Catherine Belle Bortel1,2
F, #10866, b. 21 July 1882, d. 1 February 1952
Birth* | Catherine, daughter of Raymond R. Bortel and Lydia Ann Andrix, was born on 21 July 1882 in Washington Twp., Henry Co., Ohio. The 1900 census says Aug 1882. Her birth record says 21 Jul 1882. Find A Grave says 29 Aug 1882 though the headstone shows only the year.4,2,1 |
Marriage* | Her first marriage was to Fnu Spangler before 12 June 1900. Date based on Catherine having surname Spangler, marked married, in the 1900 census of this date.5 |
Census1900 | Catherine appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Henry Co., Ohio in the household of her parents, Raymond R. Bortel and Lydia Ann Andrix, as 17 yo married daughter Cathrine Spangler.2 |

Burial* | She was buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Los Angeles Co., California.1 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 8 February 2024 re census record. A challenge as currently indexed. In 1910 Catherine is with her sister Mae, claiming widowed, which may be true. I find no Find A Grave memorial for Michael Owen Blue, her husband just before the 1910 census. In 1920 I find a 36 yo Catherine as lodger in Los Angeles. It's likely this is our woman. In 1930 I find a divorced William Montague in Los Angeles but no sign of Catherine. The 1940 census is a complete bust. In the 1950 I find a 67 yo Catherine as a lodger in Los Angeles who may be this person. |

Addis Mae "Ada" Bortel1,2,3
F, #10867, b. from 7 October 1888 to 8 January 1889, d. 13 April 1930
Birth* | Addis, daughter of Raymond R. Bortel and Lydia Ann Andrix, was born from 7 October 1888 to 8 January 1889 in Texas, Henry Co., Ohio. The 1900 census shows Dec 1888 for a birthdate. One record at Ohio, County Births, 1841-2003 says 07 Dec 1888, the other 08 Jan 1889. Her marriage record says 07 Oct 1888. Find A Grave says 08 Dec 1888. Her middle name is Mary in one record, May in most, Mae in her Find A Grave memorial.2,6,7 |
Census1900 | Addis appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Henry Co., Ohio in the household of her parents, Raymond R. Bortel and Lydia Ann Andrix, as 11 yo daughter Ada M Bartell.3 |
Marriage* | Her first marriage was to Carl Michael Reinbolt on 17 October 1906 at Henry Co., Ohio.8 |

Marr-Divorce* | Addis was divorced from Carl Michael Reinbolt from 20 April 1910 to 23 July 1918. Date based on they are together in the 1910 census and Mae m2 Snead in 1918. However some evidence suggests Carl m2 Josephine M Nieset in 1909 which makes no sense considering the census enumeration.10,7 |
Marriage* | Her second marriage was to Earl William Snead on 23 July 1918 at Clark Co., Ohio. This was Earl's m2 also. His previous wife was Shirley Alethea Stewart. My preliminary research suggests their children were Thelma Snead (c1906- ) and Ruby Snead (c1911- ).11,12,13 |
Census1920* | Addis and Earl appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, enumerated 12 January 1920, as 43 yo butcher Earl W & 31 yo wife Mae Snead. Earl's children 14 yo Thelma and 9 yo Ruby Snead were listed as living with them.14 |

Death* | Addis died on 13 April 1930 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, of general septicemia.16,7 |
Burial* | She was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale) in Glendale, Los Angeles Co., California. Find A Grave provides no headstone photo.7 |

M, #10873, b. from 21 September 1884 to 4 November 1888, d. 2 March 1975
Birth* | Carl was born from 21 September 1884 to 4 November 1888 in Ohio, s/o George W Reinbolt & Alta L Simmons. His marriage record with May Bortel gives a date of 21 Sep 1884. His Find A Grave memorial says 04 Nov 1888 but provides no headstone for corroboration. Birthplace is Henry Co. per marriage record, but Millersville, Sandusky per Find A Grave. The Bowsher/Addison/Marsh tree at Ancestry claims his middle name was Marion.1,2 |
Marriage* | He married Addis Mae "Ada" Bortel, daughter of Raymond R. Bortel and Lydia Ann Andrix, on 17 October 1906 in Henry Co., Ohio.1 |
Census1910* | Carl and Addis appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Napoleon Village, Henry Co., Ohio, enumerated 20 April 1910, as 25 yo foundry moulder Karl & 21 yo wife May Rheinholt.3 |
Marr-Divorce* | Carl was divorced from Addis Mae "Ada" Bortel from 20 April 1910 to 23 July 1918. Date based on they are together in the 1910 census and Mae m2 Snead in 1918. However some evidence suggests Carl m2 Josephine M Nieset in 1909 which makes no sense considering the census enumeration.2,4 |
Death* | Carl died on 2 March 1975 in Fremont, Sandusky Co., Ohio.1 |
Burial* | He was buried at Saint Lawrence Cemetery in Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., Ohio. Find A Grave provides no headstone photo but does have a portrait photo.1 |
