At least two say 21 Aug, at least one says 21 Sep.      My preliminary research suggests their only child was Mada Emma Andrick (1864-1874). Marriage*	He married Lillis "Lillie' Andrick, daughter of Judge Jacob Andrick and Mada Smith, on 9 April 1854 at Lillie's home in Monroe, Green Co., Wisconsin. My preliminary research suggests their children were Mada Couch (1855-1934, m. Arthur A Chapman; res. Ft. Scott 1900), William A Couch (1856-1860), Otto David Couch (1859-1933, m. Mamie Rainier 1885), John Harrod Couch Jr (1863-1897, m. Connie A Ambrose 1891), Mina Julette "Birdy" Couch (1866-1929, m. Victor Harris Harkey; res. Ft. Scott 1900), and Winette "Wina" Couch (1870-1942, m. C H Poole; res. Hampton, IA 1900).2,3,1
Move*	John and Lillis moved their residence from Wisconsin to Fort Scott in 1857.      Lillie's obit in Fort Scott Daily Tribune and Fort Scott Daily Monitor of 01 Feb 1900 states, "She came here in the early summer of 1857, about two months after her late husband had trusted his destiny to the frontier town of 100 people".      John's Find A Grave memorial states incorrectly, "Dr. Couch, his wife and 2 children came to Fort Scott in 1867 accompanied by his father-in-law, J. Andrick, wife and 4 children. They came in two wagons and a carriage from Wisconsin. For a long time Dr. Couch was the only physician for miles around. Given for submission by Ida Daniels"      Lillie's parents Jacob & Mada died in 1864 and 1862 respectively so obviously they did not move to Kansas in 1867.      Jacob & Mada and family were in Wisconsin in 1850 and in Kansas Territory in 1860 which confirms the 1857 date is at least in the ballpark.2,1

My preliminary research suggests their children were Cranford Campbell (1892-1960, served in WWI), Frankie G Campbell (1895-1964, of Nowata 1962, never married), and Gaylen Campbell (1898-1900). Ettie shows married 18 years with 4 born and 2 living in the 1910 census. I've found nothing showing the name of the missing child. All three children have Find A Grave memorials.2,1,4

Birth*	Albert was born on 25 September 1884 in Abilene, Taylor Co., Texas. His surname in his Find A Grave memorial is Staffens but his headstone clearly reads Steffens as do several news articles in the El Paso Herald-Post.1
Marriage*	He married Opie Wood, daughter of William C. Wood and Josie Belle Jenkins, in 1916.4,2,3
Census1920*	Albert and Opie appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of San Angelo, Tom Green Co., Texas, enumerated 2 January 1920, as 32 yo (occupation unreadable) Albert & 25 yo wife Opie Steffens.5
Census1930	Albert and Opie appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of El Paso, El Paso Co., Texas, enumerated 1 April 1930, as 45 yo drug store salesman Albert H & 31 yo wife Opie Steffens. Seven boarders were listed as living with them. It appears that the original enumeration had Albert & Opie as boarders of the HOH above them, 29 yo Dave Harper. But those entries were marked out and the new ones probably say 'Head' and 'Wife-H'. At any rate, the location and other details are correct whether Albert is HOH or not.6

My preliminary research suggests their only child was William Edward Shettle Jr (1912-1971, res. Beaumont, TX 1950).4
