Marriage*She married Albert Preston Butler on 18 November 1880 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. My preliminary research suggests their children were Mattie M (1881- ), Edna E (c1884- ), Lula Lea (1885-1962), William Ralph (1886-1963), Jack Shepherd (1893-1935, m. Ethel Ingram 1917 Pittsylvania Co), Mary Bessie (1894-1919), and Eugene T Butler (c1896- , m. Annie Atkins 1920 Danville).8,9,10,1
ResearchNote*Research Note of 12 November 2021 re separation, divorce, or death? The sources point to the marriage of Sarah and Preston having ended before the census of 12 Jun 1900. In the 1900 and 1910 censuses Sarah is listed as a widow. That would suggest Preston had died. Yet we find Preston's death certificate which says he died a widower on 14 May 1917 while Sarah was clearly still living.
Preston's death certificate shows his parents as William F Butler & Katheren Brown. That matches Find A Grave's claim which references The Heritage of Caswell County, North Carolina, Jeannine D. Whitlow, Editor (1985), pp. 138-139, "Family of Jefferson Davis Butler" by Iola B. Murphy.)11,12,13

Census1900*Sarah appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Dan River Magisterial Dist., Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, enumerated 12 June 1900, as 43 yo widow Sarah E Butler. Sarah shows 7 born with 7 living and they're all in the house. Sons and daughters include 18 yo Mattie M, 16 yo Edna E, 15 yo Lula L, 12 yo William R, 10 yo Jack S, 7 yo Mary B, and 4 yo Eugene T Butler.11
Census1910Sarah appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Dan River Magisterial Dist., Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, enumerated 21 April 1910, as 53 yo widow Sarah E Butler. Her children 24 yo Edna, 16 yo Bessie, and 14 yo Eugene Butler were listed as living with her. She still shows 7 born and 7 living.12
Census1920Sarah appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Dan River Dist., Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, enumerated 23 January 1920, as 64 yo widow Sara E Butler. Her children 36 yo Edna and 23 yo Eugene Butler were listed as living with her.14
Census1930Sarah appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Dan River Dist., Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, enumerated 8 April 1930, as 73 yo widow Sarah E Butler. Her 46 yo single daughter Edna Butler was listed as living with her.15
Death*Sarah died on 3 October 1930 in Dan River Magisterial Dist., Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, at age 74, of 'mitral regurgitation of heart'.16,1
Burial*She was buried at Blair Family Cemetery in Keeling, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.1

Birth*Albert was born on 11 February 1854 in North Carolina.2
Marriage*He married Sarah Elizabeth Blair, daughter of Ralph E. Blair and Elizabeth Robertson, on 18 November 1880 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. My preliminary research suggests their children were Mattie M (1881- ), Edna E (c1884- ), Lula Lea (1885-1962), William Ralph (1886-1963), Jack Shepherd (1893-1935, m. ResearchNoteResearch Note of 12 November 2021. See Albert's wife Sarah.7,8,9
Death*Albert died on 14 May 1917 in Danville, Virginia, at age 63. A case can be made for a death date in the range 1896-1901. Wife Sarah claims to be a widow in the 1900 census and her youngest child is 4 yo suggesting Albert was still alive ca 1896. I'm going with Preston's (or the man who appears to be Preston) death certificate date.9,7,2
Burial*He was buried at Green Hill Cemetery in Danville, Virginia.2

ResearchNote*Research Note of 2 February 2025 re possible wife & child. There are records showing a Jason Bartlett married to Ann or Anna. FS (LQ5D-716) claims her surname was Barnard but offers no citation. There's a record for a Mary Bartlett, d/o Jason and Anna, but again nothing to tie that into our Jason.

FatherMoses Bartlett1 b. 3 Mar 1723/24, d. 5 Apr 1794
MotherMary Bell1

Birth*Bartholomew, son of Moses Bartlett and Mary Bell, was born on 22 April 1749 in Ware, Hampshire Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. MA Town Clerk says he was born in Ware, Hampshire County. Hibner, Brookfield and Town & Vital say Brookfield. MA Births says the christening was in Brookfield.2,3,4,1,5
ResearchNoteResearch Note of 2 February 2025 re followup. Hibner says, "prob. the one found in Salem, N.Y., in 1790, and a Revolutionary soldier". If so the 1790 and 1800 censuses are easily found and there are many Rev. War records available.5

ResearchNote*Research Note of 2 February 2025 re online claims. Both Ancestry's Scott Family Tree #1 and FamilySearch Trees entry K85X-Q1B claim Bartholomew married Elizabeth Howard Webb. Their children in one or both include William, Mary, Hugh, Martha, Leonard Webb, Elizabeth (Betsey), Lydia and David Bartlett. Neither tree provides one bit of evidence for these claims.6
