My preliminary research suggests their children were Vesta Bybee Andereck (1896-1897), Dana Bybee Andereck (1898-1981, m1 Emma Taylor 1916, m2 Alice Arnold 1918, m3 Vera Goss 1921, m4 Blanche Fairbanks 1938), and Toghee Andereck (1901-1906).      Bertha's obit says they were married 29 Jun. The IN Marriages record says 28 Jun but that could have been the license date. Married 14 years with 3 born & 1 living in the 1910 census.5,6,1

Birth*	Vertol, son of William Henry "Harry" Vandegrift and Nora Myrtle Newell, was born on 14 March 1896 at near in Ness City, Ness Co., Kansas, a twin with Vernol.2,1
Census1900	William and Nora appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Center Twp., Ness Co., Kansas, enumerated 8 June 1900, as 46 yo farmer William H & 25 yo wife Nora M Vandegrift. Their son Nora Ellen and Vernol K. was listed as living with them.3
Census1910	Vertol appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Center Twp., Ness Co., Kansas in the household of his parents, William Henry "Harry" Vandegrift and Nora Myrtle Newell, as 14 yo son Vertal J Vandegrift.4
Milit-Service*	Vertol J. Vandegrift served with Battery B, 130th Field Artillery during WWI between 1917 and 1919. Vertol was widely reported to have had his leg blown off by same enemy shell which killed his brother Vernol. Clearly Vernol was not killed but it's unclear whether Vertol was wounded or not. The Ness City News article talks about his return from the war.5,6,7,8
BioNote*	Biography Note: King writes, "Vertol served in WWI in the same unit with his twin brother - Battalion B, 130 Field Artilery, 35th Division. Being reared on a cattle ranch, they first rode and broke many horses for the US Army at Fort Sill, Okla. before serving in France. After their return, both Vertol and Vernol lived together and later married and reared their families in the same household. Both were farmers-ranchers on land 10 miles from Ness City, Kan. before moving into town."1

Their children 8 yo Phyllis, 6 yo Harriett, 5 yo Herbert, 2 yo Liverta and 0.1 yo Donald Van De Greft were listed as living with them.12
Census1940	Vertol and Ressa appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Center Twp., Ness Co., Kansas, enumerated 3 April 1940, as 44 yo farmer Vertol J & 42 yo wife Ressa M Vandegrift. Their children 17 yo Phyllis R, 16 yo Harriett D, 15 yo Herbert R, 12 yo Loverta R, 10 yo Donald K and 7 yo Val E Vandegrift were listed as living with them. Vertol's brother Vernol and his family were also in the household, as 44 yo brother Vernol K, 37 yo sister-in-law Rena D, with nephews 15 yo Barry K, 14 yo Duane L, 10 yo Donald E and 4 yo William H Vandegrift.13
Marriage*	Their second marriage was to Mary Elizabeth Maguire on 18 October 1975 at Ness City, Ness Co., Kansas. Elizabeth was the widow of Anthony J. Pavlu with whom she had 4 children.14,1
Death*	Vertol died in February 1986 at age 89. Last residence on his SSDI record was Ness City.15,16
