Birth*Silas, son of Samuel Barns and Mary Bartlett, was born on 28 June 1762 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. I'm showing MA Vitals' date. His Find A Grave memorial says simply 1761. The headstone is unreadable.2,3,4
Marriage*He married Mehetabel Kendreck on 6 July 1784. My preliminary research suggests their children were Acsah Barns (1785-1843), Polly Barns (1789-1828), Dexter Barns (1791-1860), and Anna Barns (1793-1855).
     The Knowlton Genealogy claims that Silas's surname was Knowlton, that he was s/o Thomas and Jane (Carter) Knowlton, that he m. Mehitable Kendricks, and that their children were Achsah, Polly, Dexter, Anna and Silas B Knowlton. No sources were cited that I could find.5,6,3,7
Death*Silas died on 15 October 1826 at age 64.4
Burial*He was buried at Pleasantville Cemetery, Chautauqua Co., New York. Find A Grave provides headstone photo.4

Marriage*She married Jason Barns, son of Moses Barns Jr. and Lydia Bartlett, on 7 September 1800. Hibner writes, "pub. to Polly Hill", rather than "m.". Probably means banns or bond, rather than an actual marriage record.1

Joanna Perkins1

F, #1349, b. 10 August 1755, d. 17 January 1844
Last Edited27 Feb 2025
Birth*Joanna was born on 10 August 1755 in Java, Wyoming Co., New York. Joanna's affadavit in "Revolutionary War Pension Apps" says she was 81 yo on 10 Aug 1836. The location of Java, NY is per the Stanley Bartlett SAR app. Her headstone says aged 88y 6m at death which is close but not exact.
     Joanna further states that her sister was Lydia Peck who lived in Amherst when Joanna and Aaron were married.2,3,1,4
Residence*Joanna resided in Amherst, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, on 25 November 1775.5
Marriage*She married Cpl. Aaron Bartlett, son of Joseph Bartlett Sr. and Sarah Jennings, on 25 November 1775 in Shutesbury, Franklin Co., Massachusetts, by Rev. M. Hill.
Four additional children are listed in "Aaron of Brookfield". They are,
     Perkins Bartlett (1790-1850;
     Ira A Bartlett (1791-1879, m. bro Ransom's widow Susan Conrad 1834);
     Asa Bartlett (1793- ) and
     Ransom Bartlett (1796-1833, m. Susan Conrad 1825; 4 kids in Nellie).
One other not shown in "Aaron of Brookfield" is,
     Solomon Bartlett (1796-b1849), an alleged twin with Ransom.
The evidence that Perkins Bartlett is in fact the son of Cpl. Aaron & Sarah Jennings is sketchy. He m. Clarisa E Palmer and had,
     Clarissa P "Clara" Bartlett (1810-1856), m. Hiram Loomis;
     Sarah A Bartlett (1815-1871), m. Japheth Cross;
     Ransom Bartlett (1819-1847);
     Lurancy Bartlett (1823-1920), m. Fnu King; and
     Maria L Bartlett (1825-1907), m. Robert R Beecher.
Likewise the evidence that Ira A Bartlett is the son of Cpl. Aaron & Sarah Jennings also weak. He m. Susan Patty Conrad and had,
     Amanda Bartlett (c1807- );
     Ransom O Bartlett (1833-1879);
     Uriah Leland Bartlett (1835-1844);
     Orin Bartlett (c1837- );
     Ira Bartlett Jr (1839-1910);
     Susan Bartlett (1841-1899);
     Henry Clay Bartlett (1843-1923);
     Ione Bartlett (1846- ); and
     Frank Wood Bartlett (c1852-1930).2,1
Census1790Joanna is probably one of the four females listed in the household of Cpl. Aaron Bartlett, in the 1790 Federal Census of Salem, Washington Co., New York.6,7
ResidenceJoanna resided in Eaton, Madison Co., New York, on 29 March 1837.2
Death*Joanna died on 17 January 1844 in Java, Wyoming Co., New York, at age 88. Find A Grave provides NO headstone photo but shows inscription as "Age 88 years 6 months, Wife of Aaron".3,4
Burial*She was buried at Punkshire Cemetery in Punkshire Corners, Wyoming Co., New York. Find A Grave provides NO headstone photo but does show inscription as "Age 88 years 6 months, Wife of Aaron". Joanna is the only one currently in Find A Grave for this cemetery with surname Bartlett.8
