William Wethers1

M, #10136, b. between 1808 and 1810
Last Edited24 Oct 2022
Birth*William was born between 1808 and 1810 in Indiana Territory, alleged s/o John Weathers & Rachel Potter. The 'correct' spelling of his surname, if there is one, is unclear - whether Weathers or Wethers.
Lewis & Melling claims his middle name is Daniel and lists 11 source citations. None of them mention the middle name Daniel or even a middle initial D. The Lewis & Melling tree at Ancestry shows a birthdate of 20 March 1808, again without citation.2,3
Marriage*He married Mary Downey, daughter of Richard B. Downey and Phebe Mulford, on 28 March 1844 in Dearborn Co., Indiana. There's a second entry in the same Indiana, Marriages, 1810-2001 database with date of 22 March. Likely 22nd was the license and 28th the wedding. The one I've cited specifically says it was the marriage.1,4
Census1850*William and Mary appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Div. 2, Ohio Co., Indiana, enumerated 19 September 1850, as 40 yo farmer William & 25 yo Mary Wethers. Their children Mary, Harriet, Hamilton C. "Ham", Jesse, Hannah and Matilda were listed as living with them. Daughter Mary is likely from a prior marriage of William's or else a niece or sister. I've entered her as a daughter for now.2
Census1860William and Mary appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Brown Co., Indiana, enumerated 30 June 1860, as 52 yo William & 39 yo Mary Wethers. Their children Mary, Harriet, Hannah, Hamilton C. "Ham", Matilda, Preston Charles, William Irving, Sarah and James were listed as living with them.5
