Leonard Bartlett1

FatherBartholomew Bartlett1
Last Edited28 Nov 2024
Birth*Leonard, son of Bartholomew Bartlett, was born circa 1788 in Ohio.2,1
Marriage*He married Sarah Ann Bartlett, daughter of Abner Bartlett and Obedience Mix, before 1830. Find A Grave writes, In 1830 census of Morris Twp., Knox Co., Ohio no children listed. In 1840 Census of Brown Twp., Knox Co., 6-7 children listed...The oldest son of Sarah Ann & Leonard Bartlett was John.3,4,5
Census1830Leonard appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Morris Twp., Knox Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 00001-0001 as 20-29 yo Leonard Bartlett. Wife Sarah is the female 15-19 slot. Leonard is two brackets too young!6
Census1840*Leonard appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Brown Twp., Knox Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 310001-110001 as 30-39 yo L. M. Ballitt (Bartlett). His wife Sarah is likely the female 30-39, son John 5-9, dau Helen 5-9, sons George & James <5 and dau Mary <5 yo.
A mess. Leonard is two brackets too young! Sarah Ann is one bracket too old. There's an extra male <5 yo. It's interesting that there's a William Parrish several doors down, very possibly Sarah's future husband.7
Death*Leonard died before 4 October 1849. On this date wife Sarah Ann married William Parrish. While a divorce is possible it's unlikely.4

Margaret K. Murphy1,2,3,4

F, #2693, b. May 1806, d. 1903
Last Edited1 Apr 2023
Birth*Margaret was born in May 1806 in Ohio. The 1880 Federal suggests ca. 1806 , Pioneers cites their extract of the 1900 US census of Delhi Twp; our extract of the 1860 shows her age as 34 (54?).1,5,6
Marriage*She married Daniel Vincent Jr., son of Daniel Vincent and Hannah Smith, circa 1855. Date assumed because Margaret is Daniel's wife in the 1860 Census, but Hester Ann is still his wife in the 1850; Pioneers mistakenly claims that Archelaus, Tyler H., Winfield S., Perwilla, Clarissa, and Mary Jane were Margaret's children.7,8,9,10,2
Census1860Margaret and Daniel appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 14 July 1860, as 54 yo farmer Danl & 54 yo Margt Vincent. Their children Tyler Harrison, Winfield Scott and Martha Jane "Mattie" were listed as living with them. A puzzling enumeration - who is 15 yo Yost Vincent listed between Tyler & Scott? Perhaps a nephew. He's certainly not listed in the 1850. Daniel is quite wealthy with real estate valued at $16,000 and personal estate at $1,000.11
Census1870Margaret and Daniel appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 18 June 1870, as 64 yo farmer Daniel & 64 yo Margaret Vincent. Their daughter Martha Jane "Mattie" was listed as living with them, as well as their granddaughter 2 yo Elizabeth Vincent, daughter of their son Winfield Scott and his first wife Anna T. Allen.12
Estate-WillMargaret was named executrix and an heir in the will of Daniel Vincent Jr., her husband, dated 27 April 1878 at Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, receiving the income from all his real estate and miscellaneous personal property.13,7
Census1880*Margaret and Daniel appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 12 June 1880, as 73 yo farmer Daniel & 74 yo wife Margaret Vincent. Their children Winfield Scott and Martha Jane "Mattie" were listed as living with them, along with Caroline Becker, Winfield's future wife.14
Census1900Margaret appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 5 June 1900, as 94 yo widow landlord Margaret Vincent. Her 53 yo (step) daughter Martha Jane Vincent was living with her.1,15
Burial*She was buried at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Delhi Hills, Hamilton Co., Ohio.4
Death*Margaret died in 1903.16,3,4

Thomas Ellis1,2

M, #2694, b. circa 1790, d. between 7 June 1827 and 8 August 1827
Last Edited7 Oct 2022
Birth*Thomas was born circa 1790. Thomas died at age of 37.3
Marriage*He married Catherine Lnu before 1802, based on birthyear of eldest child in the 1820 census.1,4,5
LandDeal*They and Catherine purchased 172 acres in sections 17 & 18 in 1812. Althoff claims Thomas was the first land purchaser to settle in Section 17.4
Move*Thomas and Catherine moved their residence to section 7, Delhi Township, Hamilton Co., Ohio in 1812. Althoff says Thomas & Catherine were the first land purchasers in Section 17.2
Census1820*Thomas appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 121101-3001 as >45 yo Thomas Allis. The three daughters under 10 lock this one. I'm going on assumption that the age brackets are correct for the four boys and have tweaked their estimated birthyears accordingly.5
Estate-Will*Thomas Ellis left a will dated 7 June 1827 at Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, naming his son Abel, wife Catherine and Gadok Davis as executors. Named heirs included his wife Catherine, son Abel and remaining children David, James V. W., Joseph C., Hester Ann, Elizabeth and Martha Ann.6,1,7
Death*Thomas died between 7 June 1827 and 8 August 1827.1,4
Estate-Probate*Thomas's will was probated at Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, on 8 August 1827.6,1,7

Birth*Catherine was born circa 1782 in New Jersey.3,2
Marriage*She married Thomas Ellis before 1802, based on birthyear of eldest child in the 1820 census.1,4,5
LandDeal*They and Thomas purchased 172 acres in sections 17 & 18 in 1812. Althoff claims Thomas was the first land purchaser to settle in Section 17.4
Move*Catherine and Thomas moved their residence to section 7, Delhi Township, Hamilton Co., Ohio in 1812. Althoff says Thomas & Catherine were the first land purchasers in Section 17.2
Census1820Catherine is probably the female age 26 to 44 listed in the household of her husband, Thomas Ellis, in the 1820 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio.5
Estate-WillCatherine was named executrix and an heir in the will of Thomas Ellis, her husband, dated 7 June 1827 at Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, reveiving one-third of his personal and real estate during her natural life plus all their flax, wool, corn and crops for one year.6,1,7
Census1830*Catherine appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 00012000001-2110101 as 40-49 yo Catherine Ellis. This enumeration fits our data well with a few caveats. The male 80-89 is unidentified. The two females <10 are unknown. Possibly Catherine was pregnant with twin girls when Thomas wrote his will in June 1827. Finally both Elizabeth and Martha seen to be listed one bracket too young. On the other hand this is the only Catherine Ellis in Delhi, or any name even close to that, so I'm quite confident this is our family.8
Census1840Catherine appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Delhi Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, with a household listed as 00001-00000001 as 50-59 yo Nathaime (Catherine) Ellis.9
Census1850Catherine appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Green & Delhi Twps., Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 5 October 1850, as 68 yo Cathrine Ellis. Others in the household are her future grandson-in-law Dwight Bartlett (husband of her daughter Hester's daughter Clarissa), her orphaned grandson Thomas Ellis (son of David), and two unidentified persons, George W. Walker and Sarah Ellis. Sarah is two years younger than Thomas and may be an as yet unknown sister. Dwight's age and birth state are both off but he's just a lodger and likely Catherine was only guessing.3
Estate-Will*Catherine Lnu left a will dated 11 March 1851 at Hamilton Co., Ohio, naming Philip Slone, relationship unknown, and her son-in-law Daniel Vincent as executors. Named heirs were her children James V. W., Joseph C., Hester Ann and Elizabeth, as well as two persons currently unknown, Amy Hyatt and Margaret Hyatt. They received half of the bequest of sisters Hester and Elizabeth so may be daughters-in-law, nieces, etc. Other named heirs were grandsons David and Thomas Ellis.
I made a transcription of this will in 1998 and will provide if requested by email.1,10,11
Death*Catherine died between 11 March 1851 and 25 July 1851.1,11
Estate-Probate*Catherine's will was probated at Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, on 25 July 1851.1,12,10
