The 1900 census of 12 June shows them married 6 months, say December 1899. The 1910 census confirms married 10 years and 2 born & 2 living.8,6 |
Census1900 | Loree and Laura appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Washington, Daviess Co., Indiana, enumerated 12 June 1900, as 27 yo dentist L E & 27 yo wife May Vanosdol.9 |

Death* | Loree died on 7 September 1937 in Peru, Miami Co., Indiana, at age 65, of a heart attack. I'm using the date on his death certificate. The newspaper articles all say 08 Sep. He was mentioned as a surviving brother in Dr. John W Vanosdol's obit of 24 Mar 1936. The Star Press obit inexplicably names his widow as Sophia. I find no evidence for that. His mother was a Sophia however.14,1,2,3 |

Albert Patrick1
M, #7824, d. before 7 June 1900?
Marriage* | He married Glendora Downey, daughter of Horace A. Downey and Hattie Sarah Gillingham, on 1 June 1896 in Shelby Co., Indiana.1 |
Death* | Albert died before 7 June 1900?. This date based on Glendora showing widowed and living with her parents in the 1900 census of this date. It's not uncommon for people of either gender to claim being widowed when in fact they were divorced, so this date is rather iffy.2 |

Ella Cyclonia Downey1

Birth* | Ella, daughter of Horace A. Downey and Hattie Sarah Gillingham, was born on 18 August 1886 in Indiana. Re year, Find A Grave & SS Apps agree on 1886 but it's 1888 according to Indiana Marriages 1811-2007. Re where she was born, the marriage record says Knightstown. SS Apps says Columbus, but in parentheses is written Connersville.3,4,1 |
Census1900 | Ella appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Rushville, Rush Co., Indiana, as 14 yo sisiter-in-law Ella Downey in the household of Leonidas Leroy "Lon" Kennedy and Leora A. Downey; as 23 yo grocery clerk (unreadable) & 24 yo wife Leora Kennedy.5 |

Marriage* | Her second marriage was to Ellis Hovey Downey on 27 February 1916 at Rushville, Rush Co., Indiana. My preliminary research suggests their children were Vance Dwight (1905-1964, m. Leora Frances Hinkle 1938 in Indiana), and James Henry Downey (c1920- ). It's odd that James shows up in the 1940 census but not in the 1930. Bride specifically shown as daughter of Horace Downey & Hattie Gillingham in the marriage record.1,6 |
Census1920 | Ella and Ellis appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Posey Twp., Rush Co., Indiana, enumerated 2 January 1920, as 28 yo farm laborer Ellis H & 32 yo wife Ella C Downey. Their 14 yo son Vance D Downey was listed as living with them.7 |

Residence | Ella resided on 16 October 1968, being mentioned as a surviving sister in Harland's obit of this date.10 |

Leora A. Downey1,2
F, #7829, b. February 1876
Birth* | Leora, daughter of Horace A. Downey and Hattie Sarah Gillingham, was born in February 1876 in Indiana.3 |
Census1880 | Leora appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Village of Hartford, Ohio Co., Indiana in the household of her parents, Horace A. Downey and Hattie Sarah Gillingham, as 5 yo daughter Leora Downey.2 |
Marriage* | She married Leonidas Leroy "Lon" Kennedy on 26 January 1898 in Rushville, Rush Co., Indiana. License dated 25 Jan, return dated 22 Mar 1898. The 1900 & 1910 censuses confirm married 2 & 12 years respectively with 1 born & 1 living in both. My preliminary research suggests their only child was Weldon Leonidas Kennedy (1900-1930, m. Ruth Helen Bennett 1927 in Los Angeles).4,5,6,7 |
Census1900 | Leora and Leonidas appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Rushville, Rush Co., Indiana, enumerated 12 June 1900, as 23 yo grocery clerk (unreadable) & 24 yo wife Leora Kennedy, Their 0.1 yo son Weldon Kennedy was listed as living with them, as well as Leora's 14 yo sister Ella Downey.3 |
Census1910* | Leora and Leonidas appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Rushville, Rush Co., Indiana, enumerated 22 April 1910, as 33 yo mail carrier Alonzo & 34 yo wife Leora Kennedy, Their 10 yo son Weldon Kennedy was listed as living with them.7 |
Census1920 | Leora and Leonidas appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Rushville, Rush Co., Indiana, enumerated circa 12 January 1920, as 42 yo mail carrier Leonidas L & 43 yo wife Leora A Kennedy. Their 19 yo son Weldon L Kennedy was listed as living with them.1 |
Residence* | Leora resided in California in 1923.8 |
ResearchNote* | Research Note of 8 July 2021 re FamilySearch Trees claims. FamilySearch claims she died in Feb 1963 but provides no evidence. I can't find her at Find A Grave as of 03 Apr 2021, or anywhere else for that matter. There's a 54 yo divorced Leora B Kennedy in Los Angeles in the 1930 census but her birthstate and her father's are wrong. It's odd that Leonidas' obit makes no mention of her at all, suggesting a possible divorce. |
