John Henry Christian "Chris" Hillerman1,2,3
M, #10471, b. 4 June 1881, d. 7 March 1960
Birth* | John was born on 4 June 1881 in New York Co., New York.1,4 |
Marriage* | He married Mary Alice Dickerson, daughter of John Benjamin Crook "Dick" Dickerson and Mary Ellen Williams, from 24 June 1900 to 11 September 1918, date range based on Mary with her parents in the 1900 census and they're already married on Christian's WWI draft card. The ages at first marriage given in the 1930 census suggest Chris's first marriage was in 1911, Mary's in 1904. Assuming those dates are approximately correct this would be at least Mary's second marriage.1,5 |
Census1920* | John and Mary appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 4, Galveston Co., Texas, enumerated 3 January 1920, as 38 yo dairy farmer Chris & 47 yo wife Mary A Hillerman, The enumeration correctly shows Mary's parents' birthstates as New York and Virginia.6 |
Census1930 | John and Mary appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 4, Galveston Co., Texas, enumerated 14 April 1930, as 48 yo longshoreman Chris & 58 yo wife Alice Hillerman, The enumeration again correctly shows Mary's parents' birthstates as New York and Virginia.3 |
Census1940 | John and Mary appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Arcadia, Galveston Co., Texas, enumerated 3 May 1940, as 58 yo blacksmith Christian & 68 yo wife Mary A Hillerman.2 |

Burial* | He was buried at Oak Park Cemetery in Alvin, Brazoria Co., Texas. Chris is the only Hillerman listed for Arcadia Cemetery as of 09 Jun 2021.7 |

Elizabeth Frances Lyon1
F, #10491, b. circa 1844
Birth* | Elizabeth was born circa 1844 in Decherd, Franklin Co., Tennessee.2,3 |
Marriage* | She married William Washington Brittain on 15 December 1871 in Franklin Co., Tennessee. My preliminary research suggests children were Dr. Ethel (1872-1955, m. Fnu Hunter), Columbus Lilliard (1874-1946, m. Frances Gail Chapman 1897), James David (1875-1965, m. Myrtle Cooper), Elmer Francis (1883-1962, m. Sarah V Devlin ca. 1929 in Sebastian, AR), and Floyd Brittain (). The 1910 census confirms married 38 years with 5 born and 5 living. One marriage record lists her as Mrs. E F Lyon, another as simply E F Lyon. The 1910 census shows 'm2' for James, which is correct, but 'm1' for Elizabeth. I'm currently uncertain whether her maiden surname was Lyon or Lnu.1,2,4 |
Census1880* | Elizabeth and William appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Civil Dist. 17, Franklin Co., Tennessee, enumerated 7 June 1880, as 53 yo William & 36 yo wife Bettie Brittain. Their children 19 yo Willie, 8 yo Ethel, 6 yo Leonard, and 5 yo James Brittain were listed as living with them.3 |
Census1900 | Elizabeth and William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Civil Dist. 17, Franklin Co., Tennessee, enumerated 7 June 1900, as 72 yo farmer Wm W & 56 yo wife Elizabeth F Brittain. Census1910 | Elizabeth and William appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Civil Dist. 17, Franklin Co., Tennessee, enumerated 29 April 1910, as 82 yo retired farmer William W & 66 yo wife Elizabeth F Brittain.4 |

Madison Bailey1
M, #10494
Marriage* | He married Jeanette Blair, daughter of Henry W. Blair and Sally Shreves, on 25 June 1866 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina. My preliminary research suggests their only child was William Madison Bailey (1872-1949, m. Emma Susan Morris bef. 1901, Find A Grave memorial no. 74263482). Jeanette's FSTrees entry (MYLB-3LJ) claims an unnamed daughter (1866-1866) but I find no evidence. One marriage record says 25 Jun 1865 but the others say 25 Jun 1866. Jenette's name is spelled at least three different ways.2,1,3,4 |

Martha Elizabeth Ledford1
F, #10496, b. 13 May 1852, d. 2 December 1883
Birth* | Martha was born on 13 May 1852 in Forsyth Co., North Carolina, d/o W F Ledford.2,3,1 |
Marriage* | She married Elijah William Blair, son of John Blair Jr. and Sally Baker King, on 28 January 1875 in Mt. Airy, Surry Co., North Carolina. My preliminary research suggests their children were William Bunyon "Willie" (c1885?-1964, school teacher, m. Rosella Taylor 1910 in Surry Co), and Martha Francis "Fannie" Blair (1885?-1914, m. Jim(?) Taylor). The birthyears for these two children are questionable as they both claim Martha or Martha Ledford as their mother, yet she reliably died in 1883. It's possible Elijah m2 Martha Lnu between m1's death in 1883 and his own in 1889 and these are her children, but I've found no evidence for this and in any case Martha specifically says her mother was Ledford. Marriages says 28 Jan, her husband claims 26 Jan in wife's obit written by him.3,4,5 |
Census1880* | Martha and Elijah appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Danbury, Stokes Co., North Carolina, enumerated 26 June 1880, as 35 yo cabinetmaker Elijah W & 27 yo wife Marthy E Blair.6 |
Death* | Martha died on 2 December 1883 in Danbury, Stokes Co., North Carolina, at age 31. Find A Grave claims 12 Dec but her obit says 02 Dec. The calculation using her birthdate and age at death confirms 02 Dec.3,2,1 |
Burial* | She was buried at Danbury Cemetery in Danbury, Stokes Co., North Carolina. Find A Grave provides photo of her headstone and copy of obit from The Danbury Reporter.2 |
