James M. Lee1
M, #8859
Marriage* | He married Martha A. Blair, daughter of Ralph A. Blair and Asenath McFadden, on 13 October 1851 in Rutherford Co., Tennessee. The Blair Genealogy website claims Martha married John Ballentine but makes no mention of James Lee. There is a record in TN County Marriages but the date is 10 May 1843. Martha is clearly living with her parents in both the 1840 and 1850 censuses so this makes little sense. Also, she'd be in the neighborhood of only 14 years old in 1843. Unlikely.2,1,3 |

Marriage* | His first marriage was to Sarah Harriet Blair, daughter of William L. J. "Little John" Blair and Margaret Williams, on 26 October 1854 at Rutherford Co., Tennessee. My preliminary research suggests children were Martha Ann "Mattie" (1856-1932, m. Charles F Shelton 1874 in Rutherford, TN), John (1859-1860), and William Brittain (1861- ).3,4,1 |
Census1860* | William and Sarah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Dist. 1, Franklin Co., Tennessee, enumerated 13 June 1860, as 32 yo farmer Wm W & 22 yo Harriet Brittain. Their daughter 4 yo Martha A Brittain was listed as living with them.5 |
Milit-Service* | William Washington Brittain served as a Private, later Farrier with Co. F, McLemore's 4th Tennessee Cavalry, CSA during the Civil War .6,7,2 |
Marriage* | His second marriage was to Elizabeth Frances Lyon on 15 December 1871 at Franklin Co., Tennessee. My preliminary research suggests children were Dr. Ethel (1872-1955, m. Fnu Hunter), Columbus Lilliard (1874-1946, m. Frances Gail Chapman 1897), James David (1875-1965, m. Myrtle Cooper), Elmer Francis (1883-1962, m.
