Elijah William Blair1
M, #8832, b. 6 October 1844, d. 11 February 1889
Birth* | Elijah, son of John Blair Jr. and Sally Baker King, was born on 6 October 1844 in Surry Co., North Carolina. The 1850 says he ws born in VA.3,1 |
Census1850 | Elijah appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Eastern Dist., Rockingham Co., North Carolina in the household of his parents, John Blair Jr. and Sally Baker King, as 5 yo E W Blair.1 |
Census1860 | Elijah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Northern Div., Rockingham Co., North Carolina in the household of his parents, John Blair Jr. and Sally Baker King, as 15 yo Eligah Blair.4 |
Census1870 | Elijah appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Westfield Twp., Surry Co., North Carolina in the household of his parents, John Blair Jr. and Sally Baker King, as 24 yo Elizah Blair.5 |
Marriage* | He married Martha Elizabeth Ledford on 28 January 1875 in Mt. Airy, Surry Co., North Carolina. My preliminary research suggests their children were William Bunyon "Willie" (c1885?-1964, school teacher, m. Rosella Taylor 1910 in Surry Co), and Martha Francis "Fannie" Blair (1885?-1914, m. Jim(?) Taylor). The birthyears for these two children are questionable as they both claim Martha or Martha Ledford as their mother, yet she reliably died in 1883. It's possible Elijah m2 Martha Lnu between m1's death in 1883 and his own in 1889 and these are her children, but I've found no evidence for this and in any case Martha specifically says her mother was Ledford. Marriages says 28 Jan, her husband claims 26 Jan in wife's obit written by him.6,7,8 |
Census1880* | Elijah and Martha appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Danbury, Stokes Co., North Carolina, enumerated 26 June 1880, as 35 yo cabinetmaker Elijah W & 27 yo wife Marthy E Blair.9 |
Death* | Elijah died on 11 February 1889 in Stokes Co., North Carolina, at age 44.1 |
Burial* | He was buried at Danbury Cemetery in Danbury, Stokes Co., North Carolina. Find A Grave provides photo of his headstone.1 |

Burial* | She was buried at Edgewood Cemetery in Lowell, Gaston Co., North Carolina. Headstone photo available at Find A Grave.2 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 2 July 2021 re Find A Grave. Find A Grave claims Genetta married Daniel Webster Blair though I find only circumstantial evidence supporting this. She's single with her parents and siblings in the 1880 census. She and sister Mary are with their brother William Daniel in all three of the 1900-1920 censuses. This suggests that if Genetta and Daniel Webster were married, then they divorced or separated between the 1880 and 1900 censuses. Genetta is shown as single in all three of the late censuses, not divorced or widowed. However she is marked widow on her death certificate.10,2 |

William Daniel Blair1,2,3
M, #8843, b. circa 1856
Birth* | William, son of William Blair and Permelia R. Kurn, was born circa 1856 in North Carolina.3 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 2 July 2021 re Ancestry's Lyn Blair Tree. It calls him Daniel Webster Blair, citing only the 1880 census. That name doesn't work with the censuses in which he's William (1860), William D (1870), Daniel (1880, 1900), Daniel W (1910), and Dan W Blair (1920.) |
Census1860 | William appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Northern Div., Rockingham Co., North Carolina in the household of his parents, William Blair and Permelia R. Kurn, as 4 yo William Blair.3 |
Census1870 | William appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Wentworth Twp., Rockingham Co., North Carolina, as 12 yo William D Blair in the household of his grandmother Sally Wade; as 90 yo Sallie Blair.2 |

Census1900* | William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of South Point Twp., Gaston Co., North Carolina, at McAdenville, enumerated 6 June 1900, as 44 yo cotton mill weaver Daniel Blair. His sisters 50 yo Genetta and 48 yo Mary are listed as living with him. In same dwelling, separate family, are his brother James and family.4 |
Census1910 | William appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of South Point Twp., Gaston Co., North Carolina, at McAdenville, enumerated 23 April 1910, as 54 yo farmer Daniel W Blair. His sisters 59 yo Genetta and 57 yo Mary were listed as living with him.5 |
Census1920 | William appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of McAdenville, Gaston Co., North Carolina, enumerated 14 January 1920, as 64 yo cotton mill sweeper Dan W Blair. His sisters 62 yo Nellie (whom I take to be Genetta) and 58 yo Betsy (whom I take to be Mary Elizabeth) are listed as living with him. It's possible that Dan is in fact Genetta's ex-husband Daniel Webster Blair and these are in fact that Daniel's real sisters and not Genetta/Mary E at all. Their ages are both off and the names, while possible, have not been seen before in this form.6 |

William Marshall Auten 1932 in Gaston Co), Velma (1897-1984), Ruth May (1899-1975, m. William A Gillen who outlived her, res. Belmont, NC in 1975), Lucius (c1902-1959, m. Death* | James died on 25 March 1930 at his home in Lowell, Gaston Co., North Carolina, of acute cardiac dilation. Find A Grave says he died 1936 even though his headstone says 1930. His death certificate is clearly 1930.8,9,2 |
Burial* | He was buried at Edgewood Cemetery in Lowell, Gaston Co., North Carolina. Joint headstone photo & copy of obit (not found at Newspapers.com July 2021) are available at Find A Grave.2 |

Martha A. Blair1
F, #8848, b. circa 1829, d. 2 May 1858
Birth* | Martha, daughter of Ralph A. Blair and Asenath McFadden, was born circa 1829 in Tennessee. She was 29 yo at her death in 1858.4,1 |
Census1830 | Martha is probably one of the two females under age 5 listed in the household of her father, Ralph A. Blair, in the 1830 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee.5 |
Census1840 | Martha is probably one of the two females age 10 to 14 listed in the household of her father, Ralph A. Blair, in the 1840 Federal Census of Rutherford Co., Tennessee.6 |
Census1850 | Martha appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Gambill Dist., Rutherford Co., Tennessee in the household of her parents, Ralph A. Blair and Asenath McFadden, as 21 yo Martha A Blair.7 |
Marriage* | She married James M. Lee on 13 October 1851 in Rutherford Co., Tennessee. The Blair Genealogy website claims Martha married John Ballentine but makes no mention of James Lee. There is a record in TN County Marriages but the date is 10 May 1843. Martha is clearly living with her parents in both the 1840 and 1850 censuses so this makes little sense. Also, she'd be in the neighborhood of only 14 years old in 1843. Unlikely.8,9,10 |
Death* | Martha died on 2 May 1858 in Fulton Co., Kentucky, of typhoid fever.4,9 |
Burial* | She was buried at Blair Family Cemetery in Fulton, Fulton Co., Kentucky. She's noted as wife of James M. Lee. Her parents and sister Eliza Brown are the four graves in this tiny cemetery.9 |
