Earl Caldwell Burch1

M, #10075, b. 7 July 1903, d. 12 November 1973
FatherElijah Collwell "EC" Burch2,1 b. 15 Sep 1871, d. 13 Apr 1923
MotherElla Bell Smith2,1 b. 2 Mar 1877, d. 11 May 1956
Last Edited10 Apr 2023
Birth*Earl, son of Elijah Collwell "EC" Burch and Ella Bell Smith, was born on 7 July 1903 in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas. I seriously question the middle name Caldwell even though that's what's on his death certificate. Earl's father and brother were both Collwell.3
Census1910Earl appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas in the household of his parents, Elijah Collwell "EC" Burch and Ella Bell Smith, as 6 yo son Earl Burch.4
Census1920Earl appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas in the household of his parents, Elijah Collwell "EC" Burch and Ella Bell Smith, as 16 yo son Earl Burch.5
Marriage*He married Louise Mae Parton on 20 November 1927 in Grayson Co., Texas. My preliminary research suggests their only child was 'baby girl' Burch (1931-1931).6,7,8
Census1930*Earl and Louise appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, enumerated 5 April 1930, as 26 yo self-employed cobbler ('shoe repairman') Earl C & 24 yo wife Louise Burch. Earl's 24 yo widowed sister Myrtle Davis was listed as living with them, as well as Myrtle's 6 yo daughter Onondas Davis. Earl's brother Edward and his family are four doors below.9
Census1940Earl and Louise appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, enumerated 8 April 1940, as 36 yo cobbler Earl C & 34 yo wife & beauty parlor beautician Louise Burch.10
Residence*Earl resided at 1530 W. Chestnut in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, on 16 February 1942. This WWII draft card is a bit odd in that it shows his employer as the MKT Railroad. Did he do shoe repair for the railroad or had he changed professions since the 1940 census? Another strange thing is he lists his mother, Mrs. H A Schulke [sic], as the person who will always know his address, rather than his wife Louise.11
Residence*Earl and Louise resided at 806 W. Gandy in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, in 1953. Earl is still working for the railroad as a shopman.12
Death*Earl died on 12 November 1973 in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, at age 70.13,3
Burial*He was buried at Fairview Cemetery in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas. Joint headstone photo w/ Louise, and image of death certificate are available at Find A Grave.3
