F, #9937, b. May 1848
Birth* | Adelaide was born in May 1848 in Illinois. Her step-father was David P Daniel, b. 1819 in Pennsylvania.1 |
Marriage* | She married James Hanna Myers, son of Daniel Myers and Mary Wilson, between 1886 and 1900. Date range bracketed by James's m1 Minerva's death in 1886 and the 1900 census. The 1900 census shows them married 35 years with 4 born & 2 living. That makes no sense. FSTrees (James H Myers (1826–1905), ID no. LHTD-4SQ) claims they were married in 1886 but provides no source.1 |

Marriage* | He married Florence Virinda Myers, daughter of James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, on 13 April 1873 in Madison Co., Illinois. License no. 128 of 11 April. Robert's obit confirms 13 April. Find A Grave claims 12 April. The 1900 census confirms married 27 years with 5 born & 5 living. This 5-5 value begs the question, are the possible twins Lottie and Kittie in fact the same person. By the 1910 census they show married 37 years with 8 born and 5 living.7,2,5,6,8 |
Census1900* | Robert and Florence appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Staunton, Macoupin Co., Illinois, enumerated 22 June 1900, as 49 yo express agent Robert A & 48 yo wife Florence V Hoxsey. Hannah May "Hattie" Smith1,2
F, #9943, b. August 1846
Birth* | Hannah was born in August 1846 in England?. The 1900 census says she was born in Illinois. Her children's 1880 enumerations say their mother was born in England. Go figure.3,2 |
Marriage* | Their first marriage was to Thomas Louis Myers, son of James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, from 6 July 1870 to 21 March 1873. Hannah's 1900 census enumeration shows 5 born with 4 living. I can only account for two so suspect, especially given her age, that she had a prevous husband and three of the five were from that marriage.1,2 |
Marriage* | Her second marriage was to Joseph Harger between 1890 and 1891, date based on being married 9 years in the 1900 census.3 |
Census1900* | Hannah and Joseph appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, enumerated 14 June 1900, as 42 yo roofer Joseph & 54 yo wife Anna Harger. Their daughter Ada Lorena was listed as living with them.3 |

Charles E. Myers1
M, #9944, b. September 1871
Birth* | Charles, son of Thomas Louis Myers and Hannah May "Hattie" Smith, was born in September 1871 in Illinois.2,1 |
Census1880 | Charles appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Olive Twp., Madison Co., Illinois in the household of his parents, Thomas Louis Myers and Leandra Emeline Fyke, as 8 yo Charles E Myers.1 |
Marriage* | He married Laura Bell Ford between 1892 and 1893, date range based on married 7 years in the 1900 census. My preliminary research suggests their children were Hellen Myers (1895-1989, b. KS, m. Charles Spurgeon Short 1919), Lucille Myers (c1897-, b. KS) and Anna Josephine Myers (c1904-, b. MO). It's unclear whether Charles and Laura were divorced or simply separated. In 1920 he says married, she says divorced. In 1930 she says widowed and I can't find him.2 |
Census1900* | Charles and Laura appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Osawatomie, Miami Co., Kansas, enumerated 4 June 1900, as 28 yo railroad brakeman Charles E & 27 yo wife Ura Bell Myers. Their children 4 yo Helen and Mucile (Lucile) Myers were listed as living with them. One reason I'm confident this is the correct family is that Charles' parent's birthplaces are correctly shown as Illinois and England.2 |
Census1910 | Charles and Laura appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Oklahoma City Ward 1, Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma, enumerated 22 April 1910, as 39 yo railroad passenger conductor Charles E & 37 yo housekeeper wife Bell L Myers. Their children 14 yo Hellen, 11 yo Lucille and 5 yo Anna J Myers were listed as living with them, as well as 75 yo widowed father-in-law John B Ford. This census, too, shows Charles' mother's birthplace as England. His step-brother James Guy Myers and family, two sisters and step-mother Leandra Myers all live a few pages away.3 |
Census1920* | Charles appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Oklahoma City Ward 3, Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma, enumerated 24 January 1920, as 48 yo hotel lodger & oil broker Charles E Myers. Charles' listing calls him married though his wife's says they're divorced. Again his mother's birthplace is listed as England.4 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 12 June 2020 re 1910 census. On 07 May the Federal census of Dawson Co., Montana, listed two families on the same page which I considered likely to be half-brothers Charles E & Guy Myers. In that enumeration Guy is 32 yo, born IL with both parents born IL, married 2 years to 20 yo Mary. No children. This matched, or at least didn't contradict, known facts when discovered. Charles E Myers, two doors below, is 27 yo, Illinois x3, married 2 years to 20 yo Jessie. They had one daughter, 0.4 yo Stella, born ND. There are two apparent mistakes here. One is that Charles should be 37-38 yo. The other is that his mother was born in England, not Illinois. The discovery of the 1910 enumeration for most of the family in Oklahoma City put a knife into this possibility.5 |

James Guy Myers1,2
M, #9946, b. 30 December 1882, d. 1944
Birth* | James, son of Thomas Louis Myers and Leandra Emeline Fyke, was born on 30 December 1882 in Central City, Marion Co., Illinois. The 1895 KS Census suggests 1881-1882. Date & location I'm using are from a WWII draft card.3,2,4 |
CensusNF1 | James appeared on the 1895 Kansas State Census of Fort Scott, Bourbon Co., Kansas, in the household of his parents, Thomas Louis Myers and Leandra Emeline Fyke, as 13 yo Guy Myers.2 |
Marriage* | He married Estella "Stella" Heiple between 1904 and 1905, date based on 5 years married in the 1910 census. My preliminary research suggests their children were Irene Myers (c1905-, m. Fnu Parent, widow by 1930), Hazel Gertrude Myers (1907-2000) and Thomas W Myers (c1916- ).1 |
Census1910* | James appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma, enumerated 19 April 1910, as 28 yo railroad brakeman James G & 29 yo wife Stella Myers. Their children 4 yo Irene & 2 yo Hazel Myers were listed as living with them. Also in the home were James' mother 58 yo divorced Emeline E Myers and his sisters 16 yo Ethel B Myers & 37 yo widow Ada L McLean or McLeon.1 |
Census1930* | James and Estella appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Hurst, Williamson Co., Illinois, enumerated 10 April 1930, as 47 yo steam railroad switchman James G & 49 yo wife Estalla Myers. Their children 14 yo Thomas W Myers and 24 yo widow Irene Parent were listed as living with them, as well as Irene's 4.2 yo son James W Parent.5 |
Census1940 | James and Estella appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Hurst, Williamson Co., Illinois, enumerated 6 April 1940, as 58 yo switchman James G & 59 yo wife Estella Myers. Their 34 yo widowed daughter Irene Parent was listed as living with them, as well as Irene's 14 yo son James W Parent.6 |
Residence* | James resided in Hurst, Williamson Co., Illinois, in 1942. James was employed by the MO Pacific Railroad which fits well with his census records. He listed Irene Parent of Hurst as the 'person who will always know your address' rather than his wife. Odd.3 |
Death* | James died in 1944.4 |
Burial* | He was buried at Elkville Cemetery in Elkville, Jackson Co., Illinois. Joint headstone photo is available at Find A Grave. Note James' mother Leandra is in the same cemetery.4 |
The discovery of the 1910 enumeration for most of the family in Oklahoma City put a knife into this possibility.7 |

Laura Bell Ford1
F, #9952, b. September 1872
Birth* | Laura was born in September 1872 in Tennessee, d/o John B Ford.2,1 |
Marriage* | She married Charles E. Myers, son of Thomas Louis Myers and Hannah May "Hattie" Smith, between 1892 and 1893, date range based on married 7 years in the 1900 census. In 1930 she says widowed and I can't find him.1 |
Census1900* | Laura and Charles appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Osawatomie, Miami Co., Kansas, enumerated 4 June 1900, as 28 yo railroad brakeman Charles E & 27 yo wife Ura Bell Myers. Their children 4 yo Helen and Mucile (Lucile) Myers were listed as living with them. One reason I'm confident this is the correct family is that Charles' parent's birthplaces are correctly shown as Illinois and England.1 |
Census1910 | Laura and Charles appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Oklahoma City Ward 1, Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma, enumerated 22 April 1910, as 39 yo railroad passenger conductor Charles E & 37 yo housekeeper wife Bell L Myers. Their children 14 yo Hellen, 11 yo Lucille and 5 yo Anna J Myers were listed as living with them, as well as 75 yo widowed father-in-law John B Ford. This census, too, shows Charles' mother's birthplace as England. His step-brother James Guy Myers and family, two sisters and step-mother Leandra Myers all live a few pages away.2 |
Census1920* | Laura appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Oklahoma City Ward 3, Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma, enumerated 8 January 1920, as 46 yo divorced Bell Myers. Her daughters 21 yo Locile Myers, 15 yo Anna Josephine Myers, and 24 yo Helen Short were listed as living with her, as well as Helen's husband 31 yo Charles Short, as son-in-law.3 |
Census1930 | Laura appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Newkirk, Kay Co., Oklahoma, as 57 yo widowed mother-in-law L Belle Myers in the household of her son-in-law 42 yo auto agency manager Charles S Short and his wife, Belle's daughter, 34 yo Helen Short.4 |

Thomas Allen Hoxsey1,2,3
M, #9958, b. 30 March 1874, d. 1943
Birth* | Thomas, son of Robert Alex Hoxsey and Florence Virinda Myers, was born on 30 March 1874 in Illinois.1,2 |
Census1900 | Thomas appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Staunton, Macoupin Co., Illinois in the household of his parents, Robert Alex Hoxsey and Florence Virinda Myers, as 26 yo son Thomas A Hoxsey.2 |
Occupation* | Thomas was a cab driver living at Hotel Emery in 1903 at Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington.4 |
Residence* | Thomas resided in Spangle, Spokane Co., Washington, on 19 March 1917.3 |
Marriage* | He married Bertha Louise Fletcher on 11 July 1917 in Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington. This is the 2nd marriage for both Thomas & Bertha. He is widower. She was divorced from her m1 Wheeler. FSTrees claims without citation that Thomas's m1's name was Mary Isabelle Hollingsworth. I can find no evidence for this marriage.5 |
Move* | Thomas moved his residence from Spokane to Portland, Oregon between 1920 and 1924, Other Portland voting registrations confirm he stayed in Portland 1932-1942.6 |
Census1920* | Thomas and Bertha appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Spokane, Spokane Co., Washington, enumerated 3 January 1920, as 45 yo plow company laborer Thomas A & 29 yo wife Bertha Hoxsey. Their children (step-daughters to Thomas) 8 yo Francis Maurine & 6 yo Helen Louese Wheeler were listed as living with them, as well as one roomer.7 |
Marr-Divorce* | Thomas was divorced from Bertha Louise Fletcher from 3 January 1920 to 11 June 1924. Thomas & Bertha were together in Spokane on the earlier date. He's in Portland on the latter. I find no voter registration in Portland for Bertha so conclude 1924 is a safe late year for the divorce. Thomas is specifically divorced in the 1930 census.7,6 |
Census1930 | Thomas appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, as 56 yo divorced railroad warehouse trucker Thomas Hoxsey in the household of 60 yo widow Laura O'Connor.8 |
Census1940 | Thomas appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, enumerated 4 April 1940, as 66 yo widower telegraph messenger Thomas A Hoxsey. Ellen Kennedy, 75 yo single female born Northern Ireland, was living at the same address, though she has a separate visitation number.9 |
Death* | Thomas died in 1943.10 |
Burial* | He was buried at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Warren, Columbia Co., Oregon.10 |
