The 1900 census shows them married 23 years with 6 born and 6 living. Their six children were Cynthia (1877-1921, m. Wyman G Sink 1905, divorced soon thereafter, occ. attorney), Mary ( -a1899), Robert James ( -a1899, m. Lyda Abdon 1913), Elizabeth "Lizzie" ( -a1899, m. Glenn W North c1904), John Budd Jr. (1888-1911, d. of typhoid fever), and Thomas McAdams "Mack" Coles (m. Laura N Conners 1913).1,4,5,2

Their children 2 yo Cynthia and 0.9 yo Mary Coles were listed as living with them, as well a nephew and John's sister Hannah.3
Census1900	John and Fannie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Rising Sun, Ohio Co., Indiana, enumerated 13 June 1900, as 63 yo attorney John & 45 yo wife Fannie Cole. Their children 22 yo Sintha, 18 yo Robert, 16 yo Elizabeth, 11 yo John, and 9 yo Mack Cole were listed as living with them.2
Census1910	John and Fannie appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Rising Sun, Ohio Co., Indiana, enumerated 27 April 1910, as 73 yo lawyer John B & 55 yo wife Fanny A Coles. Their children 32 yo Cynthia, 28 yo Robert, 26 yo Elizabeth, 21 yo John B, and 18 yo Thomas M Coles were listed as living with them, as well as Elizabeth's 28 yo husband Glenn W North. Cynthia is marked married with 0 born, but no husband and her surname is still Coles.6
Death*	John died between 1910 and 1920, based on Fanny being a widow in the 1920 census.7

Josephine Gallenstein), James William (1888-1975, m1 Nellie Jackson 1907, m2 Hester M Savage 1910, m3 Jeanette Powell 1921, m4 Leora E Barrow 1922), and Sarah McCracken (1891-1951, m. Marriage*	Her second marriage was to Zadock West between 1898 and 1900. Date based on two censuses: in the 1900 they were married 1 year, in the 1910 their 10 yo son Zadock West is living with Nancy Jane and her m3 Isaack Evans.9,10
Census1900*	Nancy and Zadock appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Lawrenceburg Twp., Dearborn Co., Indiana, enumerated 17 June 1900, as 39 yo farm laborer Zadock & 38 yo wife Nancy West. Their step-children 19 yo Frank Evans, 16 yo Ada McCracken, and 10 yo Sarah McCracken were listed as living with them. Frank must be one of Isaac's kids from a prior marriage as he's too old to have been Nancy's son.9

ResearchNote*	Research Note of 4 May 2021 re which George Ake? There are at least three men named George Ake in Indiana in this time period. There is one document which identifies our George - his death certificate. It shows his parents as John Ake & Mary McAdams. That's a lock. It provides birth and death dates, and his cemetery name. George is a widower but his deceased wife's name is not shown. Our George's Find A Grave memorial number is 193070143. Neither the death certificate nor Find A Grave show a middle initial or name.      A different man is George Washington Ake (1866-1921), Find A Grave memorial no. 64717797, who m. Hattie McMurray.      Yet another is George Washington Ake (1865-1932), Find A Grave memorial no. 21066770, m. Anna Glenn. Note his lifespan is identical to our George.

ResearchNote	Research Note of 4 May 2021 re George Ake's wife. Recall that George's death certificate says he was a widower. It wasn't uncommon for divorced persons to claim being widowed but until proven otherwise let's assume this is true.      Women under consideration include, 1) Sophia Lnu. The couple shows up in the 1900 census in Pike, Ohio, IN. Ages are good. George's father's birthstate of Maryland is correct. 2) Kate Grastie, m. George W Ake in 1885 in Indiana. No add'l info in the marriage record. 3) Zilpha C Garrett, m. George W Ake in 1896 in Indiana. No add'l info in the marriage record. 4) Mary Anne "Annie" Glenn.      Women who are probably or definitely NOT include, 1) Hattie Miles, Hattie Mae McMurray, m. George W Ake in 1891 in Indiana as Miles. No other info in the marriage record. Son Dilver's death certificate shows his mother's maiden name as Miles. Good census records 1900 thru 1940 which unfortunately never tie into any siblings. Hattie's Find A Grave memorial (64717812) says she was d/o Hiram McMurray and that her husband George W Ake died in 1921. Whichever surname is correct this is not our person. 2) Mavie R McMakin. FSTrees (ID no. L95V-F54) claims his wife was Mavie R McMakin but provides no source, date, or location. George & Mavie are easily found in the 1900 and 1910 censuses at Hamilton, OH, and Ripley, IN respectively. Their kids were George M, Anna L, Mary E, and Harry M, with perhaps others. The bug with Mavie is her Find A Grave memorial (1867-1939, no. 43306820, with headstone photo). Mavie could not have pre-deceased George. It's also odd that her headstone reads 'Mother'. Typically there's a 'Father' in the vicinity. George is buried in a different state. 3) Serelda Hewitt., m. George W Ake in 1907 in Ohio County. That George was the son of Leven J Ake & Hannah Britton. Reject.
Death*	George died on 2 December 1932 in Highland Twp., Franklin Co., Indiana, at age 67, of chronic colitis & prostatitis.3,4

It shows a birth year of 1866 which is 10 years too early. No headstone. No death date. Looks like someone was guessing. It does correctly have a link to son Clayton.2,3

Marriage*	She married John Hines Evans, son of Thomas A. Evans and Nancy McAdams, on 23 April 1872 in Johnson Co., Iowa. Elizabeth had previously married Aaron Anderson and had daughter Gertrude Anderson ca. 1880.1,2
Census1880*	Mary and John appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Jefferson Twp., Johnson Co., Missouri, enumerated circa 14 June 1880, as 28 yo farmer John H & 33 yo wife Mary E Evans. Their 14 yo daughter Gertrude M Evans was listed as living with them. Gertrude was Mary's daughter from prior marriage to Aaron Anderson.3,4

Birth*	Meta was born before 1911 in Decatur, Macon Co., Illinois, d/o Charles H Hawks & Elizabeth Addington. Her age on the marriage record is simply 'legal'.1
Marriage*	She married Isaac Alexander Evans, son of Thomas A. Evans and Nancy McAdams, on 4 December 1929 in Iowa City, Johnson Co., Iowa. The marriage record confirms this was Meta's 2nd marriage. It also says it was Isaac's 2nd. I believe it was indeed his 2nd wife, but his 3rd marriage. Meta's prior marriage was to Fnu Gifford by whom she had three children, Elmer, Grace, and Meta M Gifford.1
Census1930*	Meta and Isaac appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Iowa City, Johnson Co., Iowa, enumerated 21 April 1930, as 69 yo Children's Hospital janitor Isaac A & 53 yo wife Metta Evans. Their step-children 14 yo Elmer, 12 yo Grace, and 9 yo Metta M Gifford were listed as living with them, all children of Metta's prior marriage.2

Census1870*	Marina and Walter appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Big Grove Twp., Johnson Co., Iowa, enumerated 31 August 1870, as 30 yo farmer Walter & 20 yo wife Elizabeth McAdams. Their son James Albert was listed as living with them.5
Census1910	Marina and Walter appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Mount Carmel, Crawford Co., Kansas, at Hospital for Sick and Injured, enumerated 25 April 1910, as 73 yo retired farmer Walter & 60 yo wife Mereno (as indexed) E McAdams. Their children Ellis Franklin and Susan Jessie were listed as living with them. Susan's children 3 yo Paul B and 0.5 yo Major Ham were also living with them as grandson and granddaughter.4
