Marriage*She married Enoch Bartlett, son of Ebenezer Bartlett and Ann Clark, before 1811 in Bethel, Oxford Co., District of Maine, date based on birthyear of son Enoch (Jr.) County is possbily York depending on exactly when the marriage took place. Oxford formed from York & Cumberland Cos in 1805. Bethel appears to be in the area that was once York County.1

Asa Barton1

M, #11402
Last Edited13 Feb 2025
Birth*Asa was born, "of Needham" per Early Settlements.1
Marriage*He married Marcy W. Bartlett, daughter of Ebenezer Bartlett and Anna Ball, on 1 February 1770 in Newton, Middlesex Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. My preliminary research suggests their children were Aaron Barton (?-?), b. Needham, MA; m. Sally Smith 1793; five children at Hibner; and Eunice Barton (1772- ), m. Elijah Swan 1772; ten children at Hibner.
Early Settlement says it was Mercy's sister Mary who m. Asa Barton. I'm sticking with Hibner.2,1

Anna Longley1

F, #11403, b. 10 March 1741/42, d. 9 April 1826
Last Edited12 Feb 2025
Birth*Anna was born on 10 March 1741/42 in Shirley, Middlesex Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England, d/o William and Mary (Parker) Longley.2,1
Marriage*She married Samuel Bartlett, son of Nicholas Bartlett and Elizabeth Lnu, on 27 October 1761. My preliminary research suggests their children were Samuel Bartlett Jr (1762-1857, m. Tabitha burge 1783), Anna Bartlett (1764- , m. Ephraim Farwell 1782; eight children in Hibner), Sarah Bartlett (bp1766-1856, m. Samuel Blood 1788; three children in Hibner), Mary Bartlett (bp1768- , perhaps m. Nathaniel Reed), John Bartlett (bp1769- , perhaps m. Elizabeth Perry), James Bartlett (bp1772- , one of this name m. Sally Thayer in Boston 1806), Molley Bartlett (bp1774- ), Lucy Bartlett (1776- ), Benjamin Bartlett (1778- ) and Emme Bartlett (bp1781- ).1,3
Death*Anna died on 9 April 1826 in Hopkinton, Merrimack Co., New Hampshire, at age 84. Find A Grave says 09 Apr and the headstone agrees. Hibner says 18 Apr. There are towns called Hopkinton in both Merrimack Co., NH and Middlesex Co., MA. This death location a bit iffy since Find A Grave and Hibner disagree. Since she's buried in NH I think that state more likely for her death.1,2
Burial*She was buried at Stumpfield Cemetery in Contoocook, Merrimack Co., New Hampshire. Find A Grave provides headstone photo.2

MotherElizabeth Segar1
Last Edited9 Jan 2025
ResearchNoteResearch Note of 9 January 2024 re the Bartlett-Foster conundrum.
1. Nancy "Anna" Bartlett Foster: Sister possibly of Relief and Anna. Hibner provides birth date and location only with nothing about spouse or children. He gives her name simply as Nancy and shows a sister Anna, shown below as item 3.
Her marriage to Asa Foster, s/o Abner Foster & Lydia Nelson, and their eight children are in her Find A Grave memorial no. 40892714. Their children with Find A Grave memorials were Joel, Asa Jr, Nathan Ames, Reuben Ball, Betsey, Enoch, Eli and Benjamin Foster.
2. Relief Bartlett Estes Foster: Sister possibly of Nancy "Anna" and Anna. Hibner says she m1 Stephen Estes who "disappeared" after ca. 1806. Relief then m2 Abner Foster of Freedom, ME. Hibner gives no marriage date but does list nine children by Estes. No issue by Foster.
3. Anna Bartlett Foster: Sister possibly of Nancy "Anna" and Relief. She married Asa Foster, s/o Abner Foster.
Note from item 1 above that Hibner lists Nancy and Anna as different people. Hibner lists neither birth nor death nor marriage date for Anna.
He shows her children with Foster as Nathan, Reuben, Enoch, Eli, Benjamin, Asa, Joel, Silas, Betsey, Annie, Submit, Lydia, Polly and Elhanan Bartlett Foster. Note all eight of the children in Nancy Anna's Find A Grave are also here. Also that their husbands, Asa Foster, are both sons of Abner Foster.
Conclusion: Nancy Anna and Anna are the same person.2,3,4,5,6,7

Birth*Relief, daughter of Enoch Bartlett and Elizabeth Segar, was born on 2 May 1769 in Newton, Middlesex Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay.8,9,1,6
Marriage*Her first marriage was to Stephen Estes on 24 October 1790. My preliminary research suggests their children were Enoch Estes (1791- ), Betsey Estes (1792- ), John Estes (1795- ), Edmond Estes (1797-1874, m. Catherine Masters), James Estes (1800- ), Anna Estes (m. Amos Barker, of Newry, ME), Joseph Estes (1804- ), Relief "Leafey" Estes (1806-1861, m. Timothy Ayer; three children at Find A Grave) and Elvira Estes (1808-1852, m. Samuel Holt 1829; three children at Find A Grave).10,6
Marriage*Her second marriage was to Abner Foster in 1838. Abner's previous marriage was to Polly Hilton. Find A Grave lists two children from that marriage, viz. Henry & Martha Foster.6,10
Death*Relief died on 28 October 1853 in Freeman, Franklin Co., Maine, at age 84.6
Burial*She was buried at North Freeman Cemetery in Freeman, Franklin Co., Maine. Find A Grave provides NO headstone photo.6

FatherEnoch Bartlett2 b. 27 Sep 1742, d. c 5 Oct 1825
MotherElizabeth Segar2
Conclusion: Nancy Anna and Anna are the same person.3,1,4,5,6,7

Birth*Anna, daughter of Enoch Bartlett and Elizabeth Segar, was born on 4 November 1766 in Newton, Middlesex Co., Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. Her first or middle name may have been Nancy. Anna is consistent in the records. Hibner lists Nancy & Anna as two separate women.8,1,2,9
MarriageShe married Asa Foster in 1790. My preliminary research suggests their children were Joel Foster (1790-1877, m. Marcia T Lnu; one child at Find A Grave), Asa Foster Jr (1791-1878, m. Beulah Bartlett 1817; one child at Find A Grave), Lt. Nathan Ames Foster (1793-1842, m. Patty Stearns; two children at Find A Grave, six at Hibner), Reuben (Ball or Bartlett) Foster (1795-1875, m. Sarah A Bartlett, d/o Stephen & Dorcas (Barbour) Bartlett; six children at Find A Grave, eleven at Hibner), Betsey Foster (1796-1882, m. James A S Bartlett; two children at Find A Grave), Dea. Enoch Foster (1799-1881, m1 Persis Swan, d/o James Swan, m2 Louisa (Stevens) Nutting, widow of Amaziah Nutting; one child at Find A Grave, four at Hibner), Dea. Eli Foster (1802-1873, m. Dorcas B Bartlett, d/o Stephen & Dorcas (Barbour) Bartlett; one child at Find A Grave, three at Hibner), Rev. Benjamin Foster (1808-1891, m. Louisa Coburn, d/o Moses & Esther (Spaulding) Coburn, in 1827; one child at Find A Grave, four at Hibner), Silas Foster (?-?), Annie Foster (?-?), Submit Foster (?-?), Lydia Foster (?-?), Polly Foster (?-?) and Elhanan Foster (1823- , m. Mehitable Chapman, d/o Edmund & Hitty (Gould) Chapman; four children at Hibner).1
Death*Anna died on 2 July 1851 in Newry, Oxford Co., Maine, at age 84.1
Burial*She was buried at Sunday River Cemetery in Newry, Oxford Co., Maine. Find A Grave provides photo of joint headstone with husband Asa.1

My preliminary research suggests their children were Elias Olds (1778-1869, b. Goshen, MA; was a cabinetmaker), Abigail Olds (c1780-1859, b. Goshen, MA; m. Daniel Ford; death year iffy), Elizabeth Olds (1780-1865, m. Census1790*Samuel appeared on the 1790 Federal Census of Ludlow, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, with a household listed as 115 as 16+ yo Saml Olds. His wife Percy is probably one of the five females. The male under 16 yo is likely son Elias. The other four females fit perfectly with daughters Abigail, Elizabeth, Lucinda and Cynthia Olds.
Daughter Elizabeth is iffy. She's not mentioned by Hibner or Olds. She's (so far) only found at Find A Grave. Yet she fits perfectly with the 1790 census.7
Census1800Samuel appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Goshen, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, with a household listed as 21001-10301 as 45+ yo male Samuel Olds. His wife Percy is probably the 45+ yo female. Possible fit for the children is as follows: Abigail, Lucinda and Cynthia all 16-25 yo, Chester & Roxy 10-15 yo, Jason & Silas <10 yo. There are a couple of other combinations that could work.8
Census1810Samuel appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Goshen, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts, with a household listed as 01101-00111 as 45+ yo male Samuel Olds. His wife Percy is probably the female 45+ yo. Possible fit for the others is as follows: Abigail 26-44 yo female, Roxy 16-25 yo female, Jason 16-25 yo male, Silas 10-15 yo male.
