Milit-Service*Sgt. Charles Augustus Bodkin served as a Sergeant with the US Army during WWI between 1917 and 1919. His military headstone reads, Sgt HQ Det 5 Grand Div TC. Best I can decipher this means Sergeant, Headquarters, Detatchment 5, Grand Division Tank Corps. Dates of service are approximate.1 
Marriage*He married Myrtle Mae Burch, daughter of Elijah Collwell "EC" Burch and Ella Bell Smith, in 1932.2 
Census1940*Charles and Myrtle appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, enumerated 8 April 1940, as 45 yo auto supply shipping clerk Charles A & 33 yo mattress factory seamstress Myrtle Bodkin. Myrtle's 15 yo daughter O'nondes Davis was listed as living with them as step-daughter.3 
Death*Charles died on 29 September 1970 in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, at age 76.1

Birth*Alexander was born in June 1824 in Indiana. Date used is per the 1900 census, though 1825-1826 seems more likely from other censuses.2,3 
Marriage*He married Mary Ann Harbert, daughter of Caleb Harbert and Sarah Downey, on 23 April 1857. The Indiana Marriage Index record says 23 April, the Marriages record says 21 April. I interpret this to mean the license was issed the 21st with the wedding on the 23rd. My preliminary research suggests their children were Caleb Conley (1858- ) and John Conley (1860- ). Neither child is in the 1870 census.4,5 
Census1860*Alexander and Mary appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Union Twp., Ohio Co., Indiana, enumerated 27 June 1860, as 34 yo farmer Alexander & 24 yo Mary Conley. Their children 2 yo Calip(?) and 0.2 yo John Conley were listed as living with them. Mary Ann's parents and sister Sophia live next door above.3

ResearchNote*Research Note of 3 September 2019 re myriad marriage records. Ancestry has a shocking number of marriage records for women named Mary Ann Harbert. I believe Alex is the correct one based on the fact that in the 1860 census for Union Twp., Ohio Co., Indiana, Mary Ann & Alex are living next door to Mary Ann's parents & sister Caleb & Sarah Harbert, and Sophia.
     FSTrees (John H Ayerhart (1834-1921), ID no. L8T5-QNW) claims that Mary Ann married John H Ayerhart/Ayrhart in 1856 and had issue William L, Alvin Jerome, Clara J, Frank W, and Ella Florence Ayerhart. But John's FSTrees entry also says he married Mary Ann Harwood and had two of the same children. Clearly one or both marriages are nonsense. FSTrees has three sources for marriages of the purported children and they all give their mother's surname as either Harwood or Harward, not Harbert.
     Find A Grave has memorials for John (no. 176390115) and Mary Ann Harwood (no. 176390043). Ms. Harwood was definitely not Ms. Harbert.
The surname Ayerhart is nasty in searches having myriad possible spellings.
Bottom line - Mary Ann Harbert of this record did NOT marry John Ayerhart.8

Marriage*He married Rachel Downey, daughter of John Downey and Sarah Gibson, before November 1869, date based on birthyear of son Simon in the 1870 census. This marriage is a bit speculative. Supporting evidence includes Rachel's parents living next door in the 1870 census and her age being perfectly in the middle of a 0.1, 10, 20, 30 yo run from 1850-1880. Rachel is back living with her father in 1880 and son Simon is missing.
     John Watts may be the one with Find A Grave memorial no. 50192505, 1840-1926, born England, though with a different wife and no mention of Rachel.1

Birth*Irvin was born on 19 February 1861 in New Jersey. In the 1920, '30 and '40 censuses his lead initial is E, not I, suggesting he spelled his name Ervin. But it's clearly Irvin on his headstone. The 1920 census says he was born in Tennessee but his obit & the 1940 say New Jersey.2,3,4 
Marriage*He married Mary M. Heistand, daughter of Methuselah Heistand and Nancy Weatherholt, on 20 February 1887 in Juniata, Adams Co., Nebraska. My preliminary research suggests their children wereLena Jesse (1890-1983, m. Archie Lee Jackson 1915, div. bef. 1940 census) and Glenn Ellis Conover (1892-1918, KIA during WWI). Nick's obit claims they were married in '85.1,2 
Census1900*Irvin and Mary appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Russell Pct., Frontier Co., Nebraska, enumerated circa 7 June 1900, as 39 yo farmer Nicholas I & 44 yo wife Mary M Conover. Marriage*She married Lewis F. Culp, son of J. David Culp and Susanna Downey, on 15 September 1860 in St. Joseph Co., Indiana. My preliminary research suggests their children were Milroy Culp (1861-1943, m. Lena M Smith 1906) and Syren Culp (1866-1900), prob. m. Walter S Campbell in 1889.1 
ResearchNote*Research Note of 23 July 2020 re FSTrees. My analysis is that FSTrees has combined two different men named Lewis Culp. Let's call ours Lewis1 and the other Lewis2.
     Lewis1 married Lavina VanDusen in 1860 in St. Joe, Indiana. I have not found them in the 1870 or any later censuses, nor any Find A Grave memorials. They are referenced as the parents of a son, Milroy Culp, in records of Milroy's m1 to Anna L VanDusen (a cousin?) and his m2 Lena M Smith.
     Milroy and Anna had two children, Alice M & Clarence Culp. The family is found together in the 1900 & 1910 censuses. Milroy & Lena had a son Louis. That family is found in the 1920 census, along with Alice's father Benjamin Smith.
     FSTrees claims Lewis1 & Lavina also had a daughter named Syrene. There is a Syren Culp who married Walter Scott Campbell in 1889 and had a daughter Sylvia. That is well documented, but I have found nothing connecting that Syrene to her purported parents, Lewis1 & Lavina.
     Lewis2 married Elizabeth Emery in 1867 in St. Joe, Indiana. Lewis2 & Elizabeth are in the 1860 census in Philadelphia. Lewis2 was born in PA and Elizabeth in Ireland. They have four children ranging in age from 2 to 7 in the 1860. That suggests a marriage ca. 1853, not 1867. The same couple is still in Philadelphia in the 1870, 1880, and 1900 censuses, always in Philadelphia. Lewis2's death certificate shows him born 1828 in PA, not ca. 1838 in Indiana as the census record of our Lewis1's parents shows.
     Elizabeth Emery's entry in FSTrees (ID no. LLHY-9HF) shows two different husbands - Lewis F Culp (ID no. LRSM-JDR, our relative) and Lewis Culp (ID no. LJYN-RJ5, the fellow from Philadelphia.)

Marriage*She married Richard Downey, son of Amos Downey and Matilda Jane Beach, between 1891 and 1892. Married 18 years in the 1910 census.3 
Census1910*Eva and Richard appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Otter Creek Twp., Ripley Co., Indiana, enumerated 27 April 1910, as 58 yo farmer Richard & 41 yo wife Eva Downey. Richard's brother Anderson lives next door.2

Marriage*He married Elizabeth Downey, daughter of Amos Downey and Matilda Jane Beach, between 1880 and 1881. David & Elizabeth were married 19 years in the 1900 census with 2 born and 2 living. Elizabeth is still with her parents in 1880 so a date range of late 1880 to 1881 seems safe.
My preliminary research suggests their children were Emma (c1882-a1916, m. Fnu Harrell and widowed by 1910) and Nora A Burton (1883- , m. Eugene L Floyd, m. Fnu Moore).
There's also a Freda Burton, 0.8 yo in 1900 and previously assumed to be the d/o David & Elizabeth. In the 1910 census she's with Nora & Eugene Floyd as 10 yo step-daughter, suggesting she was Nora's daughter. It makes more sense that Nora bore Freda at age 16 than that Elizabeth did so at age 51.
David's m1 was Elizabeth H Callicott by whom he had at least 7 children. It is Callicott's memorial which is linked to his at Find A Grave.2,1 
Census1900*David and Elizabeth appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Shelby Twp., Ripley Co., Indiana, enumerated 15 June 1900, as 75 yo retired David & 51 yo Elizabeth Burton. Their daughters 16 yo Nora A & 0.8 yo Freeta Burton were listed as living with them, as well as one boarder.2
