She is listed as "Berwilla" on the death record. Whitt claims 13 October.4,6
Burial*She was buried at Williamsburg Cemetery in Williamsburg Twp., Clermont Co., Ohio.3,6,5

Hepzibah Brotherton1

F, #2550, d. before 1667
Last Edited22 Feb 2025
Marriage*She married John Daggett before 1626 in England. Hepzibah signed as a witness on 3 Mar 1660 as Hepzibah Daggett; marriage year is based on birth year of first child listed in Banks; this means Hepzibah & John married in England.2
BioNote*Biography Note of before 1626: Banks writes, "Of his (John Daggett) first wife we know nothing definite, but the author is of the opinion that the Hepzibah Daggett who signed as witness March 3, 1660, to the sale of the "Farm" from Wampamag to John Daggett was then his wife. Banks footnotes, "A guess may be hazarded that her maiden name was Brotherton. This appears as a baptismal name in the Thomas Daggett branch as early as 1686, and is used in the Joseph Daggett branch after the intermarriage with Thomas Martin in 1715. Brotherton Martin continued as a family name in Nova Scotia, whither this branch emigrated, until recent years. Hester Brotherton was a passenger for Virginia in the Transport in 1635."
