Marriage*He married Emma Jane "Emmy" Hanna on 1 December 1869 in Fairfield Co., Ohio. My preliminary research suggests their children were Josephine Hummell (1873- ), George Washington Hummell (1875-1934, m. Kathryn Carrie Seyfang 1910), and Bessie M Hummell (1892-1900).5,4
ResearchNote*Research Note of 31 July 2023 re 1870 census. It seems unlikely the 18 yo farm laborer Elias Hummel in the home of Louis Friebely in Bloom, Fairfield, Ohio, is this person based on fact he was married the previous year.6

Census1880Elias appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, as second head of family 28 yo farmer Elias Hummell in the household of his parents John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand; as 51 yo farmer John & 50 yo wife Susannah Hummell.7

Birth*William, son of John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand, was born on 17 May 1857 in Fairfield Co., Ohio.3,1
Census1860William appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Liberty Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio in the household of his parents, John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand, as 3 yo Wm H Hummell.1
Census1870William appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Greenfield Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio in the household of his parents, John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand, as 13 yo William H Hummell.4
Marriage*He married Mary Jane "Mollie" Ebert on 10 November 1877 in Franklin Co., Ohio. My preliminary research suggests their children were Betty Viola Hummel (1878-1945, m. James Peter Shively 1897), Sarah Ellen "Sadie" Hummel (1880-1934, m1 Leander Spears 1901, m2 Oliver Runyan 1916), Velva Leona Hummel (1884-1957, m1 Reggie Gonyer 1907, m2 Calvin Stauffer 1914, m3 Harvey Gratz), Chancy Theodore Hummel (1887-, mia in 1900 census, his headstone (Find A Grave 245085264) says he served with Co. A, 6th US Cavalry; Soldier Grave Registrations says he died at sea on the way to the Philippines), Lottie Arvilla Hummel (1893-1894) and Cpl. Cecil James Hummel (1896-1951).5,6
Census1880*William and Mary appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Etna Twp., Licking Co., Ohio, enumerated 7 June 1880, as 23 yo farm worker William & 25 yo daughter-in-law [sic] Mary Hummel. Their 1 yo daughter Bettie V Hummel was listed as living with them (as granddaughter!).
John Ebert, 53 yo farmer, his 35 yo wife Eliza, and family live next door above. I speculate this is Mary Jane's father and an m2 wife.7
Census1900*William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, enumerated 1 June 1900, as 42 yo widower brickyard laborer William Hummel. His children 16 yo Delva (as indexed and that's what it seems to say) L & 3 yo Cecil J Hummel were listed as living with him.
It's odd that both Velva and Cecil show mother born Germany. There's no doubt Mary J Ebert was born Ohio. This might give credence to FamilySearch Trees's claim of other wives, but both children were born before Mary J died and there's no evidence of a divorce or any other marriages by William. Also there's a birth record for Velva listing her mother as Mollie J Ebert.8
Census1900William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, as a neighbor of his brother-in-law & sister John Ebert and Mary Elizabeth "Annie" Hummell.9
Death*William died on 22 May 1930 at County Home in Liberty Twp., Hancock Co., Ohio, at age 73, of nephritis interstitial. Find A Grave claims 23 May but his death certificate clearly says 22 May.10,3
Burial*He was buried on 25 May 1930 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio. Find A Grave provides headstone photo.10,3
ResearchNote*Research Note of 1 August 2023 re FSTrees. The Robin Davison tree at FamilySearch claims three additional wives but provides not a shred of evidence in support of any of them. According to Davison they were Mary Lnu Hummel, Mary Jane Lnu Hummel and Fnu Lnu. The first two are likely due to perverse spellings of his actual m1 Mary Jane "Mollie" Ebert. The third, Fnu Lnu, is anyone's guess.

Last Edited26 Apr 2024
Birth*Millie, daughter of John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand, was born on 21 November 1864 in Fairfield Co., Ohio.4,1,5
Census1870Millie appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Greenfield Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio in the household of her parents, John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand, as 5 yo Millie L Hummell.2
Census1880Millie appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio in the household of her parents, John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand, as 15 yo daughter Nellie Hummel.6
Marriage*Her first marriage was to Richard F. Pressnell Jr. circa 1882, date based on birthyear of eldest child listed by Find A Grave. My preliminary research suggests their children were Ezra Pressnall (1882- , m. Nellie Stevens 1906), Fred Ward Pressnall (1889-1946, m. Mattie May Nutter 1912, m. Tillie M Faber 1918, m. Doy Tull 1921), Oliver Carl Pressnall (1893-1925, m. Helen M Delander 1917) and Charles Edward Pressnall (c1896- , m. Lottie Howe 1914).
Millie shows 4 born with 3 living in the 1900 census. That doesn't work given that Ezra was married in 1906 (the record lists parents Richard Pressnell & Millie HUmmell) and the other three boys, Fred, Oliver and Charles, show up in multiple censuses 1910 and later.
Richard's Find A Grave entry shows an m1 wife Phoebe Ann Hersey (1854-1876) with whom he had one child, infant Pressnell (1876-1876).7,8
Marr-Divorce*Millie was divorced from Richard F. Pressnell Jr. before 2 June 1900.9
Census1900*Millie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, enumerated 2 June 1900, as 35 yo divorcée Millie Pressnell. Her children 11 yo Fred W, 6 yo Oliver C and 4 yo Charles E Pressnell were listed as living with her.9
Marriage*Her second marriage was to Joseph G. Beckman on 12 August 1902 at Hancock Co., Ohio. My preliminary research suggests their only child was Lawrence H Beckman (1902-1961, m. Eloise Mae Gordon).10,5
Census1910*Millie and Joseph appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, enumerated 29 April 1910, as 44 yo retail meat market butcher Joseph G & 45 yo wife Mellie (or Nellie) Beckman. Their son 7 yo Lawrence H Beckman and Millie's chidren 20 yo Fred W Pressnell, 16 yo Oliver C Pressnell and 14 yo Charles E Pressnell were listed as living with them.11
Census1920Millie and Joseph appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, enumerated 3 January 1920, as 55 yo meat market butcher Joseph G & 55 yo wife Millie Beckman. Their 16 yo son Lawrence Beckman was listed as living with them, as well as 6 yo 'daughter' Leo and 5 yo 'son' Ralp Pressnell. These last two are actually grandchildren. 'Leo' is Millie's son Fred Ward Pressnell's daughter Leah Florence Pressnell. I'm not sure whose son Ralp(h) is, but likely also Fred's.12
Census1930Millie and Joseph appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, enumerated 8 April 1930, as 63 yo butcher shop butcher Joseph G & 65 yo wife Millie Beckman. Their 17 yo granddaughter Leah Pressnell and 16 yo grandson Ralph Pressnell were listed as living with them.13
Death*Millie died on 5 November 1939 at her home in Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, at age 74, of chronic heart disease and chronic nephritis.4,5,1
Burial*She was buried on 7 November 1939 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio. Find A Grave provides joint headstone photo with m2 Joseph Beckman.4,5,1

Richard F. Pressnell Jr.1,2,3

M, #10760, b. 28 June 1851, d. 27 September 1907
Last Edited4 Aug 2023
Birth*Richard was born on 28 June 1851 in England, s/o Richard Pressnell.1
Marriage*He married Millie Lucinda Hummell, daughter of John W. Hummell and Susannah Heistand, circa 1882, date based on birthyear of eldest child listed by Find A Grave.
Richard's Find A Grave entry shows an m1 wife Phoebe Ann Hersey (1854-1876) with whom he had one child, infant Pressnell (1876-1876).3,1
Marr-Divorce*Richard was divorced from Millie Lucinda Hummell before 2 June 1900.4
Death*Richard died on 27 September 1907 in Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio, at age 56.1
Burial*He was buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, Hancock Co., Ohio. Find A Grave provides no headstone photo.1
