Paralee Turner1

F, #7630, b. February 1882, d. 10 September 1954
FatherWilliam Oliver Turner1 b. 17 Jun 1855, d. 27 Jan 1953
MotherMary Dustin "Mollie" Allen1 b. 23 Sep 1857, d. 12 May 1935
Last Edited8 Apr 2023
Birth*Paralee, daughter of William Oliver Turner and Mary Dustin "Mollie" Allen, was born in February 1882 in Texas.2
Census1900Paralee appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 7, Coleman Co., Texas in the household of her parents, William Oliver Turner and Mary Dustin "Mollie" Allen, as 18 yo daughter Parseles Turner.2
Marriage*She married Sam Oscar "Red Oscar" Curry on 1 January 1904 in Brown Co., Texas. My preliminary research suggests their only child was Rita Ruth Curry (1905-1965, m1 Samuel Claude Curry and had issue Claude Allen & Sue Curry.
Paralee m2 Magnus Hansen, Sam m2 Vera L Graham.3
Census1910*Paralee and Sam appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Santa Anna, Coleman Co., Texas, enumerated 16 April 1910, as 35 yo hardware salesman Samuel O & 27 yo wife Paralee Curry. Their 6 yo daughter Rita was listed as living with them, as well as Paralee's 19 yo sister Ella M Turner. Ella is enumerated twice, here and again with her parents on 21 April in Brown County. Perhaps she really did move across the county line during that 4-day window.4
Census1920Paralee and Sam appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, enumerated 3 January 1920, as 44 yo bakery agent Sam A & 36 yo wife Puralee Curry. Their 14 yo daughter Rita was listed as living with them. Rita is marked as family 82 and HOH but obviously that is incorrect.5
Census1930Paralee and Sam appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, enumerated 8 April 1930, as 56 yo filling station proprietor Samuel O & 48 yo wife Paralee Curry.6
Marr-Separate*Paralee was separated from her husband, Sam Oscar "Red Oscar" Curry between 1930 and 1940. Separation inferred by, a) in the 1930 census they're married and together, b) in 1940 she's married but alone with two grandchildren and he's 'single', both living in Fort Worth.6,7
Census1940*Paralee appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, enumerated 9 April 1940, as 58 yo Paralee Curry. Two grandchildren were listed as living with her: namely, 17 yo Claude Allen and 15 yo Sue Curry. If they are in fact grandchildren then they must be daughter Rita's children by her first marriage to Samuel Claude Curry. These kids were with their mother and her second husband Magnus Hansen in Yreka, CA in 1930.7
Residence*Paralee resided in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, on 27 January 1953.8,9
Death*Paralee died on 10 September 1954 at her home in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, at age 72. She also married Fnu Curry. Is it same person who m. her sister Mary Ella?.10,1,11
DeathParalee was mentioned in the obituary of John Wesley Turner Sr., dated 12 September 1954, as a deceased sibling.10,12,13
Burial*She was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas. Headstone photo available at Find A Grave.11

Birth*Peter, son of William Oliver Turner and Mary Dustin "Mollie" Allen, was born on 17 January 1884 in Grayson Co., Texas. His middle name may be Henry or Harry.4,5
Census1900Peter appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 7, Coleman Co., Texas in the household of his parents, William Oliver Turner and Mary Dustin "Mollie" Allen, as 16 yo son Peter H Turner.5
Marriage*He married Helen Irene Johnson circa 1908. My preliminary research suggests their children were Capt. Russell Knight (1917-1993) and Joyce K Turner (c1922- ). Married 22 years in the 1930 census.6,7,8
Census1910*Peter appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Santa Anna, Coleman Co., Texas, as 26 yo drug store stalesman boarder Peter H Turner in the household of Charles K & Belle E Hunter. His age is good with parents' birthstates correct as VA & OH.9
Residence*Peter and Helen resided at 528 N. 10th in Waco, McLennan Co., Texas, on 12 September 1918. His birthdate is right on. Occupation is drug clerk for W B Morrison Drug Co.8
Census1920*Peter and Helen appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Waco, McLennan Co., Texas, enumerated 12 January 1920, as 35 yo druggist Pete H & 25 yo wife Helen I Turner. Census1940Peter and Helen appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Abilene, Taylor Co., Texas, enumerated 19 April 1940, as 56 yo drug store clerk P H & 47 yo wife Alice Turner. I've found no evidence that Peter's m1 Helen died between 1930 and 1940, nor that he remarried, so the reason Helen is enumerated as Alice in this enumeration is unknown.11
ResidencePeter resided at 2102 Sayles Blvd. in Abilene, Taylor Co., Texas, in 1942. Mrs. P H Turner, same address, was listed as next of kin.4
Residence*Peter resided in Santa Rosa, Guadalupe Co., New Mexico, on 27 January 1953.12,13

Death*Peter died on 24 October 1968 in Coleman Co., Texas, at age 84. Reed says he died in San Angelo but TX Deaths claims Coleman County. Birth*Samuel, son of William Oliver Turner and Mary Dustin "Mollie" Allen, was born on 4 February 1886 in Santa Anna, Coleman Co., Texas. Find A Grave shows Washington Co., Texas as birthplace on his main entry page, but Santa Anna on the included death certificate. His son Sam Jr. was informant. This TX Deaths record shows 14 Feb 1885, same location. His WWI & WWII draft registrations confirm this date.1,4,5,6
Census1900Samuel appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Justice Pct. 7, Coleman Co., Texas in the household of his parents, William Oliver Turner and Mary Dustin "Mollie" Allen, as 14 yo son Sam O Turner.7
Census1910*Samuel appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Comanche, Comanche Co., Texas, as 24 yo boarder Sam Turner in the household of Mrs. J. W. Ruse. His age is good. Parental birthstates of VA and OH are correct. Sam is a tailor in his own shop.8
Marriage*He married Marie Harris on 11 June 1914 in Williamson Co., Texas. My preliminary research suggests their children were
Samuel Oliver "Sambo" Jr (c1915- ) and Marie Frances Turner (c1919- ).
Find A Grave and the Lyn Blair tree at Ancestry show another child named Lillie Mae Cornell (1907-1996). She's not in the 1910 or 1920 census with her parents and I've found no other evidence for this relationship.9,1
Residence*Samuel and Marie resided in Bruceville, McLennan Co., Texas, on 12 September 1918.4

Death*Samuel died on 26 April 1952 in Waco, McLennan Co., Texas, at age 66. Reed claims death in Carlton, Hamilton Co., Texas as does Sam's father's obit. His death certificate shows that place as his usual residence. There's a second record at FamilySearch for a Sam Oliver Turner, son of Will Turner, showing birthdate of 4 Feb 1886 in Salem, TX (there are four), and death matching what I have here.6,1,2,13

Sam Oscar "Red Oscar" Curry1,2

M, #7646, b. 18 January 1875, d. 26 November 1949
Last Edited8 Apr 2023
Birth*Sam was born on 18 January 1875 in Ellis Co., Texas.1
Marriage*He married Paralee Turner, daughter of William Oliver Turner and Mary Dustin "Mollie" Allen, on 1 January 1904 in Brown Co., Texas. My preliminary research suggests their only child was Rita Ruth Curry (1905-1965, m1 Samuel Claude Curry and had issue Claude Allen & Sue Curry.
Paralee m2 Magnus Hansen, Sam m2 Vera L Graham.2
Census1910*Sam and Paralee appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Santa Anna, Coleman Co., Texas, enumerated 16 April 1910, as 35 yo hardware salesman Samuel O & 27 yo wife Paralee Curry. Their 6 yo daughter Rita was listed as living with them, as well as Paralee's 19 yo sister Ella M Turner. Ella is enumerated twice, here and again with her parents on 21 April in Brown County. Perhaps she really did move across the county line during that 4-day window.3
Census1920Sam and Paralee appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, enumerated 3 January 1920, as 44 yo bakery agent Sam A & 36 yo wife Puralee Curry. Their 14 yo daughter Rita was listed as living with them. Rita is marked as family 82 and HOH but obviously that is incorrect.4
Census1930Sam and Paralee appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, enumerated 8 April 1930, as 56 yo filling station proprietor Samuel O & 48 yo wife Paralee Curry.5
Marr-Separate*Sam was separated from his wife, Paralee Turner between 1930 and 1940. Separation inferred by, a) in the 1930 census they're married and together, b) in 1940 she's married but alone with two grandchildren and he's 'single', both living in Fort Worth.5,6
Death*Sam died on 26 November 1949 in Brownwood, Brown Co., Texas, at age 74.1
Burial*He was buried at Salem Cemetery in Bangs, Brown Co., Texas. Headstone photo & death certificate available at Find A Grave. One child shown is Rita Ruth Curry Hatchell.1
