Birth*Martha, daughter of Alben Coe Sr. and Ruth Nickols, was born in 1835 in Ohio. Find A Grave's year of 1835 doesn't quite jive with the 1850 census and the middle initial T is wrong, but their comment Listed with Washington L Summers, Inscription: Wife of W.L. Age 49y 4m 1d is pretty definitive.2,3,1
Census1840Martha is probably the female age 5 to 9 listed in the household of her father, Alben Coe Sr., in the 1840 Federal Census of Morven Twp., Marion (now Morrow) Co., Ohio.4
Census1850Martha appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Gilead Twp., Morrow Co., Ohio in the household of her parents, Alben Coe Sr. and Mary Lnu, as 19 yo Martha Coe.5

Census1860*Martha and Washington appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Troy Twp., Richland Co., Ohio, at Lexington PO, enumerated 30 July 1860, as 33 yo farmer Washington & 31 yo Martha Summers. Their son Curtis was listed as living with them. James & Rebecca Summers live next door, possible parents of Washington.7
Marriage*Her second marriage was to J. O. McDonald on 20 September 1869 at Morrow Co., Ohio.8,1
Census1870*Martha and J. appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Mt. Gilead, Morrow Co., Ohio, enumerated 23 June 1870, as 40 yo carpenter J O & 38 yo Martha J McDonald. Their children 14 yo Ida E and 12 yo William Frank McDonald, likely J. O.'s children from a previous marriage, were listed as living with them.9
Death*Martha died on 18 October 1897. Find A Grave claims 30 Apr 1884. Unfortunately no headstone photo at Find A Grave to confirm inscription.1,2
Burial*She was buried at River Cliff Cemetery in Mt. Gilead, Morrow Co., Ohio.2

Abner Nickols1

M, #2292, b. 31 August 1838, d. 25 December 1919
FatherGeorge Nickols1 b. 24 May 1807, d. 18 Sep 1885
MotherJulia Ann Bradfield1 b. 22 Dec 1812, d. 12 Jul 1845
Last Edited3 Apr 2023
Birth*Abner, son of George Nickols and Julia Ann Bradfield, was born on 31 August 1838 in exact location unknown, now Morrow Co., Ohio. His headstone has no information on it so birth date and location have been added by Find A Grave contributor without citation.2,1,3
Census1840Abner is probably the male under age 5 listed in the household of his father, George Nickols, in the 1840 Federal Census of Morven Twp., Marion (now Morrow) Co., Ohio.4
Census1850Abner appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Cardington, Morrow Co., Ohio in the household of his parents, George Nickols and Athanissa Spencer, as 11 yo Abner Nickols.5
Marriage*He married Margaret Jane Zuck on 4 March 1860 in Marion Co., Ohio.6
Census1860*Abner and Margaret appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Brownings Ferry PO, Osage Twp., Henry Co., Missouri, enumerated 30 June 1860, as 21 yo farmer Abner & 20 yo Margaret J Nickols.7
Census1880Abner and Margaret appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Sand Creek Twp., Union Co., Iowa, enumerated 10 July 1880, as 41 yo farmer Abner & 39 yo wife Margret Nickles. Their children Albert V., Ema Lavona, Clarence Arthur, Grace and Clyde were listed as living with them. This census confirms Abner's father born Virginia.8
Census1900Abner and Margaret appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Quincy Twp., Adams Co., Iowa, enumerated 21 June 1900, as 61 yo farmer Abner & 60 yo wife Margret J Nichols. Their daughter Mable E. was listed as living with them. It's a bit odd than none of the children from the 1880 census are enumerated here.9
Residence*Abner resided in Nevada, Vernon Co., Missouri, in August 1909.1
Census1910Abner and Margaret appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Vernon Co., Missouri, at Union Pct., enumerated 19 April 1910, as 71 yo farmer Abner & 70 yo wife Margerette Nickols.10
Burial*He was buried at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Corning, Tehama Co., California. Find A Grave provides photo of family marker but not Abner's headstone specifically.2
Death*Abner died on 25 December 1919 in Tehama Co., California, at age 81. As with birth, his headstone has no information on it so claim of 02 Nov 1919 by Find A Grave is without citation. I'm going with the CA Death Index date.11,2,10

Birth*Joel, son of George Nickols and Athanissa Spencer, was born on 21 November 1850 in Cardington, Morrow Co., Ohio. Find A Grave's Memorial no. 185602059 claims birth in Cardington, Morrow County; death in 1922 in Phoenix; parents George & Athanissa. Find A Grave Memorial no.18879038 claims birth in Prairie City, McDonough Co., Illinois; death in 1885 in Knox Co., Ohio; again s/o George & Athanissa. Since Bartlett claims Joel was alive in 1909 I'm going with the prior version.4,2,3,1
Census1860Joel appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Cardington, Morrow Co., Ohio in the household of his parents, George Nickols and Athanissa Spencer, as 9 yo Joel Nichols.5

Burial*He was buried at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Maricopa Co., Arizona. Copy of death certificate included in his Find A Grave memorial.4
