BioNote* | Biography Note: From his bio in his Find A Grave memorial: SAMUEL ALLEN6 COE (Abraham5, William4, John3, Richard2, Richard1 ) was born September 26, 1846, in Morrow County, OH. He spent his boyhood near where he was born, then about 1870 he went to Johnson County, KS, where he bought and improved some land and operated it threshing machine. In 1873 he returned to Ohio, settling near Gilead Station, where he purchased 15 1/2 acres from A.R. Runyan, April 3. There he formed a partnership with a Mr. Johnson, a Mr. Collins and a Mr. Wentsels, opening a lumber business in Gilead Station. After eighteen months he left the partnership and, along with an associate, opened a grocery at Mt. Gilead known as the "Bowen & Coe Grocery." After three years he returned to Gilead Station where he opened a hardware business under the name "Coe Bros. & Company." He lived at Edison, OH, during his last years.7 |
