Census1920*Abner appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Alma, Harlan Co., Nebraska, as 69 yo widower father Abner M Bartlett in the household of William & Barbara Lietzcharms. This is a real puzzle. William born Germany so Abner definitely not his father. Barbara was born Iowa ca. 1874. She could be his daughter by m1 Adeline Mitchell. But if so, where is Barbara in the 1880 census? I find a William Lutjeharms (Find A Grave mem. no. 59685796), b. Germany, wife Barbara Elizabeth Metzger, bur. Harlan County. Abner is no father to either of these two.15

FatherNathan Nickols III2 b. 11 May 1826, d. 10 Jan 1885
MotherSarah Elizabeth Kellough2 b. 24 Feb 1837, d. 2 Sep 1899
Last Edited31 Mar 2023
Birth*Carrie, daughter of Nathan Nickols III and Sarah Elizabeth Kellough, was born on 28 June 1878 in Macomb, McDonough Co., Illinois.1,2
Census1880Carrie appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Macomb, McDonough Co., Illinois in the household of her parents, Nathan Nickols III and Sarah Elizabeth Kellough, as 1 yo daughter Carrie W Nickols.3
Census1900*Carrie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Prairie City, McDonough Co., Illinois, as 21 yo niece Carrie NIchols in the household of H. L. & S. A. Miller. There's a Rachel Miller who married Carrie's father's brother Albert but that wouldn't make her a niece. I know of no other Millers on either side of Carrie's family.4
Marriage*She married Brainard Delbert Curtis circa 1902. Married 8 years, first marriage for each, with 2 born and 2 living in the 1910 census.5,1,2
Residence*Carrie and Brainard resided in Prairie City, McDonough Co., Illinois, in August 1909.2
Census1910*Carrie and Brainard appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Lee Twp., Fulton Co., Illinois, enumerated 23 April 1910, as 28 yo farmer Delbert B & 31 yo wife Carrie W Curtis. Their children Kenneth N. and Claire Brainard were listed as living with them.5
Census1920Carrie and Brainard appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Lee Twp., Fulton Co., Illinois, enumerated 7 January 1920, as 38 yo farmer Delbert B & 40 yo wife Carry W Curtis. Their children Kenneth N., Claire Brainard and Morris L. were listed as living with them.6
Census1930Carrie and Brainard appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Chalmers Twp., McDonough Co., Illinois, enumerated 4 April 1930, as 48 yo farmer Brainard D & 50 yo wife Carrie W Curtis. Their children Claire Brainard and Morris L. were listed as living with them.7
Marr-Divorce*Carrie was divorced from Brainard Delbert Curtis from April 1930 to 1940. Divorce is assumed because Delbert & Carrie are in the 1930 together, Delbert & Mary in the 1940, but Carrie didn't die until 1944. It's interesting that Carrie shows up in her son Claire's household in the 1940 as widowed. Perhaps there's another explanation.8,7
Census1940Carrie appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois, as 61 yo mother Carrie W Curtis in the household of her son & daughter-in-law Claire Brainard Curtis and Thelma N. Lnu; as 34 yo truck driver Clair B & 31 yo wife Thelma N Curtis.9
Death*Carrie died on 3 June 1944 in Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois, at age 65.1
Burial*She was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, McDonough Co., Illinois. Headstone photo available at Find A Grave.1
