Marriage*He married Sarah Jennings on 22 December 1743 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Three children in my list are not mentioned by Nellie Bartlett in "Aaron of Brookfield". She lists only the sons of Joseph & Sarah.7,8,9
Milit-Service*Joseph Bartlett Sr. served with Capt. Nathaniel Wolcott's company during the French & Indian (Seven Years) War around 9 August 1757. He was with Capt. Wolcott when he marched to the relief of Fort William Henry on Lake George, New York.10
LandDeal*He sold his farm to Zebulon Rice in 1768.11
Estate-WillJoseph was named an heir in the will of Thomas Bartlett, his father, dated 20 June 1770 at Brookfield, Worcester Co., Massachusetts Bay Colony, New England, receiving one-fifth of his personal estate.12
Census1790*Joseph appeared on the 1790 Federal Census of Salem, Washington Co., New York, with a household listed as 20200 as over 16 yo male Joseph Bartlett. His wife Sarah is likely one of the two females. Identities of the other male and female are unknown.
The enumerations directly below Joseph's are Aaron Bartlett (1-3-4), then Joseph Bartlett Jr (1-0-1.)13
Estate-Will*Joseph Bartlett Sr. left a will dated 19 August 1795 at Salem, Washington Co., New York, appointing Joshua Bartlett & Theodore Barns as executors.      Grandsons Gedion and Henry received lands in "lower Canada".14,15
Death*Joseph died from 19 August 1795 to 13 October 1795 in Washington Co., New York, date range based on dates of his will and administration of same. WikiTree claims ca 1825, which makes little sense given he'd have been 105 years old.15
Estate-AdminHis administration of estate began on 13 October 1795 at Washington Co., New York.16

MotherMary Bartlett3,1 b. 6 May 1701, d. 15 Jan 1751
Last Edited20 Feb 2025
ResearchNote*Research Note of 1 February 2025 re military record. MA Soldiers & Sailors (S635) lists an Aaron from Palmer (also given Brookfield) serving in Rev. War from 1 Jan 1777 to 31 Dec 1779. Serving at Valley Forge. "Continental Army pay accounts for service from Jan. 1, 1780, to Feb. 12, 1780." Is this same guy? He'd be rather old, but is only Aaron currently in dB. Or is this Amos Aaron 373? Fits better there, but Hibner makes no mention of a military record for AA.

Birth*Aaron, son of Thomas Bartlett and Mary Bartlett, was born on 28 October 1721 in Brookfield, (now Worcester Co.), Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England.3,5
Marriage*He married Hannah Jennings on 31 January 1745 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Aaron's FamilySearch Trees entry (L4QJ-YTG) alleges a daughter, Nancy J Bartlett (1746-1831) but no supporting evidence is given.6,7
Milit-Service*Aaron Bartlett served as corporal with Capt. Nathaniel Wolcott's Company during the French & Indian War (Seven Years War) in 1757. He was with Capt. Wolcott when he marched 9 August to the relief of Fort William Henry (southern end of Lake George, Province of New York). The fort had fallen to French and Indian forces before they arrived, so the British forces returned having been out 16 days. Others of Bartlett surname in Capt. Wolcott's Company were Adoniram, Joseph, Matthew, and Nathaniel - the first three likely brothers of Aaron.2,8
Estate-WillAaron was named an heir in the will of Thomas Bartlett, his father, dated 20 June 1770 at Brookfield, Worcester Co., Massachusetts Bay Colony, New England, receiving five shillings.9
CensusLead*A person who might be Aaron appeared on the 1790 censusat Granby, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, as Aaron Bartlett with an enumeration of 1-1-4. This per Hibner.10
Death*Aaron died after 20 June 1770, date based on his father's will naming him an heir this date.11

Moses Bartlett1

MotherMary Bartlett2,1 b. 6 May 1701, d. 15 Jan 1751
Last Edited8 Feb 2025
Birth*Moses, son of Thomas Bartlett and Mary Bartlett, was born on 3 March 1723/24 in Brookfield, (now Worcester Co.), Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England.2,4
ResearchNote*Research Note of 2 February 2025 re possible m1. Connnecticut Town Marriages has a record for a Lydia Fisk who m. Rev. Moses Bartlet on 08 Jan 1734/35. Rev. Moses has a Find A Grave memorial with lifespan years of 1709-1766, which clearly is not our Moses. I don't find our Moses anywhere but Massachusetts in the timeframe before and after 1734 so am fairly certain Rev. Moses is a different man.5

Marriage*He married Mary Bell on 8 June 1744 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England.6,7,8
Estate-WillMoses was named an heir in the will of Thomas Bartlett, his father, dated 20 June 1770 at Brookfield, Worcester Co., Massachusetts Bay Colony, New England, receiving all his cordwainer goods of every sort.9
CensusLead*A person likely to be Moses appeared on the 1790 censusat Salem, Washington Co., New York, as Moses Bartlett with his brother Joseph and son Bartholomew. This per Hibner.8
Death*Moses died on 5 April 1794 at age 70. Hibner writes, "he is probably the one found at Salem, NY, in the Census of 1790, with his brother Joseph and son Bartholomew".10,8
ResearchNoteResearch Note of 2 February 2025 re possible Rev War service. Lots of records for a Moses Bartlet serving in the Revolution but nothing that ties those records to this man. He's have been 52 yo in 1776 which pushes believability.
His FS entry (L21D-PJW) shows a lifespan of 1724-1800. This is plausible. The only source for the 05 Apr 1794 death date is a DAR application, hardly a gold-plated source.

"The History of N. Brookfield says he (Wyman) was drafted into the Revolutionary army, but being of non age, his father went in his stead and was taken sick, returned home and died in a month." This obviously makes no sense if Hibner's birthyear and the Soldiers & Sailors records are correct. Tinnesz makes the same assertion.7,8,9

Adoniram Bartlett1

M, #435, b. 10 September 1735, d. 23 September 1805
FatherThomas Bartlett2,1 b. 26 Jul 1697, d. 7 Dec 1774
MotherMary Bartlett2,1 b. 6 May 1701, d. 15 Jan 1751
Last Edited22 Nov 2024
Birth*Adoniram, son of Thomas Bartlett and Mary Bartlett, was born on 10 September 1735 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Bartlett claims 16 September.2,3,4
Milit-Service*Adoniram Bartlett served with Capt. Nathaniel Wolcott's Company during the French & Indian War from September 1756 to August 1757. He enlisted in Sept. 1775 under Col. John Murray. He was with Capt. Wolcott when they marched Aug. 9, 1757 to the relief of Fort William Henry.5
Marriage*He married Miriam Marsh on 4 February 1761 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Brookfield records show only intents of November 1760.5,6,4
Move*Adoniram and Miriam moved their residence from Brookfield to Conway, Franklin County circa 1768.5
Estate-WillAdoniram was named an heir in the will of Thomas Bartlett, his father, dated 20 June 1770 at Brookfield, Worcester Co., Massachusetts Bay Colony, New England, receiving half of his husbandry tools of every sort, plus one-half of three-fifths of his personal estate.7
Census1790Adoniram appeared on the 1790 Federal Census of Conway, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, with a household listed as 22600 as 16+ yo Adoniram Bartlett. His wife Miriam and children Miriam, Sarah, Hannah, Lydia, Luther, and Adoniram are probably the people enumerated with him. There's one female unaccounted for. For males I'm guessing the two youngest are still with the parents.8
Census1800*Adoniram appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Conway, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, with a household listed as 11001-01001 as >45 yo Adoniram Bartlet. A challenging enumeration but as it's on same page as sons Amos, Calvin and Samuel there's no doubt this is the right person. The female 10-15 and male 0-9 are both currently unclear, though there are many possibilities in the grandchild arena.9
Estate-Will*Adoniram Bartlett left a will dated 11 May 1805 at Conway, Hampshire (now Franklin) Co., Massachusetts.10
Death*Adoniram died on 23 September 1805 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, at age 70, 'suddenly, dropsy' per Congregational Church record. Hibner claims Conway but NEHGS clearly says a death recorded does not signify the location of death.11,4,5

Sarah Jennings1,2

F, #441, b. circa 1723, d. after 9 December 1761
Last Edited27 Feb 2025
Birth*Sarah was born circa 1723, date estimated. There's a fair chance the birth record for Sarah Jennings, d/o Ephraim & Deliverance Jennings, in MA Town and Vital is this woman. Born 28 Sep 1724.
The Anders-Bartlett tree at FS claims her parents were Jonathan & Joanna Jennings and her lifespan was 1723-1813. No evidence in support of any of those claims.1,3
Marriage*She married Joseph Bartlett Sr., son of Thomas Bartlett and Mary Bartlett, on 22 December 1743 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Three children in my list are not mentioned by Nellie Bartlett in "Aaron of Brookfield". She lists only the sons of Joseph & Sarah.4,5,6
Death*Sarah died after 9 December 1761. This was birthdate of her last child listed in Hibner.7
Census1790Sarah is probably one of the two females listed in the household of Joseph Bartlett Sr., in the 1790 Federal Census of Salem, Washington Co., New York.8
Estate-WillSarah was named an heir in the will of Joseph Bartlett Sr., her husband, dated 19 August 1795 at Salem, Washington Co., New York, receiving "all and every article of what I shall die possessed of to use and enjoy during her natural life."9,10

Mary Bell1

Last Edited2 Feb 2025
Birth*Mary was born. Hibner writes, "Her parentage has naot been ascertained (see Hist. North Brookfield, p. 524). The date 05 Oct 1729 shows up frequently at Ancestry and FS trees but always without citation. The date of 19 Mar 1721 is only on a DAR application.1,2
Marriage*She married Moses Bartlett, son of Thomas Bartlett and Mary Bartlett, on 8 June 1744 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England.3,4,1
Death*Mary died in Northampton, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts. There's a death record in MA Deaths & Burials, 1795-1910, for a Mary Bartlett, wife of Moses, who died 17 Mar 1833. Our Mary would have been 111 years old. Definitely someone else.5

Birth*Rebecca was born on 29 February 1736, d/o Benjamin and Persis (Potter) Adams. Hibner's is 29 Feb, a leap day. The year 1736 was in fact a leap year. Find A Grave's date is 28 Feb.1,2
Marriage*She married 2nd Lt. Obediah Bartlett, son of Thomas Bartlett and Mary Bartlett, on 9 May 1753 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Rebecca m2 Lieut. John Muzzey (1769-1829) of Spencer, on 2 Oct 1786. Find A Grave's marriage year is 1750.3,4,5
Death*Rebecca died on 16 September 1807 in Spencer, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, at age 71. Again Hibner and Find A Grave disagree. Hibner says 16 Sep. Find A Grave says 15 Sep even with photo manipulation.1,2
Burial*She was buried at Old Spencer Cemetery in Spencer, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. Find A Grave provides headstone photo but it's completely illegible.2

Moses Barns Jr.1

M, #450, b. 9 June 1748, d. 22 February 1835
Last Edited20 Feb 2025
Birth*Moses was born on 9 June 1748, s/o Moses and Hannah (Olds) Barns.1
Marriage*He married Lydia Bartlett, daughter of Thomas Bartlett and Mary Bartlett, in January 1770 in Brookfield, Worcester Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Moses m2 Mary Sessions. Her Find A Grave memorial is no. 129561239.2,1
Census1790Moses appeared on the 1790 Federal Census of Brookfield, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, with a household listed as 12300 as 16+ yo Moses Barnes. His wife Lydia and children Lydia, Huldah, Jason, and Moses are probably the people enumerated with him. A perfect fit!3
Census1800*Moses appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Brookfield, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, with a household listed as 00201-10101 as >45 yo Moses Barnes Jr. Moses and Lydia are right on. After that it's pretty speculative. Huldah is most likely the female 16-25. Of the two males 16-25 the possibilities are her brothers Jason and Moses, and her husband, John Jacobs. The two kids <10 are likely John and Huldah's. At this time I have no way to prove or disprove any of this.4
Census1810Moses appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Brookfield, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, with a household listed as 00001-10001 as >45 yo Moses Barnes. Moses and Lydia are perfect. The female <10 is unidentified.5
Death*Moses died on 22 February 1835 at age 86.1
