Milit-Service* | Thomas Porter served as a private with the Connecticut Militia regiment commanded by Colonel Beebe during the American Revolutionary War April 1780. Maxey & Dappen writes, Thomas Porter served as a Private for nine months beginning in April 1780 (or 1781) in the CT militia regiment commanded by Colonel Beebe. He was assigned to the company commanded by Captain Chapman. At the time he entered service, he was living in the Bethlehem Society near Woodbury, CT. Thomas filed a pension claim in Cotton, SwitzerlandCo., IN on August 21, 1832 for which he was later granted a pension. He was married to either Sarah Price or Beulah Price (b. circa 1763) and they had three known sons, namelyJohn (b. 1805, HamiltonCo., OH), James (1808, OH-1877), and Moses (1810, OH-1899, JeffersonCo., IN). Thomas stated that he lived in Kentucky for ten years (difficult to read) and he lived in OH for about twenty years before moving to Indiana.
There were two other Porters listed on the rolls for the 4th CT Regiment. Nathanial Porter served from December 7, 1780 to November 13, 1782 in the 7th Company commanded by Captain David Star. Colonel Zebulon Butler was the Regimental commander. Eldad Porter from Waterbury served from April 1, 1780 to December 31, 1780".5 |
