Daniel Myers1,2

M, #6241, b. between 1793 and 1797, d. before 5 July 1870
Last Edited29 Apr 2024
Birth*Daniel was born between 1793 and 1797 in Maryland.1
Marriage*His first marriage was to Mary Wilson on 18 October 1813 at Sumner Co., Tennessee. An alleged child for whom I find no useful evidence was Martha C (or Martha Jane), ca. 1833-1908, shown in King Family Tree at Ancestry and at FSTrees (Daniel Myers, ID no. LZVS-SC2).3,4
Census1820Daniel appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Cumberland Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 11002-10101 as 26-44 yo Daniel Myers. Wife Mary is probably the female 16-25, Anna the female under 10, David the male under 10. Currently unidentified are the female 45+ (Dan or Mary's mother?), the second male 26-44 and the male 10-15.5
ResearchNoteResearch Note of 22 July 2012 re George's parents. Showing Daniel & Mary as the parents of 165 George Myers is circumstantial. Sources in support are the Myers-Wilson marriage, the 1830 & 1840 censuses, and brothers as neighbors in the 1870 census. I find no evidence directly linking Daniel & Mary to George.
J Weger's GenForum entry claims that George is son of Joseph Myers and Polly Sefrit, but if you follow those two online it becomes apparent that most people believe their son George was born 1846 and m. Clarissa Hackler. Assertion that it was our George was by Jo Weger who I've been unable to contact by email. Her posting was in 2001 in response to a post by Peter Vandegrift.3,6

Census1830Daniel appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Allen Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 211001-111001 as 30-39 yo Daniel Myers.7
Census1840*Daniel appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Allen Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 1113001-111021 as 40-49 yo Danl Myers. All in all a good match but there are several issues: a) Mary is likely one bracket too young, b) one female 20-29 in unidentified, c) two males 15-19 are unidentified, one female <5 yo is unidentified.8
Marriage*His second marriage was to Cordelia Bennett on 17 August 1845 at Allen Co., Kentucky.9
ResearchNote*Research Note of 8 July 2022 re possible daughter. Perhaps Sarah Alice Myers. FSTrees (entry for Daniel Myers, ID no. LZVS-SC2) claims that Sarah Alice Myers (FSTrees ID no. LM9F-WLD), who married Reuben Robnett, is the daughter of Dan Myers & Cordelia Bennett. Not true according to my analysis. The supporting evidence is as follows:
In the 1860 census Daniel & Cordelia are in Saline County, Illinois, with six children including 4 yo Sarah R P Myers, born in Kentucky. Birthyear figures to be 1855-1856.
In the 1870 census Daniel has died. Cordelia is head of household with four children William, Wesley, Ellen and Thomas Myers living with her. No Sarah listed though Sarah R P would be only about 14 yo.
Sarah Alice Myers shows up in the 1880, 1910 and 1920 censuses with ages respectively of 17, 47 and 53, born Illinois in all three censuses. The first two point nicely to a birthyear of 1862-1863.
Clearly the Sarah R P, b. 1855-1856 in Kentucky, is not the same person as Sarah Alice, b. 1862-1863 in Illinois. Initially I thought that Dan & Cordelia had had two daughters Alice, the first one dying in infancy. The clincher proving FSTrees is wrong is a marriage record in IL County Marriages 1810-1940, for Reuben A Robnett & Sarah A Myers, d/o John Myers & Jones (my emphasis added.)10,11,12,13

Census1850*Daniel and Cordelia appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Simpson Co., Kentucky, enumerated 22 August 1850, as 52 yo farmer Daniel & 31 yo C Myres. Their children M., Daniel Wilson, Henry Washington, Louisa T. and William Cass were listed as living with them. Daniel's birthstate is indexed Massachusetts. The handwriting is almost illegible but I'd say Maryland.1
Census1860Daniel and Cordelia appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of T9N R5E, Saline Co., Illinois, enumerated 5 August 1860, as 67 yo farmer Daniel & 40 yo Cordelia Myers. Their children Louisa T., William Cass, Wesley Heiss, Ellen Cordelia, Sarah R. P. and Thomas J. were listed as living with them.10
Death*Daniel died before 5 July 1870. His m2 Cordelia is HOH in Marion County in the 1870 census of this date. The 1870 doesn't show her marital status but it's presumably widowed.11

Cordelia Bennett1

F, #6254, b. 27 May 1820, d. 24 June 1887
Last Edited29 Apr 2024
Birth*Cordelia was born on 27 May 1820 in Indiana.2,3
Marriage*She married Daniel Myers on 17 August 1845 in Allen Co., Kentucky.1
The clincher proving FSTrees is wrong is a marriage record in IL County Marriages 1810-1940, for Reuben A Robnett & Sarah A Myers, d/o John Myers & Jones (my emphasis added.)4,5,6,7

Census1850*Cordelia and Daniel appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Simpson Co., Kentucky, enumerated 22 August 1850, as 52 yo farmer Daniel & 31 yo C Myres. Their children M., Daniel Wilson, Henry Washington, Louisa T. and William Cass were listed as living with them. Daniel's birthstate is indexed Massachusetts. The handwriting is almost illegible but I'd say Maryland.3
Census1860Cordelia and Daniel appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of T9N R5E, Saline Co., Illinois, enumerated 5 August 1860, as 67 yo farmer Daniel & 40 yo Cordelia Myers. Their children Louisa T., William Cass, Wesley Heiss, Ellen Cordelia, Sarah R. P. and Thomas J. were listed as living with them.4
Census1870*Cordelia appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Centralia 1st Ward, Marion Co., Illinois, enumerated 5 July 1870, as 45 yo Cordelia Mires. Her children William Cass, Wesley Heiss, Ellen Cordelia and Thomas J. were listed as living with her. Her step-son 44 yo James H Myers and family live next door below.5
Census1880Cordelia appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Centralia 2nd Ward, Marion Co., Illinois, enumerated 17 June 1880, as 57 yo widow Cordelia Myers. Her children Wesley Heiss and Thomas J. were listed as living with her.8
Death*Cordelia died on 24 June 1887 in Marion Co., Illinois, at age 67.2
Burial*She was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, Marion Co., Illinois, in unmarked plot EW0-0109-00-0.2

FatherIsaac Josiah McClelland1 b. 10 Aug 1800, d. 19 Mar 1881
MotherSarah "Sallie" Welch1 b. 22 Jun 1802, d. 27 Jan 1848
Last Edited28 Apr 2024
Birth*Catherine, daughter of Isaac Josiah McClelland and Sarah "Sallie" Welch, was born on 19 April 1830. Find A Grave claims 19 Apr 1831 but both the 1830 & 1840 censuses suggest birthyear of 1830 or earlier. I'm going with 19 Apr 1830 until better evidence surfaces. Alternatively there's an unknown sister about 1 year younger than Catherine.2,3
Census1830Catherine is probably one of the two females under age 5 listed in the household of her father, Isaac Josiah McClelland, in the 1830 Federal Census of Marion Co., Illinois.2
Census1840Catherine is probably one of the two females age 10 to 14 listed in the household of her father, Isaac Josiah McClelland, in the 1840 Federal Census of Marion Co., Illinois.4
Death*Catherine died on 17 May 1914 at age 84.1
ResearchNote*Research Note of 5 June 2016 re burial. Buried Elmwood Cemetery, Marion Co., IL. Husband John Woods (1827-1911). Issue John Pinkney, Isaac N, Willis A, Sarah, George R, Cecelia B, and Susan Rebecca Woods.3
