Hardy Wyatt1
M, #10152, b. circa 1790
Birth* | Hardy was born circa 1790 in Georgia.1 |
LandOther* | 8 December 1808 at Laurens Co., Georgia, Hardy of Washington county purchased land from William Carrol of Telfair County. This land originally granted to Richard Dowdy of Montgomery County. Witnesses Stephen Bishop and David Blackshear. Source referenced is Laurens County Court Records from Laurens County Public Library. Foregoing alleged by Ancestry's James Wyatt Family Tree citing Laurens County Court Records. I have been unable to find this record online. |
Marriage* | He married Martha Lnu before 1812, date based on eldest child listed in Ancestry's James Wyatt Family Tree, uncited and possibly worthless.1 |
Census1820* | Hardy appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Laurens Co., Georgia, with a household listed as 40001-101, as 20-45 yo Cordy Wyatt (as indexed) though it's pretty clearly written Hardy Wyatt. There are four children in this enumeration who don't fit with the six children we have entered, one daughter and three sons. All were clearly born on or before 1820, all four are unaccounted for in the 1830 census and have presumably died.2 |
Census1830 | Hardy appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Laurens Co., Georgia, with a household listed as 00410001-110001, as 50-60 yo Hardy Wyatt. Hardy is shown two brackets too old. He should be in the 30-39 range.3 |
Census1840 | Hardy appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Laurens Co., Georgia, with a household listed as 0002000001-0101101, as 70-79 yo Hardy Wyatt. Another messy enumeration. Hardy is again two brackets too old, daughter Martha is probably one bracket too old, son Daniel likely one bracket too young, and daughter Elizabeth one bracket too old.4 |
Census1850* | Hardy and Martha appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 49, Laurens Co., Georgia, enumerated 30 September 1850, as 60 yo blind Hardy & 50 yo Martha Wyatt. Their daughter Nancy MaryAnn was listed as living with them.1 |

Birth* | Nancy, daughter of Hardy Wyatt and Martha Lnu, was born on 19 May 1834 in Georgia. The James Wyatt Family Tree at Ancestry gives a birthdate of January 1834.1 |
Census1840 | Nancy is probably the female age 5 to 9 listed in the household of her father, Hardy Wyatt, in the 1840 Federal Census of Laurens Co., Georgia.4 |
Census1850 | Nancy appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 49, Laurens Co., Georgia in the household of her parents, Hardy Wyatt and Martha Lnu, as 16 yo Nancy Wyatt.3 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 5 August 1852 re FSTrees. Nancy Wyatt (1834-1905), ID no. LHMS-FSP, claims to have married Elisha McClain in 1852 and had issue J & Samuel Bennett McClain. I'm not sure I buy it. She was in Laurens County in the 1850 census. Greene is about four counties north. Elisha supposedly died in 1862 so he and Nancy presumably divorced before she m2 Thomas Garnto in 1856. I find no census record supporting Elisha & Nancy or either of the children. Furthermore the handwritten name on the marriage record is Mary, not Nancy.5 |
Marriage* | She married Thomas G. Garnto on 13 November 1856 in Laurens Co., Georgia. In the 1900 census Nancy shows 9 born with 8 living. No idea who the 9th child was yet.2,6,7 |
Census1860* | Nancy and Thomas appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Dublin, Laurens Co., Georgia, enumerated 16 July 1860, as 32 yo farm laborer Thomas S & 23 yo Nancy Gornto. Their son Newton Thomas was listed as living with them.8 |

Census1880 | Nancy and Thomas appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Smith's 52nd GMD, Laurens Co., Georgia, enumerated 5 July 1880, as 52 yo farmer Thomas & 45 yo mother Nancy Gornto.
