M., son of William Mackey Jr. and Sina McCranie, was born on 11 November 1828.2

ResearchNote*

Research Note re a Mackey mess! On p. 143, in her listing of the children of John Calloway Mackey, she names James Allen Mackey, who married "Lucy Agnes Mackey, his cou. a dtr. of Riley Mackey, Neph. of John C. Mackey." John C. had only four brothers: Joseph, Jesse, M.R. and William F. The issue, if any, of Joseph, Jesse and William are covered elsewhere in the text leaving only M.R. as the possible "Riley Mackey". The only conclusion that fits, IF Doughtie is correct, then Lucy Agnes is M. Riley Mackey's daughter. But this makes no sense if he was born in 1828.      Doughtie also writes that M.R. probably married Anna who died 1867, and that Miles Riley Mackey (3112) was his son. Our evidence says that Miles Riley was son of William F. and that's how we'll leave things pending more research.3

Marriage*	Her second marriage was to John Milton Shepherd, son of Wiley B. Shepherd Jr. and Rebecca Collier Mackey, circa 1872, based on birthyear of first child listed in Doughtie. Issue included Julius Mark (1873-?), Laura Virginia (1875-?), William Milton (1880-c1950), and Josephine (1886-?).2
Death*	Elizabeth died on 9 May 1917 at age 66.1

Census1850	John appeared on the 1850 Federal Census Wilkinson Co., Georgia in the household of his parents, William Mackey Jr. and Sina McCranie, as 19 yo John Mackey.6
Marriage*	His first marriage was to Dorcas Underwood before 1858, date estimated from eldest child in the 1860 census. Submitter of his father's will added parenthetically that John married three women: namely, Dorcas Underwood, Sarah C. Scott and Julia Keene. Ancestry lists 8 issue: John M. (1865-?), William Newton (1858-?), Sarah E. (1859-1861), Benjamin (1860-1867), Nancy E. (1862-1863), Ellen (1867-1908, m. James Robert Faircloth and had 6 chileren), Minnie (1869-1870), and Emma Mackey (1871-?).2,7,1
Census1860*	John and Dorcas appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Bloodworth Dist., Wilkinson Co., Georgia, enumerated 6 June 1860, as 28 yo farmer John C & 19 yo Dorcas Mackey. Their children William Newton and Sarah E. were listed as living with them.8
Milit-Service*	John Callaway Mackey served as a Private with Co. K, 57th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, the "Oconee Greys" during the Civil War enlisting 3 May 1862. He was discharged at Greensboro, North Carolina on 26 Apr 1865.9,2
Estate-Will	John was named an executor in the will of William Mackey Jr., his father, dated 18 March 1870 at Wilkinson Co., Georgia, receiving nothing having already received property and other consideration.1,10
