Milit-Service*	Col. Marvil G. Armstrong served as Colonel with US Army from 14 June 1913 to 31 July 1953. The 14 June date is when he entered West Point. The 31 July date was his retirement from service. His service number was 05313. From 1913 to 1917 he was at West Point, graduating 115th in his class. When he graduated he promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps. On 15 May 1917 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant, again with the Coast Artillery Corps. In August 1917 he was promoted temporary Captain of the CAC. He served with Coast Defenses of Pensacola before leaving for France in July 1918. He returned from France and served with the Coast Defenses of San Francisco. His West Point entry ends at this point.7,8

My preliminary research suggests their children were Helen May, Charles Harman, Mary Elizabeth, George Wesley, Iva Groves, Mary Jane, and Kathryn Wollaston. This matches well with Charles's obit which state his seven chldren survived him.5,6,3,2

Marriage*	His first marriage was to Amanda "Jennie" Durrell between 1856 and 1857, date inferred from their 3 yo daughter Mary in the 1860 census. This marriage is a bit of a long shot but Ben's name is perfect, his daughter Mary is spot on (based on later censuses) though the age is a bit off. His occupation in the 1860 of M.E. minister clinched it for me.5

Their children 17 yo Leighton S and 15 yo Miriam M Palmer were listed as living with them, as well as Emma's half-brother 40 yo public school supervisor William P String.9

Census1930	Emma and Alfred appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Allentown, Monmouth Co., New Jersey, enumerated 25 April 1930, as 67 yo truck farmer Alfred C & 67 yo wife Emma M Palmer. Emma's half-brother 60 yo William P String was listed as living with them as brother-in-law.11
