Marriage* | She married Ollie Leeroy More Sr., son of Charles Henry More and Sarah Catherine Myers, between 1916 and 1917. Henry Clayton Suggs Jr.1
M, #9995, b. 28 February 1879, d. 2 January 1919
Birth* | Henry was born on 28 February 1879 in Rich Hill, Bates Co., Missouri, s/o Henry Clayton Suggs & Elzina Sophronia Jackson. His obit & WWI draft cards both say he was born on 28 Feb 1879. Find A Grave's year is 1877.2,3,4 |
Marriage* | He married Nellie Minerva More, daughter of Charles Henry More and Sarah Catherine Myers, on 11 February 1909 in Carthage, Joplin Co., Missour. My preliminary research suggests their children were Ollie Leeroy Suggs (1909-1982, m1 Wilma B Sloan, res. Coffeyville, KS 1930, m2 Virginia Merle Peterson), Henry Suggs (1911- , perhaps m. Judith Vlasie), Violet Gertrude Suggs (1914-1974, m. Frank LoChiano), and Velma Victoria Suggs (1919- , perhaps m. Lenward B Smith). Both Henry & Nellie were of Fort Scott on their Missouri marriage license. The 1910 census says married 2 years w/ 1 born and 1 living. FSTrees claims Henry m1 Pearl Leona Wolfe in 1900 and had issue Viola Elsie (1901-1987), Daisy Mildred (1903-1984), and Rolland Clayton Suggs (1906-1945).5,6,1 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 22 June 2020 re obits. The obits for both Henry & Nellie say they had four children. I have listed them in the marriage tag as Ollie Leeroy, Henry, Violet Gertrude, and Velma Victoria Suggs. There is adequate evidence to support all four names. However there's one puzzling person, Howard D Luckey, who claims Henry & Nellie as his parents in his Montana marriage record. I find a 20 yo lodger Henry Suggs in the 1930 census in the home of Fred & Florence Nather in Kessler, Montana. His age is good but birthstate is MO rather than KS. Close enough. Best guess is that Howard D Luckey is Henry Suggs. Whether he changed his name or it's a simple transcription error remains unclear.7 |
Census1910* | Henry and Nellie appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Baker Twp., Crawford Co., Kansas, enumerated 21 April 1910, as 30 yo coal mine driver Henery & 17 yo wife Melle N Sugges. Their 1 yo son Ollie Leeroy Sugges was listed as living with them.6 |
Residence* | Henry and Nellie resided in Pittsburg, Crawford Co., Kansas, in 1914.8 |
Occupation* | Henry was a miner employed by the Price Coal Company before his death between 1914 and 1919.3,8 |
CensusNF1* | Henry and Nellie appeared on the 1915 Kansas State Census of Pittsburg, Crawford Co., Kansas, enumerated 1915, as 35 yo Henry & 22 yo Nellie Suggs. Their children 6 yo Ollie, 4 yo Henry and 1 yo Violet Suggs were listed as living with them.9 |
Death* | Henry died on 2 January 1919 at YMCA Hospital in Pittsburg, Crawford Co., Kansas, at age 39, of influenza, presumably part of the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic.3,4 |
Burial* | He was buried at Mount Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, Crawford Co., Kansas. Joint headstone photo is available at Find A Grave.4 |
Estate-Admin | His administration of estate began on 29 January 1919 at Probate Court, Crawford Co., Kansas.10,11 |

Alton W Hutson, m2 Fincher?), Pauline Margaret More (1923-2003, m. Move | Sara and Harland moved their residence to Honolulu from 6 July 1920 to 11 July 1920, as Hawaiian Replacement Troops aboard USAT Great Northern. Ada Adelia Weaver1,2
F, #10000, b. between 1876 and 1877, d. circa 22 September 1932
Birth* | Ada was born between 1876 and 1877 in Pennsylvania.3 |
Marriage* | She married George Wilson Myers, son of James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, on 20 June 1899 in Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri.2,1 |
Census1900 | Ada appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Osage Twp., Allen Co., Kansas, as 23 yo daughter-in-law Ada A Myers in the household of James Hanna Myers; as 73 yo farmer James H & 52 yo wife Addie A Myers.4 |
Census1910* | Ada and George appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, enumerated circa 16 April 1910, as 36 yo electric railroad brakeman George W & 33 yo wife Ada A Myers. Their children Mildred Violet and Dorothy E. were listed as living with them.5 |
Census1920 | Ada and George appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, enumerated 8 January 1920, as 45 yo railroad brakeman George W & 43 yo wife Ada A Meyers. Their children Mildred Violet and Dorothy E. were listed as living with them. There are two others in the household, one roomer and one puzzle. The puzzle is listed as 58 yo widowed 'mother' Nora J Morgan, born Ohio. Yet George's mother is listed as born Indiana, and Nora's as Pennsylvania. So whose mother is it? Definitely not George's.6 |
Census1930 | Ada and George appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, enumerated 4 April 1930, as 56 yo electric railroad brakeman George W & 53 yo wife Ada A Myers. Their children Mildred Violet and Dorothy E. were listed as living with them. Dorothy enumerated twice - here and with her husband in Kansas.7 |
Death* | Ada died circa 22 September 1932. This is an unfortunate source citation. GenealogyBank's extraction is done by computer and doesn't say whether the date of 22 September is the death date or obit date. It does not name the newspaper or even the state. I've been unable to find this obit at Newspapers.com or Google News.8 |

Birth* | Laura was born between 1891 and 1892 in Illinois.1 |
Marriage* | She married George Wilson Myers, son of James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, before 1 April 1935, date based on George & Laura showing identical residences on this date in the 1940 census. George's m1 Ada had died in 1932. The fact that George's occupation is railroad brakeman for four censuses in a row sealed the deal on this census enumeration.1 |
